I didn't know Tossgirl was in Shanghai. I need to find a way to launder 3000 yuan and have her all for myself. More seriously, I'll definitely chip in, thanks OP for sharing this.
rofl if tossgirl is gonna play lan, only worth 500 dollars? who is gonna pay the travel and hotel fee??? i would personally pay $500 to stay with her for a night. also i dont think anyone here would donate. but those ultimate tossgirl or bisu fan who are extremely rich would do this in china. so lets just wait for this happens lol
Bisu's price should be way higher. Not sure what the original article says (broken link) but if I'm understanding this right, it's pretty funny that the organizers require Tossgirl to be there in-person.

The link is broken because the forum goes for routine maintenance every night. I translated the original article, so it's almost the same. They didn't say anything else special.
I can't guarantee it's not a scam but it's most likely not, as other famous BW websites in China are reposting this like a big news.
If you go to the fundraising website, you click on the first picture with the word "FBL", which means First Blood League, then it will direct you to the actual website for fundraising. That final website is Taobao, which is the biggest online marketplace in China (and in the world) with a pretty secure payment system. And the price they ask for it's 10 yuan for one person, which is $1.7. And it shows that it already sold 190 times.
I have no idea why they post a link that require you to redirect twice though.
They didn't post much info about the event. I guess it's just a show match. The Chinese organizers in these fansites are very casual and unorganized. They don't do the EG kinda big announcement with well-written articles and pics. It's their style.
Anyway, it would be better to grab the more active famous progamers like mOvie / killer / Sea
Tossgirl doesn't make tons of sense, but SSak is active and Bisu...well the novelty is enough to make it cool. Not to mention Bisu was well ahead of most of the other Afreeca guys in terms of skill. I guess it depends on how rusty he is, but even with some rust he still might be ok to go.
On August 06 2013 01:40 StarStruck wrote: About time we see Bisu playing BW again.
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Bisu went back to BW full-time, the way Sea did.
Rumor is that a lot of the good-at-BW-but-bad-at-SC2 KeSPA players are going to get cut in October (when KeSPA teams are allowed to poach from eSF teams to replace them), so we might see a big injection of talent in BW by the end of the year.
I think BW, which has been pretty active for a "dead" game already, is going to make a bit of resurgence soon.
Makes me think, in their free time dont they ever just go "hey wanna play some bw" (not that they have much free time, but i could see that happening) Plus even with rusty bisu i think hes going to destory everyone. :D yay bisu tho i do want bisu to stay with SKT even tho he use to be mbc the SKT is just really fitting idk lol.
There have been a lot of show matches arranged by FBL between Korean ex-pros and Chinese players. Movie and Beast, in particular, have gone a ton of them, Beast mostly doing them for free and for fun. Sea recently played showmatch games against JayStar. AFAIK, Movie and Beast are on Chinese teams playing in the Chinese version of SPL.

Considering they don't have to be worry about training as hard? That doesn't shock me.
hmm but I heard that Larvae has been playing a ton of games and Bisu hasn't played in a long time making me think that Larvae should have gotten a lot better against a rusty Bisu. I guess if he really loves the game though, he'll only be a bit rusty lol.
Poor sSak he's worth more than that but he doesn't have the star power. Needs a few SRT titles and a SSL under his belt to boost future pay checks. Watching Bisu play, especially in FPV would be amazing. Actually it would be more than amazing, I would cream my pants.

Wow, this is big news!! Also, I never knew Bisu played Larva!! We have to make a thread every time such important event is happening on a stream.
I thought to share that Jangbi joined chat in Brave's stream and was talking to people, even though he didn't play a game. He said only that played with tyson account some time ago.
I agree with Hyde that it's a bit harsh on Ssak, but I'm surprised at the price for all of them really - definitely feels on the low side in general (not that I have anything to compare it to).
looking forward to this. But lol. when was the last time Bisu and Toss girl played BW? also I wonder if Toss Girl plays sc2 and what skill level she is.

Perhaps a Chinese thing? Like accomodation, food, everything is cheap there, so maybe that also reflects in the compensation?
Also, why are people saying it's cheap? In TossGirl's case I can understand since she's physically going somewhere, but Bisu is only playing online right? So he's being paid $650 to go on his computer and play a single Bo5 which will likely be a 3-0 in an hour. I wish I was paid $650/hour :/

i can't believe how good bisu still is, maybe we have found the reason why he is bad at sc2. he's been secretly playing broodwar! that corsair and zealot control were amazing
BoxeR eventually decided to transition over to StarCraft II, a decision that was made public in October 2010.[1] He acquired amateur status from KeSPA meaning he will not be able to return to StarCraft 1 pro-gaming for up to three years.[2]

this was when kespa ran broodwar and when SPL played broodwar, boxer left kespar ran broodwar for sc2 and was banned from playing kespa ran broodwar for said 3 years. now kespa runs sc2 and no-one runs broodwar. theres no goverment body governing broodwar at the moment as far as i can tell so there are no sanctions.

