Hi, my name is SoMuchBetter and I suck at one base zvt.

Can someone give me some insight into playing proper one base zvt as well as point me into the direction of some good replays of one base zvt

No one can one base zvt, unless its a 1 hatch lurk and you quickly take additional expoes. Do you wanna know a 1 hatch lurk build or something?

Whenever i open with something that isnt a fast expansion i always die. I guess i should have named this topic something like 12/3 one base zvt

I've sometimes been successful early game with 2 hatch one base muta/ling. Harder on better players and if you screw up (expo too late or micro mistake), you are dead.

Yeah, on 12/3 bases, if I don't do some kind of 1 base strat, I usually get rushed hard.

Well LT is not a very good one base map due to the ease of taking expansions... If you play one base and end up not increasing your expansions/econ then your opponent will easily play conservatively while expanding themselves and overpowering you.

However on non-LT I find it a bit easier to play one base. Maps like Enter the Dragon make starting with fast expo very hard and completely different playstyles become possible to make effecient due to the difficulty your opponent will also have expanding and defending their expansion.

For playing one hatch on Lost Temple I find it best to find an open spot where you are safe BEFORE your lurkers morph to put up your first expansion hatchery. Then make sure to keep good gas macro and be safe with your units while amassing some drones. Many players like to switch to Muta, I find it moderately successful though vs a good player it's more of an annoyance that is centered around making them feel uneasy and taking advantage of open spots in defenses and giving you the ability to pick off Science Vessel while using small lurker forces to discourage large amounts of marine/medic.

You can also try to play 2Hat in main. This is not nearly as hard as playing one hatch, because if you make enough drones early on(Perhaps use a few of the first 4-6 post-pool larvae to make drones instead of lings because you need to drone up early so you can make nonstop lings/lurker/muta later) and go for the early game ender. I actually like burrow alot in this situation as I find it confuses most mid-level Terrans and can discourage even very good T's to play cautiously. Giving you opportunities to expand and maybe go straight into a power strat like Ling/Lurker/Defiler while expanding and perhaps using scourge to stop drops and pick off Science Vessels, because late game mass SV is always a huge threat.

the build is something like

pool/gas
lair
lurker aspect
exp when you have moneys so you still get lurkers on time

if you caught the siva vs boxer match i think siva does a pretty similar build.

well you need lurkers midgame anyway so that leaves you with one choice really.

No you can do 2 hatch lurker / ling just fine, but then you are at a disadventage at some point - you will have to exp just as your lurkers hatch.

Ofcourse, the difference is not that big so you should get away with it on lower levels -_-

Why do you want to 1 base? :|

anyway, maybe what is a good 1 base build, is 12 hatch on choke, 11 gas, 10 pool. Pump some drone, make sunk on choke, ling if you're feeling insecure (but you shouldn't as all zergs should scout with their 9th drone), then get lair, and hydra den. Research drop first, then lurker aspect, you should be able to do that because you did gas really fast. After that get OL speed, and you got a pretty fast lurk drop. Then expand while you cover it with lurker or something ;o

Oh and get your hydra den at creep of that 2nd hatch, he'll most likely scan your main, see just a lair, but no spire/den. A lot of terrans assume you're going muta then ;o

p2h I'd recommend a 3 hatch build, with your 2nd hatch in the crossroads (:

Then you have to be very careful with your sunk positioning. p2h isn't a very zerg-friendly map.

If you go one base Terran has to play defensive early one because of how many troops you will have so early in the game, so once you leave your base you can take 2 expos right off the bat. The biggest thing to watch for is Dropship harrass, which will give you trouble because you won't have enough troops to easily defend 3 bases and contain him.

On p2h I suggest pool first, then 2nd hatch at crossroads, and 3rd hatch at expand. Then either muta or lurkerdrop so you can take islands.

If you're 9 pooling, don't waste your lings trying to kill him. Just see what he has, if he has like 5 scv and 2 rine on his choke, don't bother, and make a sunk asap at your 2nd hatch, because you don't want to waste larva on more lings. If he only has 1 rine, kill the 5 scv anyway. 5 scv make a lot of difference in his eco. Most likely you'll be able to kill rines after that too :p

9 pool basically means you're 3 hatching, but when he's teching, I'd go 2nd hatch, and gas relatively fast. You need a lair fast vs cliffdrop or whatever gayness he might throw at you. Sacrificing a lord to see his tech also comes in handy, like when he's getting 2 port wraith, it's convenient to build a spore at each of your mineral lines. They don't cost that much, and he can't do jackshit with his wraiths then. If you do that, you can still power some drones, and build muta later (even if your spire is already completed). If he's building wraith btw, get OL speed too.

Anyway, if he's not teching, just do your 9 pool (9/9 pool, 8/9 drone, 9/9 extractor trick into 10/9 drone, then lord, then 6 ling when lord+pool finishes. With exact timing the lord finishes at the same time as when the pool finishes). After that get your hatch at 13/17, and your 3rd hatch at 15/17, while building drones. Get a sunken at your 2nd hatch, and pump drones. Get gas around 18/18, and lair after, and keep track of his tech/amount of rines. Then just continue with whatever you want to tech.

okay thank you all for your help *hugs twisted* next question.
you expo, terran bunker rushes, you lose your expo. Is there anything you can do that doesnt result in typing enter, g, g, enter, alt +q, q?

Lurker drop! then retake exp, power hardcore, try harassing him as much as possible so he doesn't attack yet, build up an army, expand more, just power hardcore, non-grade, just hardcore units

Then it all depends on first battle. If you win that with overwhelming numbers, you can win again~

in 3v12 you might try lurker rush with some harass (I would have went 10/9, pool/gas speedling rush if I knew he was up there earlier)
