My one question is currently I can host ranked games on ICCup with the match up in the name will it be this way on ShieldBattery? From my experience if I host a 1v1 D-C you are going to get all Toss gets boring really quick. Matchmaking will be automated. No picking and choosing matchups for ranked play. Word the fuck up. No one-MU-wonders up in here. Get good at your weak MU or lose rank trying, man UP.
I like this mentality.

this means you cannot play 'pvt only', but does it mean you cannot race pick? I must honestly say that I have a hard time seeing myself play any ladder that forces me to play a mirror matchup one third of the time. ;p

I've been racepicking and playing Random way too much recently, I would hate to give it up.

Surely it would account for everyone.

I'm no programmer so I don't know the feasibility of this, but I'm immediately thinking that the race selection screen (and preferably this isn't something you have to select every time you play) should have four different selections? Like instead of just picking 'protoss', you pick what you're going to play vs protoss, vs terran, vs zerg and vs random. Then in the event of colliding players (say, both select playing pvt pvz zvp), randomly make one of them zerg and one of them protoss.
For me that would mean that I would rather than select zerg, I'd select zvt, zvp, pvz, rvr. and then I'd get to play zvt and zvp but I wouldn't have to deal with zvz, and I'd be super happy. I imagine this is actually a fairly big deal for any race picker - for me it is pretty integral.

Surely it would account for everyone. But then you run into that game of footsies where both you and your opponent will be switching race during the countdown or whatnot. Example: We match up neutral. You are Terran and I am Protoss. However, you prefer Zerg vs. Protoss, so you switch. Then I switch to Terran vs. Zerg because that's what I prefer. You don't know this match-up so you switch to Protoss vs Terran because you don't like mirrors. I switch to Zerg vs. Protoss because my Terran vs. Protoss sucks. So on and so forth.
I think the much better option would be to have your race pre-set in your profile somewhere, or in the matchmaking tab. Have it be like four drop-down menus:
[?] v P [?] v Z [?] v T [?] v R
(you get to pick P, T, Z or R for each ? in a drop-down)
And you can't leave any of them blank/empty in an effort to dodge a specific race. THAT is the optimal way imo.
EDIT: Oh shit, Liquid`Drone sniped me ;-;

I don't think any type of implementation of race picking or arranged matches should be a high priority goal.
Since if your goal is to practice one match-up, I believe you should just play custom games.
I do agree however that when it comes to a game like brood war, allowing people to make detailed choices relating to somewhat trivial preferences such as the types of match-ups they want to play, is the way to go.
It should however be prespecified which match-ups you would like to play, no switching upon seeing someone's race to avoid situations where both players want to switch and can't reach a compromise.
If you want to ladder, you have to abide by its rules.

can't there just be a alternative race for mirror-matchups that you can select? if there's a clash then between two ZvP/PvZers then just have one picked one at random
ZvZ is bullshit and one of the best parts of iCCup is that I can just play PvZ

No racepicking imo- maybe more foreigners will finally learn mirror matchups.

Is there a date for when new invites are going to be send?

you can talk about "manning up" or whatever, but truth is in the current scene everyone that now still plays BW do it pretty much for fun, theres no incentive for anyone to be professionally competitive anymore unlike sc2 (even the incentive of the latter is poor in itself anyway..)
so people should be given racepick options and not be forced to play something they don't like.

Yeah, if it's not too difficult to implement, I think racepick system suggested above would be important in maintaining the server population.