Enh. They're entitled to what they can get (I imagine SKT1 is paying Bisu a lot less now, too). I imagine there are a lot of former BW A-teamers going "Wait, I can charge how much an hour to play BW?!". Even if most of them can only get 10% of that, that's still $60/hr. I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen Jaedong do something like this. (If anything, I'd imagine EG would be encouraging him)
There being money in it is what makes "A lot of former BW A-teamers quit KeSPA and go back to BW" an actual possible thing that can happen, instead of a pipe dream.
I think we're in a bit of a Silver Age of Brood War now, where it's back on the upswing, and there are a lot of soon-to-be-unemployed former BW pros. We're in exciting times!
Maybe. But there's a lot of BW pros that have been endlessly delaying their military duty. A retirement might just see them disappear for a couple years anyways
I hope this doesn't signal the end of Bisu's career, his results in HotS have been improving and it seems like it's only his mindset that's holding him back. I know he's not a top priority for SKT1 but I'm still hoping he hits his stride in SC2.

i wholeheartly agree with your statement. Broodwar today has a slight upswing that is a result of HOTS falling behind expectation and Sonic doing a huge job to attract more people to BW again. If players that dont do well currently in Kespa rotate out at the end of the contracts that will come soon, there might be potential for a big influx of known players in SOSPA tournaments!

We don't really know, the Chinese OP only says it needs help sponsoring the event and that money can be send by purchasing the tickets on the store.

Pretty much everyone who has played BW has ended up quitting. The rest are either on vacation or practicing SC2 as to not get behind.
hello guys I'm introducted to this forum by other guys from SCNTV forum.
here is a short update:
for the match of Ssak, someone already sponsored the match anonymously with CNY1,000. Ssak will play a BO 5 match with the 1st Protoss in China (player ID: Zhanhun) this friday evening Chinese local time ( detailed time is still not fixed yet). the winner of each set will get CNY200, in total the bonus are CNY1,000.
regarding the match of Tossgirl and Bisu with Chinese player, it is still not arranged due to lack of money....
someone want to sponser Tossgirl play with the former famous Chinese player F91 (Zerg user, lost the match VS Tossgirl several years ago during Tossgirl's tour to China), until now no response from F91.......
Strange that SKT T1 is allowing Bisu to play a different game for money, when he has a contract and salary to (supposedly) play sc2. Not that I have a problem with that, but it looks strange that Kespa/SKT is allowing that (unless they don't care about him anymore and will be releasing him soon, maybe?)

I do. I would rather watch Bisu periodically play BW then be on a SC2 team and play every game. I love SKT1 and wish them the best, but Bisu's talent is wasted playing protoss in SC2.

im beyond wishing players luck in sc2 of whom i am a fan off. The game is so pointless anyway. The more players that drop sc2, the more can come back to BW. That's my take on it.

cmon, aren't you being just a bit harsh?
On topic, I think it would be nice to see Flash, Jaedong, Jangbi etc... playing BW. There was something about seeing such a large army controlled with 5-6 control groups and all stimming, retreating, etc... at once or so many storms over a huge amount of tanks etc... Sad part is, I missed most of it aside from end of PL ><

I know where you're coming from, but it saddens me to see Flash and Jaedong steamroll ahead in SC2 while Bisu is forgotten about. From his interviews it seems like he just lacks confidence, so I hope he can get over those mental obstacles and become a dominant force like his old rivals again. If that doesn't work out though then I'd rather seem him play BW than anything else.
People here complaining about how "cheap" Bisu is. But don't forget he'll be playing a game he was (or maybe still is) very fond of and he don't have to train hard to play this ShowMatch. So maybe in this event fun>money for Bisu.

