this are best advice on thread... sorry for you loses, but if you lose, you learn the game okay. also 70 apm too low, you need to use ctrl key and number to make hotkeys then make probe, move warriors, make probe mine crystals, make unit from gate, move warriors, make probe, etc etc. you must do this very fast but starcraft is very hard game, please keep practice please!!! good luck and have fun, i hope you win!!

If you're a beginner, I'd suggest to understand each match up first.
Once you understand which unit beats what and when to fight or when to retreat you'll have some basic game sense.
Then you move on to learning build orders that you can practice against the computer. You just memorize the builds by practicing making each thing at the precise time for the build. In real life it won't always go the same way, but by having a structure, you can change later and understand when you can do certain things, timing windows, etc. I find that practicing against computer even though I am B rank on ladder is still helpful because I don't have to stress about playing on tilt or getting mad when I want to sleep after.
It helps me focus on ONE thing at a time to IMPROVE. If you play ladder, you'll run into all sorts of match ups and stupid rush/cheese strategies and you'll make more and more mistakes you'll have to keep relearning and repeating, but if you focus on ONE thing at a time, you learn faster.

I play against a 120 APM Protoss in practice, he was S rank one season on Korea
Who cares about APM when you just have more stuff...

Simply put, if you understand what to do, you'll worry less about APM. It'll naturally increase as you get more efficient and your brain knows what to do. I artificially increased my APM with a lot of clicking/spamming, and I think that left my decision making and game sense worse because I just find things to do that may not always be the most optimal out of habit.

Yes as razorsuke and moopower mentioned, you need to learn what to do before doing things fast, that comes with watching tutorials and beginner guides. Once you have a basic game plan for each match up you can worry about speeding up what you’re doing

APM isnt the stats you should really be chasing after
Just get to know the game, the units, what unit and build counters what, and most importantly, have fun. Don't lose fun trying to chase an arbitrary number, because that isn't what necessarily makes good players good. Some pro players have historically low APM and yet they still played pretty damn good, like Stork, Fantasy (to some extent) or even Savior.

Also I suggest maybe starting out playing some games versus computer, it'll help you build your basics

Sad people are trashing you when you play TT Remember, this game is 20 years old, nowadays there are almost nobody playing that do not understand the fundamental basics. I think also (sadly) if you make games with the headline "only noob so and so apm etc." you will not get those players that you hope for (where you can learn something from each game). This is because there simply is too many that are not noobs (nobody is noobs in sc, not even noobs^^). And many of them that win then trash talk you because they think they are sooo much better (but in reality they are maybe poor D/C rank players TT)
My advice, find somebody who will actually help you and that has decent skills (maybe another Peruvian?). The best way is to get advice as you play the game, and a more experienced player could help you with that. You need a mentor of sorts. Replays will help, playing vs computer will help, but if you do not understand how to use replays or even "how to play" (like what is hotkeys, basic build orders, the concepts of micro macro etc.) then it will do you no good trying on your own. It will go very slow at best. So try finding someone out there who are MANNER and wants to play some games with you :-)

Agree on the overall point but those three pro players aren't really the best examples. They are only "slow" relative to other pros yet still probably have at least 280+ APM with the majority of it being 'effective' APM combined with their reputation of being innovators displaying thorough strategic understanding of the game and knowledge of effective builds. Their skill FLOOR is waaaaay beyond anything an average player could possibly imagine to reach.

Don't worry too much about APM. It will come naturally as you learn to play. You can beat players with higher APM, especially if you play protoss!
Learn a few basic build orders and focus on not getting supply blocked (always have a pylon being made so you can build more units.)
Also, I'd assume it's true nowadays that there aren't really that many "noobs" around so you'll be getting beat a lot as you learn. Just the way it is in a game with not many new players.

Any recommendations for a free video-based guide that focuses on the fundamentals apart from Day9TV's "Let's Learn StarCraft" series that is on YouTube that he did a couple of years ago? Maybe there's a list of links to video guides like this somewhere? I also liked Day[9]'s old Brood War daily videos (now on YouTube), e.g. "Day[9] Daily #252 - Secrets of Hotkeys, APM and Mouse Movement" that I found very instructive. This particular info seems to be covered mostly in #9 and #3 of his "Let's Learn StarCraft" series.

I also just found liquipedia.net which contains a couple of podcasts by Day[9] about mechanics, with transcripts.
