Like basketball, no one owns basketball, anyone can play, anyone can setup an event, ect... events can be put on with the advertising fees going to pay the casters and players. Businesses are looking to make a quick profit and move to the next big thing. Doesn't matter if it is MLG, GomTV, ASL, Blizzard, Activision whatever. There are people who would make Commander content for Starcraft II for free. Or they could be subsidized with small fees for their content. I know some people think this game is dead. Good games never die, though at some point, every good game becomes like Chess, where companies can't make as much money with them than they could with the next big thing. No single entity owns Chess... we all do, and people still get paid to play it and Chess boards sell. The community needs to own Starcraft, or build it's own game.

Not sure why that passive aggressive comment was necessary. It was implied in my writing that if the community can't get the game in the public domain like Chess, the community needs to build one that is.

Only way that could happen is the company drastically changes or enough times goes by that no one gives a shit anymore about the SC franchise. Both of which are unlikely.

Yeah, that one Hivemind of a communtiy You seem pretty upset with me or negative in general with that tone, I'm just a random guy on the internet, don't let me get to you. Someday you'll be happy again. To directly answer: there is a desire for an English broadcast of professional Broodwar games. Companies that put profits over the game make satiating that desire difficult. If the game was in the public domain, like basketball/Chess, we could have organizations run tournaments indefinitely, without fear of any profit driven company shutting the whole thing down.

https://communitytournaments.blizzardesports.com/en-us/ Facts matter man. Do your homework. I'm just repeating myself because you haven't read/understood my initial post in regards to comparing Stacraft to Chess and basketball. I'm not here to convince you, just here to tell you I was convinced. I don't really care if your not convinced, and even though it seems to be apparent since your engaging in this discussion that you care about me being convinced, your arguments aren't swaying me because you haven't done your homework.

Read the licenses. Here is just a snippet: On Site Audiences. You may not charge fees of any kind for spectators to watch the competition in-person. Hit the books man.

How is it even possible that they dont write big red numbers on Starcraft and Warcraft? Or how is it possible that Take organizes all those Homestory Cups? Wardi/Basetrade and who not keep on throwing tournaments. Have you guys heard them say:"But we have to pay Blizzard too much, we cant create the tournaments...." What did they do? Still not sure where this comes from. When was the last they FORCED PAYWALLED you guys? I guess when they charged money for Remastered, greedy bastards! You're being childish. It is wildly known that Blizzard actively tried to kill the SC1 scene in Korea in favor of SC2 before Remastered came out. The first move they did to support Remastered when it came out was to charge Afreeca a ridiculous sum of money (some say close to the actual costs to even hold the tournament) for a tournament license.