I really hope all the players I loved from BW still go strong in SC2 just cuz theyre awesome, but when they decide they're done with SC2 in their own time I really hope that they'll come back the the game which forged them, and hopefully they have many years worth of good memories of. c:

Probably too late for that. KT Rolster is supposedly dropping about half their players. (And before anyone asks, Flash was MVP this year, so he probably made the cut). Presumably, every good SC2 player on an ESF team is going to be snapped up by KeSPA teams, and then we'll have 9 SC2 teams in Korea (The 8 BW teams minus ACE and plus IM and Startale), and a lot of unemployed people who are really good at BW.
Bisu is probably facing a big pay cut from his BW glory, but he could maybe stay an SC2 player if he wanted to....which is a big if. Stork, however, fucking sucks at SC2 (he has a 13% win rate!), and also has been one of the most vocal about not liking SC2. I'd be surprised if Stork didn't go back to BW, if he can make hundreds of dollars an hour at it. He's the biggest "name" I'd give good odds to returning to BW.
You really think Stork could make hundreds of dollars an hour from streaming? I don't know man. I hope a lot of these guys are doing something else on the side (hopefully!). I have a hard time believing these guys are making a living off of BW now afreeca or not.

best thing we can do is supporting the korean scene. If Sonic continues to work up his production/size with casters, better stream decent finals etc more people will come to BW. This grants a bigger price pool and generally more money influx/ at some point even sponsoring. And on the long run, the aim has to be to make BW attractive again to sponors, thats where the money always came from.
So, preach the gospel, spread the word, tell your clanmates from past days, reactivate who you can. Thats what we can do besides producing fan content, which is important too.
Don't get me wrong im in for supporting a showmatch or something from time to time, but in the long run it wont be sustainable. But it seems like Afreeca is the way to go today.

They are definitely allowed to do so. Not sure it would end any better than the Blizzard vs. Kespa wars though.
This already happened because Sonic forgot to research/pay the tourney fee for prize pools > than like $5000. In fact it probably gave him more viewers because of the drama of it happening right before SSL6(?)
This always seems to happen with Chinese events. We hear about some cool event, there is some nice hype for it...and then it is forgotten. Or best case scenario is we get to here some results, like what happened with Ssak and Jaystar. That's not bad, but that match easily could have had a nice LR thread with everyone watching live.

Manpower is missing, no coverage, no reliable streams, that's what happens unfortunately.

you can watch the games on youku if your interested. i did that and jaystar vs ssak was greatly entertaining. But ofc your point is valid, there is not enough manpower/ information to do a good coverage on the chinese scene.

Or best case scenario is we get to here some results, like what happened with Ssak and Jaystar. That's not bad, but that match easily could have had a nice LR thread with everyone watching live.
Manpower is missing, no coverage, no reliable streams, that's what happens unfortunately.
Yea, maybe it's just a lack of people that know Chinese and if you aren't skimming the sites daily you can miss stuff.
Yea, I figure that is part of the issue. Maybe it's related, but it seems like often no one knows about it at all though, as someone always seems to say oh I would have put up a LR thread if I had known this was occurring. I personally didn't even realize the match had been scheduled (I think someone mentioned it once in the thread but it got swallowed up).
I don't know situation with CN streams. Are they just laggy/inconsistent and/or not consolidated the way Sonic and to a lesser extent Afreeca in general is?

I haven't had the interest to delve deep into what it's all about. But imagine SOSPA without snipealot's streams, it wouldn't be nearly as huge to us. What's missing is someone regularly checking the chinese sites, making LR's, making events for the TL Calendar etc. None has done that like what ArvickHero, snipealot, and now I have done.
The biggest problem is reliable (re)streams. LR, Calendar Events, TLPD, Liquibets, write-ups could all come if there was a reliable and consistent way to watch Chinese events like we can watch SOSPA events thanks to snipealot (btw, snipealot tried restreaming some of the Chinese events, but it was still buffering constantly).

Ah okay, makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
Now we just gotta get Chinese BW scene to make reliable international stream :D

Also part of the problem is there is not a well organized website like teamliquid for Chinese bw. There are multiple fractions and they all want to do their own thing. Events are posted only very last minute, and are constantly subject to changes (I.e. not very professional).
Then there is also the lag issue...... Chinese streams mostly cater only to Chinese audience, so anyone outside of he Chinese firewall will experience lag.

Stream lag has gotten better the past 1-2 years. I watch a lot of Chinese Dota streams and they are for the most part lag-free now.

Yeah, I meant fengyun. Most chinese dota streams use that now.

I don't think that the showmatch vs Tossgirl was confirmed. I check the playsc.net website quite often, and although it's terribly organized (pretty much all the threads categories are merged together, you can use sorts of tags to filter the threads, but most of them are not tagged properly...), I couldn't find any update on this.
Also the FBL store that was used to receive donation is not selling any "donation ticket" so it looks like fund raising for this event is also over.
As for finding Tossgirl in Shanghai, I already did it twice :p
