if by fixing almost nothing (and ruining some decent parts of old bw) this is the best they can come up with then im really sure BW remastered will be a complete disaster - nobody's checkin' bugs for those and messing with the graphics will really be a lot worse than just fixing the latency which was really the only problem with the game

Good to see that keybindings are still on the table, at least with Remastered (and I assume classic BW as well).

If they can fix most of those major issues, then the game will be in significantly better shape. Although the update was a rough foundation for modernization, at least they're aware of the most significant issues and are communicating with us about them.

the battle.net interface is stupid and inferior to the old one

1) it's a bitch to join a friend's game, in the old interface you'd be able to just click alt+j>enter if you've previously already been a friends game name

2) it's a bitch to join private games, it was a million times easier to input game name/pw with hotkeys instead of typing in the search function like a retard or scrolling through the trillions of game list like a pleb. friend follow programs would make this bearable but none of them work anymore

3) there's a bug where sometimes your game name shows up on game list as duplicates, making it harder for people to join the real one you're hosting

4) why is there a buffer/loading screen when creating a games? why can't it just be instant like 1.16?

+1... especially points #1 and #2.

#2 is plain ridiculous. Searching for even a private game lol. At least just keep a gamename/password section so you can manually type it all like we've been doing for years....

I don't like that when you click to join a game, it clears your previous chat. Caught a glimpse of a person trying to message me when I went to join a game, gone when I come back. Have to do "/r repeat that pls?"

I also had trouble joining games when I searched for them and they were private. Not sure if that was something between us or what, but I had no problems joining his public games.

In-game, I found out that the Probe building a building sometimes gets in the way of itself, as in you can't place the bulding because the Probe is already standing there. Pretty sure that never happened before or maybe I'm just retarded.

I also noticed some strange pathing behavior but I can't comment on that 100% because that is pretty much the definition of Brood War.

I hope that they actually do come out with them, though. Seems like this could be interpreted as they're still "keeping it on the table" in terms of discussion as we wait for Remaster's release.

Athlugh I don't hate key rebinds as much as before, I'd rather have them not implemented, either. But if Bizzard decideds to have this option eventually, I hope they've talked to the korean pros and listen to their opinion so that we have a somewhat confirmation that it's not "game breaking".

They just said that widescreen will be an option when creating the game, as in it will be for both SD and HD versions.

"

(Edited)

Syf,

We believe it should be a game creation option. This way players will know what type of match they are entering, and gives control regardless of whether playing SD or HD."

that was from the Dev.

I am curious, what problems u have with rebinds? U dont have to use them, are you afraid u will be pushed miles behind in terms of getting better if u are not gonna use custom hotkeys and someone is going to, really? This just reminds me of thinking "what mouse should i buy to play better"..... This is really the thing which helps out newcomers, beginners, old school players to come back.

Yea I have to agree. I couldn't care less if someone rebinds their hotkeys, if it is an official feature of the game. And I am one of the guys that disallowed the usage of Doxstar in their tournaments, but as soon as everyone has that feature and can use it, I do not see any harm in it. All old BW players will stick to their hotkeys they are used to anyway. I couldn't imagine using any different hotkey layout than the original german hotkeys, as I used them for 15 years or something. So seriously where is the harm in hotkey rebinding? It does not affect balance or gameplay and is only really beneficial to absolute newcomers..

If you ask me personally here are a few points, I'm probably missing some important ones but that's my take on it:

1) "Gameplay would not be changed from the original StarCraft: Brood War." - That's how the remaster was advertised and that's what at least I expected. Hotkey layouts, at least in my book, are part of the gameplay. That means either Blizzard doesn't consider these things part of gameplay (which is a scary idea because that means lots of other things aren't part of it either) or we've been told false info from the start.

2) We can all agree that hotkeys in BW aren't ideal. The question is whether this is a bad thing or not. After all the Brood War people grew up on, the Brood War that nurtured the scene for almost 20 years did just fine with them. Discussions around which pro does which setup are integral to learning a new race and part of it is working around the fixed layout. It's part of the game and gives it more flavor than everyone pressing the same buttons on the same grid.

3) The classic slippery slope argument: In a vacuum rebindable hotkeys are a good thing from my perspective. Some people have physical issues where this helps them, others like the same binds across multiple games, these types of things are all good valid reasons for something like this. However simply because it's a just a small QoL change I think it's a scary precedent. Now that we have higher resolution zooming out a bit would just be appropriate for modern times, right? Hell, things like MBS or bigger control groups can be great ideas with the exact same logic. What about a colorblind mode that adds better contrasts for everyone?

Once you add too much QoL you start attacking the mechanical foundation of the gameplay and it's no longer even remotely the same.

Overall, to me, everything that goes on after the five second countdown is part of the gameplay. Just pushing up resolution doesn't affect this but for example invisible units getting a better visible color would. Analogue even the most basic things like hotkeys aren't something you can seperate from the gameplay and claim it doesn't matter at all.

It does influence gameplay, no matter how you look at it. Here my hope is that it's an absolute exception and not a sign of a basic design principle that shows how Blizzard understands "Gameplay won't be changed from the original".

What pro Korean think about the hotkey change?
Blizzard needs to listen to them because they are the only reason why BW is still alive

Seconded esp. number 1 and 2. I'm not even checking 1.18 now because it's just menu browsing instead of playing.

MBS or bigger control groups would change the game drastically, custom hotkeys dont change nothing at all.

Can you bring some real situations from the game, how the custom hotkeys gonna negatively affect on it?
