Some basic strats to TvT that i know of are: 2 port wraith, 2 fac tank, 2 fac vult (mine + speed), goli drop. 1 fac cc is questionable in TvT because it allows your opponent to contain you that much easier if he went 2 fac tank. 2 port wraith is probably my favorite build. It doesn't do alot of damage, but it's effective in stopping drops and altering your opponents build. If he was going 2 fac tank, hes going to need to add an armory or engineering bay, and than turrets/goli after. Both alternatives get massacred by tank/wraith (mostly tank in beginning). The basic flow of the match when i play (2 port wraith is the build i use usually): Attack with wraith -> expand -> move out with 2-3 tanks + scvs -> contain -> expand -> expand -> expand -> etc. I generally tend to be very passive in this matchup and try to get as much of a defensive advantage as i can. To attack a defensive terran you need at the least, twice as many troops, or ridiculous micro.

wraiths counter tanks. goliaths counter wraiths. turrets counter dropships. study this and you will become great.

a simple 2 fact vult rush or 2 fact 2 vul 2 gol rush provided ur floating rax sees it in time and do some delaying by landing on the expo spot

also remember if the other terran builds it in his main and floats it to the expo, this will cost him 20 to 30 secs which is almost half a CC! this means u can catch up somehow if u just use one vult to kill the SCV killing the CC while expoing straight urself (assuming u started with 2 fact)

if he builds it on the expo spot straight of coz he's asking for it =P

timing =O

A general TvT tip I can come up with off the top of my head is that the gayest player wins.

dont be afraid to build random turrets to contain your opponent. its not like you should ever be poor in minerals anyway

TvT is all about mapcontrol so always place turrets or mines all over the map so u can see his every move. fast contains are always fun since u have the biggest chance of winning then. however when u do this dont forget to place turrets or mines otherwise his drops might be deadly. aslong as u defend all your expands with allot of def(yes lame but it works) just expand expand expand and keep him contained and mass, its boring but thats tvt

Turrets up everywhere possible. Your mineral will sky rocket after one or two expansions. And dont be like me, remember to get gas at your expansion.

2 fac expo/2 fac drop expo - collecting dropships, drop game with lots of mech, usually. secure other main, contain opponent, make some random turrets, especially random turrets and contain vs tank/wraith if you pull it off.

fac port or fac port port into expo - usually you see what opponent has, harass with wraith early or not while making 1 fac tank, cc and switching to factories or tank/wraith, unless opponent makes fast expo of same build where 1 fac mass port can work

fast expo - expand fast with turret/siege tank and then go into mech(usually) or "suprise" mass wraith(good vs tank/wraith users who get expo after you and then you can catch them off guard with wraith before they switch to mech)

variations/suprise builds - 2 fac gol or vult and then add 2 ports for wraith.

I didnt say what dies to what because every game is different and writing longass essays on each minor build is pointless. Just shared few opening ideas.

you mean "Remember to piss before playing a TvT. Good TvT player always has food and drinks near comp in case of a long bc/turret/tank 1 hour+ game"? ^^

lol nah piss in a cup then if you get thirsty 2 hours down the track (in the same game) you can refresh yourself

anyway i guess i should answer this question... i always go random cos its more fun and i like it when they get pissed off when i wont select a race...if it ends up tvt ill go 3 port wraitha or marine rush , i dont often do many long tvt because if i have a long tvt i could have had 2-3 GG's in other matches by that time , know what i mean

Turrets everywhere, kill dropships with wraiths, then cliff him and expand. Keep killing his dropships when he tries to safe his cliff... Just delay while you get a turretline up and expo everywhere, then switch to tanks and goliaths (put wraiths on either islands if he seems like the sort of person who would get expos and go bcs).

Then you drop his main with a huge amount of tanks and some goliaths. Go back with your dropships don't let them die, and then get reinforcements. Drop either his cliff or on the same spot if your units are still alive.. they probably are since killing sieged tanks is a bit hard.

since the bulk of TvT has been saaid ill share one of my favourite tactics.

2 fac port gollie drop
i drop 4 goliaths behind his mineral line asap. the gollies can also counter a very early drop (1fac port), wraiths, and 4 gollies own a tank without seige.

this is not fool proof but i find it makes the game more interesting to go on the offensive rather than both tank/turret whore straight away
I refuse to engage in a battle of wits against an unarmed opponent.

the motion on this forum seems to be that 2 fact is a very strong opening on many maps =O

if u have center map control it doesn't really matter if wraiths are better or gols are.however if the map is pretty much open with room for flanking in the center (luna) gols are better. if the map is pretty tedious, lacking room for flanking (chow chow and korhal) wraiths are better. LT is with wraiths slightly holding the upper hand compared to gols i think

becoz TvT is a matchup that allows half of watever troops u have to defend safely, using the OTHER half of troops to gain another expansion is a very common style, which also leads to too many 30 to 1 hr long TvTs if both sides really play too safe with perfect timing for defending expos.

this is why randomly scattered turrets DO matter these allow some amount of recon to react fast enough to anything the other terran does, not to mention a lone turret somewhere on the map can later hold the key to securing expos OR tank turret map control in late game. whoever "gets there and holds it first wins"
