The press makes a big deal out of the whole birther bullshit because its far more exciting to read a newspaper article mentioning how there are a good number of high profile people who believe the President isn't constitutionally qualified compared to endless budget debates about a government deficit
And, for that matter, I believe the budget issue got far more attention in at the least the NY Times than the birth certificate crap

Ultimately, it doesn't matter. It's all been planned years in advance, and in the future they will openly and happily admit Obama wasn't an American citizen, because by then there will be a new and different administration and no one will ever be punished. It's like what Noam Chomsky says about 9/11 truth. Ultimately, it doesn't matter because nothing will change, even if the government admits it staged the attacks.
Drop a couple sound bytes for the corporate media, and the case is closed. No one will care, the out of control government will continue on its course for chaos.

I think this is just another manifestation of the racism that many people harbor. Obama shouldn't have had to jump through all these hoops, his damn birth certificate was posted on his web site but people demanded the long form. So he finally has it an people still won't believe it, the whole point is that is that there is no talking to there people. They are determined to think that Obama is not THEIR president because he is black. That is the same reason why they keep bringing up his middle name and accusing him of being a Muslim.
As if it would matter if Obama was a Muslim even though he is certainly not. A bunch of racist right wing morons cook up these conspiracy theories to demonize Obama and make a buck doing it from gullible fools who can't deal with the existence of a legitimate black president.

No man should weild so much power as the president of the US does. Power corrupts even the best of men. And think what it does to lesser men.
Hiring a leader for a country should be contucted like a job interview. Possible candidates should be presented based on previous records at leadership and diplomacy. Some sort of un-biased board needs to sort out a couple of candidates. The board consisting of academics from diffrent areas (like enviorment, social studies etc), corporate leaders representing the countries companies, union reps representing the working man, and other big groups in need of representation like elderly, youth, handicapped etc. Each member on the board must present good arguments for each candidate suggested to the public.
The public then gets to see the candidates do pre-planned interviews discussing real issues a leader would face, they would need to present their streanghts and weaknesses just like in a job interview. And some sort of big debates with all candidates.
No candidate or interest group is allowed to spend money on commercials trying to influence the public.
When each candidate has shown his previous records and credentials, suggestions for the future of the country. Then the public casts its vote
And ye i made this up in 5 min.
But the party system in most modern countries are so flawed. If you are not in one of the big parties ur almost screwed to get ur voice heard or get funding for election. Good ideas are minced out and left is the bland grey compromises.
