Well after alot of thinking I decided to try play without mouse accerlacation and thus changing my DPI from 650 to 1600. I now have big issues with micro'ing good XD..

So is this how most pros play? Without mouseacc and high DPI?

I think 800 or 1000 dpi is the most common now when pretty much everyone is playing i 1920x1080.

Speaking about DPI..
I have an oldschool intellimouse 3.0 that doesn't have a DPI setting or anything like that, so I've never really understood DPI.

What's the difference between raising your sensitivity and raising the DPI setting of your mouse, pixel losses aside.

ah! you've been playing with mouse acceleration?! that's rough, I find most games unplayable with that turned on ><

there's no problem with mouse acceleration and mouse speed doesn't matter, just whatever you're used to. i think mouse acceleration might work differently across windows versions which would obviously cause a lot of issues if you go to many lans.

I play with 3500 dpi, and tbh I think that you get used to any dpi over time, and I am very happy with my dpi and where its at. Started off with 1800, but prefer 3500 now :D but yes I think lots play with pretty low dpi..just whatever works for you

I have 1600 since my mouse only knows 800/1600/3200/6000 and everything else is either way too slow or way to fast. maybe there's a possibility to manually set it to 1400 but I guess I would miss the awesome "1600 dpi" speech when clicking a button :D

it really depends on the size of the monitor. With my current settings I could never play on a friends 17" laptop for example.

everybody needs to test for him/herself I guess

use max dpi and LOWER SENSITIVITY - tldr; if you are using DPI to change your mouse speed you are doing it wrong.

DPI stands for "dots per inch". It's a ratio of how much you need to move the mouse physically to how much the cursor moves on screen. Higher DPS means less movement is needed to get the cursor to travel further. I don't think you can adjust DPI on most normal mice, Razers and Steelseries usually do though.

well, using dpi to change mousespeed is the only right way to do it naturally^^
windows 6/11, sc2 51, dpi how you want it. that's the correct way

Why is your tl;dr longer than your actual post?

So is this how most pros play? Without mouseacc and high DPI?

Whatever they like. Seriously, play what you are most comfortable with and then it's all fine. Just don't make it too slow.

I've noticed the best micro players use very low settings(400dpi), but I personally like higher.

I personally play with 6/11 windows, ~53% SC2 settings (The required 51-54% for no pixel skipping), and 5600 dpi. And it still feels slow to me But I don't want to lose precision for extra speed.

try working on a computer with 6000 dpi and you realise that you have to lower your dpi.

I play with 400 DPI and 50% sens. I move a lot, but it helps my precision. It is all up to the player. I use such low sens from FPS games.

In one of his dailies Day[9] talks about mouse DPI.
Here is the link.

Basically he said you should have a mouse capable of more then 2k DPI, but optimally you should use 2k. I guess sensibility is up to the user, though I am trying to get used to higher and higher sensitivity by increasing it slowly over time.

3k DPI in 1080p with G500
Why would lower DPI be any good -___________-
It's precise enough and let me do more stuff with less effort

Dots per inch (DPI) or CPI is the amount of movements your mouse reads per inch. When your CPI is low, you can notice your mouse skipping pixels because the amount of movements read within the inch is too small. However, if your DPI and polling rate are too high it can effect the performance of some mice. The deathadder v2 for example has issues on 3500 DPI and 1000hz polling rate but one 1800 DPI and 500hz polling rate its at its optimal settings

So it is best to have your mice on these optimal settings and then adjust your in game sensitivity instead.

In FPS, competitive users prefer higher sensitivity for a better reaction time (lower sense, more distance to move the mouse), and I am sure that would be prefferable here, aswell, but since micro needs ALOT of precision, you might take alot longer to get used to it.

If you think you are getting behind in your game because you lift your hand too often during a game, then try using more DPI, while maintaining the sense rating.

It took me a couple months after buying a gaming mouse to realize the point of having a high dpi mouse. The best way to demonstrate it would be try to write your name smoothly on Paint or something. Setting your mouse to the highest dpi with sensativity as low as you need to make it comfortable is the smoothest way to do it.

I use a Logitech Click! from 2005 and it works just fine at GM level. I can't even find its DPI anywhere.

Point is, you don't need a gaming equipment until you get to the pro level and you need to min/max everything about your play.

these kinds of things only actually matter in FPS games where precision is %100 of your game. In sc2? not so much, you can use whatever setting you feel comfortable with, don't get so caught up in sensitivity and DPI. You definitely do not want mouse acceleration though, you want CPL mouse fix which removes mouse accel. Even if you turn it off in windows there is still some accel and must be removed using registry editing, of course you don't do this yourself, just download the mouse fix and it will fix itself. BTW this fix is for windows XP, I'm not sure about windows vista or 7 in fact I don't even know if win7 needs it, but do some research on it.

This is coming from an ex-CAL-I and CEVO-P dod player who played FPS his whole life.

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/763i/CPLMouseFix.zip

double click the .reg to add it to the registry THEN restart your computer. You can also uninstall by doing the same method. GL HF.

This.

No they don't .
FPS players play with incredibly low sensitivity so they can be more precise with their aim.
In RTS it makes more sense to have as high sensitivity as you are comfortable with .

if you use other than 6/11 windows sensitivity you won't get a 1 : 1 ratio for mouse : pointer movement.
low dpi shouldn't matter too much unless you have a ridiculous resolution. so it's best to use what is good for u-

Most CS players use a low as hell sensitivity, and since it's the most competitive FPS out there, that's the standard.

I used to use 1800dpi on 6/11 windows speed, but I noticed that my mouse accuracy sufered from that, so now I use 400dpi and i'm having less problems with my mechanics now.

I think idra said he uses 500cpi, and a lot of pros use the mid end of dpi of around 1800dpi

Actually, you're doing it wrong and you're helping people pick terrible settings. 1:1 ratio is the best for consistency.

Anywhere between 0.5 inches to 2 inches distance vertically on your resolution. Which is generally 400-1000 dpi. Anyone with over 2000 is lost since we haven't evolved to the point of having 3000 pixel monitors on a regular consumer basis.

Brood war is a good example, 640x480 only and 400 dpi for every pro gamer (LMO) = 0.83 inches top to bottom of their monitor. No reason for them to upgrade mice and have it uncontrollable or some crappy windows setting.

In SC2, the G1 series is very popular in the GSL, which is 800 or 1000 dpi. Even at 1600x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080 it is about 1 inch top to bottom, maybe a little more. Bomber was using 800 on the mico. I wouldn't know about the slayers guys since it is changeable.

Among Korean pros, 800-1000 most common as they all pretty much use Logitech G1 or MiniOptical. The exceptions are the few that use a G9x (MVP, MKP, Byun, few others) and SlayerS (who all use Deathadders).

I stand corrected then. What I heard was that mid-tier players used low sens in order to get better accuracy, but to catch up to higher level players they started gradually increasing it in order to gain some reaction time.

Maybe CS isn't the best reaction time example to demonstrate this (maybe in Quake Live or UT it is more apparent), but it's definitely the most competitive, so I'll leave it at that.

I'm using two 2560x1600 screens and anything less than 3000 feels sluggish on desktop, let alone games.
