Just watched the games.

Congrats Jangbi! This back to back titles is one of the sickest achievements in bw history, too bad they came in unfortunate times.

gg Fantasy

gg bw

Thanks to everyone from the LR threads in the "Broodwar" section who were here through all these years.

Feels so good that a Protoss got the last victory, the race has struggled a lot against Terran over the years I feel. It's probably my favorite match-up to watch and play.

All the Protoss legends will cheer for Jangbi, from GARIMTO, to Reach, Stork, Bisu, Nal_Ra.

Jaedong was confirmed in the crowd. I saw the camera pan to him twice. No clue on Bisu/Flash, but chances of Bisu being there should be extremely high considering it's his teammate playing and he most likely helped him prepare for the finals. I'm completely lost as to why Jaedong and Flash weren't on stage. Bisu never won an OSL though. All his golds came from MSL. So, I can understand why he wasn't up there. Then again, Yellow was there lololol
Grrrr..., ElkY, Jaedong and Bisu were there, not sure why none of them joined the legends on stage though (while Stork, for example, did) - perhaps, because Jaedong and Bisu weren't in top 16 of the current OSL while Stork was; I dunno.
Also, NaDa, iloveoov and Julyzerg are currently in the army; too bad OGN/Kespa couldn't ask for them to get a few days off and join this event.
No idea why Flash wasn't seen at all - either the camera never caught him, or he was too busy preparing for his KT match.

Welp that's it, the end of the greatest era of professional gaming. I will miss you very much Brood War, but I am not sad. I got to witness a cultural phenomenon the likes of which have never been seen before. Brood War will live on forever through our hearts and memories. I've greatly enjoyed the nearly 4 years I spent following the game and thanks are in order.

Thanks Blizzard for making and developing Brood War
Thanks OGN and MBC for creating your gaming channels and the individual leagues
Thanks all the companies who sponsored the teams and the individual leagues
Thanks you progamers who poured their blood, sweat and tears into becoming the best of the best. This especially goes to Flash, who showed me what it means to strive for perfection and inspired me like no competitor has before.
Thanks teamliquid staff for making this quality website and leading it to where it has become today.
Thanks fellow TL members for making this such a phenomenal online community. That includes the streamers, the liquipedia editors, the translators, the meme makers, the LRers, the writers official and unofficial, and all the other regular people who make it impossible to stop coming onto this site.

Meh. Not the end I had imagined. Oh well, in a way it is fitting.

Heh. Hehehe. HeheheheHAHAHAHA... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *ohgodI'mcryingthat'sfunny*.

Fantasy lost game one because JangBi took risks and Fantasy didn't have the balls to punish him for it. That was when the series was won. JangBi decided how each game would look. He controlled the tempo of the series, and in that way, could follow up on his game plan, while leaving Fantasy out of his element. JangBi played like a champion. He kept Fantasy passive and used every viable tech path except the one he's most famous for (HT/Storm based PvT). He did this because Fantasy's "secret" weapon of mass vultures is great against HTs and powerful vs. Arbiters. JangBi did exactly what Fantasy did against Stork. He won the series before the first game was played.

For the first time in ages, it feels like someone is playing Protoss the way it was always meant to be played. Not focusing on one unit or a few compositions, but rather abusing the flexibility of army compositions and the entire range of mobility vs. beefiness. It just seemed like his bag of tricks is endless, and that there's no way to play safe against him. It wasn't the Bisu/BeSt/Stork/most strong Protoss ever type of "everyone knows what he will do and there's nothing you can do about it", but rather an oldschool type of play revitalized. There is no real answer for this type of play except plain old outclassing the player in every way, something that no one can do. I truly believe that there is no answer for JangBi's play-style in a Bo5.

He was channeling Nal_rA, he brought Protoss back to it's roots and away from the overly stylized visions popularized by SKT Protoss. Today, JangBi earned an extra word to his nickname in my book.

JangBi, The Almighty Dreamer... The last king.

I think by the previous OSL, Jangbi already figured Fantasy's weakness - unpredictability, but you really can't blame Fantasy, his entire career was built from hard work and preparation (his own and the coaching staff + Oov) - but he lacks the relative tenacity and crisis management when his gameplan is thrown off. But in the differences of their innate playstyles, Jangbi is going to set the pace of the games (even if he doesn't win).

A very level headed player like Jaedong would be the bane of Jangbi, simply because of his stellar crisis management, and capable of establishing his will on the game (partially due to the nature of PvZ), and in general the answer to overly enterprising play is to defend, and transition into a solid management game where shenanigans only set the player behind. (Lesser players such as Neo.G_Soulkey, and Roro when he was still on FOX would also be very difficult opponents)

His matches from the semis to the final did demonstrate a playstyle that was a kickback from 2005, but I think more reminiscent of Anytime in his prime more than Nal_rA - a no nonsense in your face playstyle, willing to take risks, but also capable of long management games. I feel Nal_rA, while inventive, did not (often) take risks that endanger the game result in short tactical melee, but took risks of another kind - of risky builds, unit compositions, and early expand timings that were novel during his time.
Sometimes backwards is forwards.

What bothers me with the third game is how strong protoss units are when there is no longer a wall to keep them away. I've seen so many early elevators and almost as many terran never being able to deffend against the build.

Well, it was kind of anticlimatic at the end, but the serie was great. However, both semifinals were better IMO.

The 1 rax CC build is risky.
Edit: Actually, he went 14cc that game.

Err I don't know about didn't have the balls. It's more like Jangbi was prepared with fast robo and pumping out 4 obs asap for clearing mines, scouting drop routes, and positioning his goons ultra defensive. He took a very fast third expo, but he made sure he had enough to defend vs any kind of drop aggression. Anything by Fanta short of a super fast 1-0 push was covered by JB's defenses.

I'm with you on JB's bo5 preparation and play though. It was perfect. He won with build orders and strategy. Too many nooby kids cry for long games. Yet games where both players know what the other is doing and are just busy macroing up classic army compositions for max army battles is real-time tactics. STRATEGY is the mind games, build order predictions, etc that happen before they ever get in the booth. And that's what JB won with. Strategy. To me, it was the most fitting end SC could have had.

I really think if he'd go for a fast dropship play in game 1 he could have easily spread JangBi too thin. It's the textbook TvP answer to a fast 3 nexus that is defensible by ground, and plays directly to Fantasy's strengths. So many games played out like this on Andromeda, a much easier to defend Protoss three base map. Instead he chose to play standard from behind, which is either way too much confidence or a lack of trust in his execution. Or to phrase myself bluntly: lack of brains or lack of balls. And everyone knows that Fantasy is one of the smartest players ever.

I agree with you about strategy deciding the games. JangBi played beautifully on every level, and his stunning decision making in both the builds chosen and where to go from there won him a place as the last legend of BW.
Friendship is like peeing yourself. Anyone can see it, but only you get that warm feeling.

I thought the only guys that went up on stage were the players from the Legend Matches. Stork was an exception because his teamate had just won and they were showering him with Champagne just a moment before.
