Have you seen the social network? If anything tech related is what you do for a livelihood, move to California and see godly results and endless success.

Parents here generally think video games are for lazy kids and think video games are just games. How would an American parent react if their son told them he wanted to become a pro gamer? The son would probably get laughed at and get zero support. Also, it isn't that glamorous to be a known WoW/Starcraft player here in So Cal. I would be crucified if my class mates knew I spend my spare time playing Starcraft. There could be some money in it of course, but I'm not sure how successful it would be. It might be successful with the hardcore crowd, but what about the casual crowd? you would be crucified if your classmates knew you spent spare time playing starcraft? what kind of strange school are you in? i think you might just being a bit self-conscious here. when i was in school, plenty of kids played games. i'm sure not much has changed in the last couple of years. it might not be glamorous but it's not something that would ruin your social life by itself - if it would, i imagine there wasn't too much to ruin in this hypothetical life! youre right about parents though but this will change in time.

It might be successful with the hardcore crowd, but what about the casual crowd? It obviously wasn't always like that in Korea, and I doubt there was that much better of an environment there. If progaming can overcome Asian parents, it can do anything. There's no magic in the Orient. ESPORTS just is.

No lol, they play xbox/playstation 3 ie modern warfare. They've never heard of starcraft, if they saw what it was, they'd probably like it. I think the problem is, no one knows what starcraft is in america.

EG asks their sponsor intel for money to make a SC2 league, and, since 5 MILLION DOLLARS isn't much for intel, a NA GSL is formed. California, being a HUGE center for gaming in the U.S. and the home of the creators of SC2, is chosen to be the location. The maps of this new GSL consist of the best Blizzard maps and the best ICCUP maps. Blizzard, not to be outmapped in their own country, hire more mapmakers and put the GSL NA maps on the ladder. Foreigners, being not even close to as cheesy as the Koreans, raise the metagame and popularity of SC2 to new heights. Videos are posted on youtube and soon subscribers surpass huskystarcraft. Soon stadiums are packed and TV channels are even being formed. NA becomes the new Korea and SC2 becomes more successful than SC1 ever was. Super special nerd dream: SC2 popularity draws more developers into PC gaming and consoles die off. Intel gets repaid for all it has invested. If I could predict the future and this would happen, I would be smiling my entire life.

When I run the 'add Facebook friends' thing on Battle.net, I get a list of all types of unlikely people with BNet accounts that use the same email as their facebook, let alone those who don't, and most of them are not a-typical nerds. Whilst some of them are obviously casual WoW or other players, a fair few of them are SC2 which was a massive surprise to me. Most of them play campaign/customs/2s/3s/4s and other though, only a few are actually the serious ladder type, which suggests that competitive 1v1 may not be as popular amongst this sort of crowd

The other thing is I don't think I've seen him enter a tournament since MLG Dallas, what made him take a couple month break and then quit his job to go at it full time?

Gretorp actually told Catz on Catz's stream last week that he might not have time to be a progamer at all anymore, whatever it is in his future might take up even more of his time than having a normal job does right now. But whatever Gretorp's got in store, it's some kind of content creation, not progaming.

iNcontroL - moving to SoCal, one of the best personalities in Starcraft Gretorp - also moving to SoCal, and another very personable Starcraft player Daniel Negreanu - professional poker player, on the same poker team as ElkY, a former SCBW pro, and at least knows about Starcraft. Suggested to be in talks with iNcontroL and others in the professional Starcraft world about something big. Oh, and he's also a very personable guy and has had plenty of camera time, and is fairly well known in the US. G4TV - offices located in Los Angeles, Recently sponsored, streamed, and did a few articles with the EG Master's Cup which was put on by iNcontroL's team, EG. What do you get when you combine 3 great personalities, a professional SC2 scene that's getting larger and more popular all the time, and a TV network focused on Video Games? Well, my dear nerds, you have a Starcraft 2 (or eSports) TV show. Oh, and Day9 lives in the area, too, but not sure if he would be involved with this So, that's my theory. I think a big tournament series with PokerStars as a sponsor could be possible as well. In addition to the Negreanu stuff, judging from comments from iNcontroL and SirScoots, there could also be an SC2 house in LA, as it doesn't sound like they're completely sold on a Korean EG house like they once were. They could very well do both, have small houses in Korea and LA as they've said they want to rotate players in Korea.
