People are probably gonna pause the game for reasons like responding or chatting with a friend in the background

I just don't understand the point of creating hype post if it isn't near completion / near launch yet, we already have been waiting for a ridiculous amount of time for Birdies server, what is the point of releasing hype post if it isn't released within a few days / 1 week after, seems like a poor marketing strategy lol

probably to get beta testers before they go for a full release. If they release it and it turns out that there are some issues they missed, it would be bad marketing.

Nah it seems excessive considering how small the community is lets be honest here lol

Don't expect before July.

As much as I look forward for it, I hope it won't make the community split between Iccup (more for casuals, ppl not so much into what is happening on the scene) and shield battery. In reality it's better to have 1 server with 500 ppl than 2 servers with 250 ppl..
Anyhow I really hope for best that this can drag some people back to BW!

To be honest... I'm really thinking I'm going to stay on ICCUP.
Thanks to the DDraw fix and the mcalauncher. I'm not having a single issue running BW on Windows 10. Also, I just got addicted to the interface that utilize the keyboard shortcuts (alt + j , alt + c , /r ...etc).
Also one main thing. It is just hard to get used to the missing game lobby screen. The ingame interface just felt much more natural than the web one. Especially since I don't play window mode.

This is a positive thing and will drag more people into broodwar, as it appears to be structured like a flash game. And people love flash games that can be played without installation; Plus it makes it accessible if your not on your computer and wanna play a bw game;
So i think iccup will be the more competetive if anything and this will be for more casual gamers; Once people play 1 game of Broodwar, they become curious and interestedin it; If they hang in there enough, they will start playing it regulary; if the matchup automatic works, people will find players opposed to them on the same skill level; This i believe is the single most important obastacle to new players forging an acceptance into the Game;

I believe you still have to have a (patched) copy of broodwar installed on the machine. However if you've got it on a pendrive, don't see why not.

Since if your goal is to practice one match-up, I believe you should just play custom games.
I do agree however that when it comes to a game like brood war, allowing people to make detailed choices relating to somewhat trivial preferences such as the types of match-ups they want to play, is the way to go.
It should however be prespecified which match-ups you would like to play, no switching upon seeing someone's race to avoid situations where both players want to switch and can't reach a compromise.
If you want to ladder, you have to abide by its rules. I would hardly say that the types of match-ups you play are "trivial," as they are a core aspect of what this game is lol
Depends on how you look at it. Since most people don't care about getting good, there's no real reason for them to let the difficulty of a match-up hinder their ability to get enjoyment from it.
This is why I said it would be a trivial choice for them, they switch races as they switch their clothes every other day.
Someone who tries to become the best player he can be, doesn't have this option since the absolute elite don't respect race picking as it wasn't allowed by KeSpa.

I don't think that match up selection is a small thing (even though I dislike it). Foreigners are so used to avoiding mirror match ups, it could be difficult to take that away from them.
With that being said, I think the impact it has on server activity will be trivial compared to the server's ability to draw in the Korean audience. Without Korea, it will be hard to maintain decent activity and it will be hard to maintain the top player's activity on the server, thus leading to further inactivity.
There needs to be some kind of reward system for ladder which benefits both the top Koreans on ladder and the top foreigners, I can't see the server staying too active past the first quarter unless this is accomplished. Most foreigners simply don't play often enough and are far too split on when they play.

Maybe they player can have a different mmr for each race? ( Terran mmr, Zerg mmr, Protoss mmr, Random mmr)

That's actually the opposite of how I see it. Because no one is trying to become pro, why play match-ups you detest? It simply doesn't make sense to do something you don't like.
And I would say that "most" people, or at least from the profiles I've seen on ICCup/Fish, have definite race/MU selections with only a few games played with other races on a whim I'm guessing. Almost no one switches races every day, and the people that do are often Random players. Either way, this does not make an argument that picking MU is trivial.
By the way, KeSPA definitely did allow race-picking. See: July vs. Chojja, Savior vs. I forget who, etc.

What a nonsense really, if you dont mind getting good just leave the matchups you dont like and queue for another. Simple as that. In matchmaking you should not be allowed to racepick, you should pre-select race and once opponent is found play it or leave it...
EDIT: Or stay iccup/fish

My issue isn't playing the other races its that when I did host just D-C without saying races 8 times out of 10 I got a Protoss when I only get to play 3-4 games a day it becomes boring as hell when all are Protoss. Sure I could stick to customs but I like the competition of ranked.
Not all of us care about getting #1 on ladder we want to have fun while ranking up and playing 80% Protoss isn't fun for me. It was the same on Starbow we had 80~ active members and most games I played was TvP it gets boring.
Another concern I have is I simply can't play against people from PE is there going to be a fix for this lag or will I have to dodge everyone from PE? The lag between us is unbearable.
