They're remaking BW so hard that they're even remaking BW's tough development when they spent 14 months assuming that the game was only 2 months away from shipping.

I would love for people who are asking for tweaks to hang out together and design their game. Platforms of competition that require constant tweaks are bad at their core, and playing with the core of something that's already good tends to leads to failure. F1 fucked itself up beyond repair with tweaks over tweaks, Olympic taekwondo is a joke. A good sport comes with maturation, not DRS or ever changing ridiculous point systems or custom hotkeys. There's SC2 if you like to be babysitted, bw needs modern OS support, not rule changes. Seeing any change to be at this point would just make me go the openbw route.

I think two things that I haven't seen much discussion on are the future of map making and LAN in BW HD.
One of the big problems with SC2 is that the community has had little influence over competitive maps, which has lead to both a stagnating meta and limited community control over the balance. Do you think that Blizzard in an attempt to "modernize" the game will limit the community's influence over the map pool, or are they smart enough to realize the consequences of tampering with this?
Also, Blizzard has a financial interest in removing LAN from BW HD like they did in SC2. By integrating BW with Battle Net, will they remove LAN in the process? I am sure if they did the game would either be dead on arrival or result in a split BW community.
The discussion on MBS/army selection/pathing/etc has been done to death, but I am interested in hearing your guys' thoughts on these two important features. Are there any acceptable changes here, or are any changes out of the question? I am still cautiously optimistic about this announcement though.

I don't know if Blizzard will limit the community's influence over the map pool but frankly, it'll be stupid of them to actually touch the maps or remove LAN from the game. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Custom hotkeys is honestly pretty irrelevant..... I'm not sure I'd even rebind anything. Used `,q,w for 0,9,8 in sc2 and that was about it. Oh and side-mouse button for idle workers which isn't even a thing in bw so
BW would not be hurt even in the slightest from that, it's still a million miles apart from MBS, automining, idle worker hotkeys, unlimited unit selection etc. Those I hope they don't touch.
I also wish they'd keep all the / commands but I doubt it.... Missed them in SC2 a lot (/w, /r, /f l......).

sc2's release was the saddest shit i've ever seen. Total regression in terms of both social and game features, have they learned?

If the HD version turns out to be the same gameplay with just HD sprites, ladder, some of the OS fixes etc... that'd be great otherwise, I have no quarrels to sticking with BW as it is right now. I don't play the game for the graphics, I play it because I love it and the cool graphics atm only compound that

That's a good point. If it's using BNET 2.0, then it shouldn't have LAN.
Welp.

more like Bnet 0.2 ?

I somehow skipped it, so was it officially announced and if yes, at what page can I read about it? Pretty big thread, don't feel like going through every page. Thanks in advance.

I thought, somethig serious has happened, like an announcement.

Well it gained traction because blizzard is no longer selling BW on battle.net. It's sold out.

If they actually make this, I really doubt they add any of these extra features besides increasing resolution and adding compatibility with Windows 7 - Windows 10. Since we're larping as blizz designers though, I'd like to see some of the few things that are actually better in sc2 added to the game such as better non-cheating AI (maybe they could incorporate some of the bwapi bots), a better replay system (with 3rd party programs, we are pretty close to having feature sc2 has except skipping backwards in a replay! lol), a "training mode" like sc2's SALT (yes, i know blizz didn't make this). Agree with better mapping tools and adding an optional classic mode with standard pixel graphics.
On custom hotkeys- I used to hate the idea, but honestly it's pretty irrelevant. Some foreign players use hotkey changing programs and they didn't suddenly become the next Sziky or even place higher in defiler tours. I can confidently state that I have never lost a game because of the added millisecond it takes to hit 'p' rather than 's' or 'd'. One could argue that the minute benefits might add up in a progame, but we all know pros are just going to enforce standard hotkeys anyway.
If we take the good parts of sc2 (there are good parts, even hardcore BW fans can agree) while avoiding the nerds on battlenet calling for a patch because they just lost a gold league game, this could be good for SC.

I'm hoping gameplay remains exactly the same.
customizable hotkeys and wide-screen aspect ratios I would be fine with however as I don't think they affect gameplay / balance too much and would help in getting some newer players into the game. the micro possibilities with custom hotkeys would be pretty interesting. If by resolution you mean how much of the game a person can see at any one time, that will most certainly affect the gameplay.
