But all in all, having the game work properly is most important.

I figure most starcraft fans with purchase BW:R, and I highly doubt newer players would even want to get near the classic. This is assuming that their f2p business model is to introduce newer players to the game. Seems like unnecessary work to make them compatible imo. Regardless, I hope it won't affect BW:R patches because of some incompatibility issues.

But you have to buy a different edition to even play it with them and also their version of the game is much better than yours." is basically the situation to avoid. This way, people can join in and play using the original version, and the remastered doesn't look like SC2 level graphics quality so it's not like it's a spectacular upgrade enough that people would play the remastered but not the normal anyway. It just looks like polished BW. This model screws over less people. Also I've gotten like 5 people more interested in brood war with the sentence "It's free and it's got customizable hotkeys", so I'm all in favor of this.

I'm still surprised that they're managing to plan on getting this cross-compatibility working. I can't think of another remastered game that also has cross-compatibility with their legacy versions, so I wasn't expecting SC:R to actually have that feature.
