Anyone know how old and new iCCup ranks map to one another? Been playin a bit and I've gotten to C-. But it feels way to easy compared to past so I'm a little skeptical. Doesn't seem like the other C+ players I've been facing are at the skill level I expect. I beat a B- player the other day, and now I definitely can tell B- ain't what it used to be. What gives?

They changed the ranks work so that you can move up through playing mass games against way lower ranks now. Like someone can go 300-300 while playing only against D players, which would mean he's actually a D skilled player, but he would probably be just about c+ or something. It kinda works this way all the way until A-. So if you see someone who is A or higher, then he's legit because he's been able to hold his own against a- players, but until that point, you really need to look at their stats and match list to evaluate how good the player is.

Thats really too bad. Hard to tell what skill level you're at, makes it annoying to gauge improvement.

yeah in a way it sucks because ranks no longer really mean much (below A at least), but it was necessary because it was really difficult to get games once you got to b-. I guess my recommendation (what I am doing myself, anyway) is to just play and have fun until remastered comes and we get a good ladder with matchmaking.

Yeah. I've abandoned iCCup in favor of 1.18 fish. Really easy to get games there, and can copy-paste korean into lobby names! Pretty fun.

I see a lot of pros have sometimes 2 or 3 separate bio balls moving around while macroing. Would it be worth grouping medics with marines just so this is easier and then ctrl + clicking the marines for stim until my multitasking skill is better or would it be not advised as to not form bad habits?

totally worth it. one of the problems less good players have when going 5 rax marine is that they end up having a clump of 40 m&m stuck at their base doing nothing. it's generally much better to not perfectly utilize a group of units than to not utilize it at all.

Like say you are bottom left on FS, other guy is top right. He has expanded to the top left. you have a group of 24 medics and 6 marines hotkeyed to 1 2 3, that you are sending towards top left. He has a bunch of lurker ling muta to fight you with, and a couple burrowed lurkers behind the top left bridge towards the natural. Besides those 3 groups, you still have like 20 m&m left over, but having 36 marines rather than 24 marines doesn't make too big a difference in a single battle vs mass lurkers. So then, I think it's even better for you if you kinda split it into two groups, then you hotkey your leftover 20 m&m to 4 and 5, and send them more directly towards his main base. you're in a big rush so you don't feel like grouping them precisely. Then you start moving towards top left, while your leftover units are in the center expansion. Then you move your center expansion units northward to intercept and disrupt his flank, press control+marine - t once you're in the same screen as him and scan, and then change to controlling your main groups, of 1 2 3. Seeing as how he has a lurker ling muta force, he can't really just charge head on towards your smaller group, he has to burrow his lurkers and micro to fight those. That fucks up his flank, and suddenly, your main group can punish the small amount of lurker ling that was present at top left.

Made up scenario, but small fights like that happen all the time. Sure your 20 m&m end up dead, and you weren't really controlling them, so maybe you lost 8 to one lurker spine or whatever, but you also disrupted the zerg, forced him to burrow lurkers, forced him to rebind hotkeys, fucked with his flank timing. a group of unstimmed m&m just being around in the middle of the map is harder to deal with for zerg than a group of lings are to deal with for terran, much like randomly burrowing 3 lurkers in the middle corridors where terrans often walk with their units is good for zerg, because the lurkers are likely to deal damage either way and terran needs to spend a lot of attention not losing their force against them.

It does depend on preference to some extent. For example Scan's muscle memory is setup so he can control at most 2 groups of MM, 2 groups of medics and 2 groups of marines. I've seen him leave extra balls of bio at important places, but does not control them. An important place like atop a ramp securing 2 unused expansions. Scan said he thinks group MM together in and ctrl + click is really bad. So there's a fair amount of preference on mechanical process, but the end goal is to get those MM groups into critical locations.

When stacking corsairs with a trapped probe, how do you make it so you can see where the corsairs are?

For example, I bind 6 corsairs and 1 trapped probe to hotkey '3'. They stack fine, but when I press '3' the screen goes to somewhere random on the map between my sairs and probe. How do I get it to focus on the sairs?

It's not "somewhere random" I think, but the calculated 'middle-point' between all the units in the control-group.

Try pressing ctrl+C.

I'm not entirely sure how that command works, I forgot, but I think it centers the screen on the unit in the control-group that the game prioritizes the most (here e.g. fighting-unit > worker afaik).

ctrl c works. Aside from that, you can add more corsairs to your group, then you get centered closer to the corsairs because there are more of them. ;p Double tapping 3 sets you to the average point of all units in the group.

Or click the portrait? I didn't know ctrl-c, thats cool. With zerg it's 11 vs 1 so you end up pretty much perfectly on the mutas.
