If I remember correctly, during the peak of the KeSPA-ran Brood War pro scene (beginning of 2008 to the end of 2010?), the clear-cut six best Protoss players were Bisu, Stork, Jangbi, Best, Kal, and free.
Why were only this specific group of Protoss players given this recognition by the fans and the public?
There were just as talented Zerg/Terran players who existed during this time and deserve the same type of praise. Some of them even went on to win titles.
For Zergs, you had Jaedong, Effort, Zero, Calm, Luxury, and fake Yellow (you could throw in Kwanro and Hydra if you broaden your criteria).
For Terrans, you had Flash, Fantasy, Light, Sea, and Leta (again, you could throw in players like Forgg and Hwasin but I won't).
Why didn't Zerg have an exclusive group called the "Four Demon Kings" or the "Five Great Commanders" for Terran? (sorry for the terrible names)

You should add Mind for Terran. Even if his peak was relatively short, he still won MSL and was Wemades top terran (even though it did not last).

probably because protoss is considered to be the least successful race. also when you look at protoss players out of the 6, theres really no other player that deserves that kind of recognition. its probably why those 6 were highlighted so much, they were literally the only 6 protoss players that were considered consistently good.

JulyZerg instead of Calm. Please fix!
Also for Terran remove Sea and Light and put in... I DONT KNOW... Boxer? Last? Nada?
Do all Protoss players have this warped of a perspective of the all time top players of other races?
And to answer your question: We don't bother with silly things like that... ^_._^

Light was one of the best proleague players and presence since 2007 in individual leagues. Last had good records during 2011-2012 but before that...
Nada would make a contender but his prime was during different era compared to six dragons.

I miss Garimto and Nal_ra in this list...
Everything is biased.
P.S. I see you are talking only for the interval to two years in between 2008 and 2010... Back then zergs and terrans were busier and were thinking about other things. - to bash savior for his match-fixing and terrans were looking for their next terran savior after the absence of Boxer and iloveoov (and at some point Flash started to shine).

That and none of them were miles ahead of the others, unlike with Flash and Jaedong.

Six Dragons
TLDR Protoss has generally been the least successful race, for a 6 month period it was the most successful and these six were the frontliners.

Considering the damage Luxury and Yarnc did, I'm not sure they should be mentioned in the list. Put Soulkey in there if you need a replacement.

Protoss have Six Dragons because Zerg and Terran have Bonjwas.

Zerg player (and July fanboy) here... Can't say I approve of this, needs some heavy edititing ^^ JulyZerg... 3 OSL and Golden mouse. No matter how you spin it (time intervall's etc. this cannot be overlooked!!!!!). Also, you include players who "fell from grace" (luxury/yarnc) ... if it's a discussion of who could "be" the zerg equivalent of the six dragoon's then Savior would be a contender as well... But yeah, different time periods, different focus etc.. but I think it is hard to make an actual list. I agree with someone that wrote that they got this nickname because they stood out significantly from the rest of the Protoss players

I'm fairly certain it came from the gap between 6th best protoss and 7th best protoss. There weren't really any other Ps that could really win anything in team league or individual leagues at the time while there always seemed like there was another T/Z in line to replace any underperforming T/Z in the team leagues/individual leagues.

no amount of terran or zerg players will ever be close to the greatness that the Six Dragons were.

I can tell you for sure about this part.
Let me give you all the nicknames of the famous gamers of the time.
Protoss
Group = Six Dragon (Bisu , Stork , Jangbi , Free , Kal , Best)
Bisu = Revolutionary Stork = Commander-in-Chief Free = God of Battle Jangbi = All Mighty Best = Monster Kal = Acrobat AnyTime = Reaper
Terran
Group = Leta , Light , Sea (There was no clear group name, but korean SC fans made a group of three Terrans)
Flash = Final weapon Leta = Miracle boy Fantasy = Terrorist Mind = Venomous snake
Zerg
Group = Clam , Zero , Effort
Jaedong = Tyrant Effort = Messiah Zero = Queen's son Clam = Brain Action = Defiler Master Shine = Typhoon Soulkey = Iron wall
Taekbangleessang = Bisu , Stork , Flash , Jaedong
If you have any questions, ask me and I can answer you.
The standards I wrote are based on the 09-10 season.

I can only speak for zerg but during this time you only had 2 players that deserved any attention. Jaedong who was rolfstomping all protoss left handed aside of Bisu which was the only challenge and the rise of EffOrt who was a killing machine for SPL making him the easiest bet ever with Flash and achieving the best zvt mu ever recorded I swear. Others zerg players weren't even close to these two so it wouldn't be right to associate them.

If your criteria is strictly isolated periods of dominance during that time then yes, Jaedong and Effort were the only two Zergs who looked like absolute monsters for at least a good 5+ months.
But Zero and Calm's overall body of work was at least as good, if not, better than Effort's from 2008 to end of 2010 overall.
Calm was consistently making the playoffs of Starleagues more often than Effort did. Remember that Calm beat Jaedong in a Bo5 and ultimately won the MSL. He made the playoffs of the MSL every single time after his MSL win except for 1 time. He also made the Ro4 of the OSL a couple of times as well. In terms of Proleague, Calm was a monster during 2009 but of course people like Effort and Jaedong were overshadowing him.
Zero didn't win any titles during this time but almost always made it to the playoffs of both Starleagues. He was also a good Proleague player who could beat anyone on a good day. However, what really made Zero turn heads was his mechanical ability; he was a great macro player, he had creative builds and strats, and his muta-micro was among the best in the scene. He was a player everyone thought underachieved because of how good his mechanical abilities were.
To say those two don't deserve ANY attention is absurd.
