1. Auto matchmaking: Match fixing isn't the main issue for custom games in BW. I'm just sick of people hosting Fighting Spirit 99% of the time. Matchmaking makes for map diversity.

There was this game where JD scouted with first ovie and saw 12pool so he went 12hatch gas pool. (Modesty ovie went wrong way.)

Also to thezanursic, another creative way of playing this situation out is to just get an early evo chamber for +1.

That's no different from Terran or Protoss sending an earlier scout so they can get nex before forge or CC and gas before building a marine if they see 12 hatch at the first nat they scout. The situation I'm describing is different, I think.

Hmm, how super important is early vehicle plating when meching TvZ? Because at my low level I often find the combination of the units themselves draining a ton of gas + the need to actually pump out a lot of units earlygame in order not to die, makes me build just 1 armory and go 3/0 before I start the plating upgrades. Just the armory in itself is a goliath's worth of resources + 525/525 for the full plating upgrades. But perhaps I'm leaving money on the table by doing this?

What % of arbiter completion do I want to start stasis or recall if i want it to be ready exactly as the arbiter gets enough energy.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

Arbiter build time is 160 seconds, stasis research time is 100 seconds. Arbiter spawns with 75 (I think? not sure xD) energy, generates energy at 0.74 per game second (I'm not sure if the 160 seconds is game seconds or not, test it yourself), stasis uses 100 energy, so just calculate it all out.

I think it's better if you just start it as soon as you have the resources to do so, that way you can research another arbiter upgrade right after and open up more options on how you want to use your arbiter.

Also, you should stream yourself playing toss, I want to see. :D

What about for high templar. Sometimes I don't have enough gas for both high templar and storm. So when is a good time to start storm so that I won't be caught without it, but also wont get it too early and be cutting high templar needlessly.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

the best answer we can give you is simply when you can afford it. the timing of the upgrades are way too situational

It's just weird because for terran the timing of upgrade for irradiate is common knowledge.

you can just figure it out using maths if your aim is to simply have storm upgrade finish exactly when your first ht has mana to use it. but actual games never play out that way so theres no point
also vessels upgrade timings may be more concrete because without them they are just really expensive observers. hts have use without upgrades because of archons, so storm isnt as important of an upgrade to ht as irradiate/emp is to vessel

New question: I vaguely recall Day[9] talking in one of his early BW dailies about taking another main as your 3rd instead of the more natural 3rd that the map provides for you. Think Fighting Spirit. I think the idea was that although it might be a little harder to defend at first, you have a much clearer path to a 4th and 5th than if you had just taken your standard 3rd.

Any thoughts on this and when it's a good/bad idea? (If anyone knows which episode this is that would be great too).

In which matchup? In ZvT you usually take a main for your third, because the ramp is easy to hold with 2-3 lurkers. In ZvP it's fairly common to take another base's natural, because you simcity the natural and then put your fourth at the other main. But other matchups generally don't because they don't have the mobility of zerg.

Ok maybe he was talking about zerg? The matchup I had in mind was actually TvZ because I often have no idea when/where to expand after I've gotten my third. Knowing when to expand feels like a completely separate skill from the usual macro/multitasking/micro, and I'm quite poor at it. Overall it doesn't feel like it's taught to aspiring players as much as it perhaps should?

Usually in tvz you take your third sort of late but you take a close third. That being said late game you can take a 4th and 5th (at a main and its natural) really fast if you are putting a lot of pressure on your opponent.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

I got a tip for playing ZvP in Fighting spirit. keep overlord near the ramp cuz many times the toss will secure the ramp before taking the nexus. And it sucks if you just have vision of nexus going up, and you run in lings thinking he just started taking the expo.
