The only reason to do it is to slowly introduce the BW Purists to a new game slowly. Hey, buying and trying the game for $60 and watching MLG several times don't count as "introducing ... a new game slowly"? When I see you guys complain it feels like you believe 'BW Purists' pop out of the ground nowhere with hatred of SC2. News flash, there are some brood war players who actually like SC2 and play both games. Why don't you wait for the metagame to develop better so that more people will like the game that way instead of trying to brainwash us forcibly? I am talking about inside korea ... which is where this change it going to be happening ... way to over react -.-; News flash, who do you think were the first people to play sc2 beta? Yes it's the 'BW purists' both inside and outside korea. This is not a matter of introducing us to sc2, we've already been acquainted. Forcibly reintroducing us or 'them' being the ones in Korea isn't going to make a spot of difference no matter how slow you do it. I never said it was a good idea. I said I THOUGHT (past tense) about it and it was probably the only good way to get people to switch. Meaning when it was released I thought it was a good idea. Now it is a stupid one and there is no reason to do it. They need to either run two separate events (preferred) or full switch(not preferred) Also think you are wrong about inside Korea switching but meh that's just my opinion.

I can´t see this pleasing anyone. Not SC2 fans, not BW fans.
What are they thinking?

Lol, this makes no sense at all.

What the fuck this is dumb as hell, I do not believe that the proleague teams have SC2 players on par with GSL players and the SC2 teams don't even have active BW players.
I refuse to believe this is true.

What are they thinking? It's simple, they weren't.

I stand by my last line. Better off to wait for Blizzard to release the expansion and market that right.
Koreans aren't playing the game at PCBangs for several reasons. The honeymoon is over and a lot of them did try it. Hell, Blizzard's smear campaign was all over the place not to mention the price points per market didn't help the situation especially in Korea. It's really not viable for the PCBangs and the consumers don't want to. It's very inconvenient and the gamebase is always changing. Right now its all about MOBA/F2P MMOS.
In fact, many of them don't even still play BW like they did in the past. There's a reason why we call it a spectator sport because there are many who don't even play anymore but still watch. INCLUDING KOREANS.

It's play rate in internet cafes or the fan response for the professional tournaments is really lukewarm at best. These are facts. No matter what SC2 fans may think, this is the reality. SC2 just doesn't deliver as a spectator sport. And now they are trying to cram BW and SC2 together in order to scrape as much viewership from the bottom of the bucket. It's just fucking idiotic.
They must have all agreed that SC2 is total shit as a spectator sport because they are trying to combine SC2 and BW. Did they think they were going to attract viewership from BW fans by sprinkling in BW games? It's like putting lipstick on a pig and expecting it to win a beauty contest. White horse, are you from korea? I really want to believe what you are saying about the SC2 not catch in on in korea (I love BW to death, could care less about sc2), but I really am not sure if your right. If you are from korea/know korea well, what are GSL attendence rates, and how do they compare to BW, etc. Can you explain some of this stuff? Thanks! Also, this idea seems really strange at best... will flash be playing both games then?
I don't have statistics. But I read the article posted in OP and I have also read other articles about korean esports and this article and those other ones generally point out that SC2 hasn't caught on much as people expected it to. SC2 should have been bigger than BW given the hype and the preparation for it. Even the kartrider and the special forces leagues are humming along at a nice pace. I do know that in broadcasted SC2 games, the spectator seats are a lot less filled than the BW matches, and many of the people that are onsite are foreigners rather than koreans. In BW matches, the OGN studio is basically crammed full to the point where there aren't enough seats available.
They really should run two separate tournaments if OGN wants to to broadcast SC2 leagues on TV. Making a tournament with two different games is going to make both communities unhappy. They are forcing them to hold hands. This is like the NFL deciding to host a baseball game at halftime in the middle of the super bowl in order to get more TV viewership from baseball fans. Can you see how ridiculous this is?

That's offensive to baseball. It's more like if every NFL game switched over to arena football after halftime for every regular season game.

As a GSL watcher it does appear that SC2 in on the upswing in Korea. Live crowds for Code S are pretty packed and the audiences for the finals seems like it's getting better as well. I think if OGN did a separate SC2 league and invited the top SC2 players it could do well for them.
But this BW/SC2 hybrid business sounds terrible.

well, even though I dont agree on this format this obviously is never going to happen since the teams will actually know what game is played on the ace match. I love both games but really, you should simply have 2 leagues as long as enough people watch.

lol yeah that isn't going to happen it's not like they pick at random "ok first map flash vs jaedong heads for brood war tails for starcraft 2". That would be kinda funny i'll admit but yeah teams are going to know what matches will be sc2/bw .

yeah, what a transition. They can't make ppl like SC2, so they decide to mix it up a little. The only thing I see, is that the end of BW is at the doors
|
Actually, if you think a little, just imagine how unticlimatic and weak will look SC2 matches after BW show)))

I guess they weren't confident of making the complete switch right away.

even tho i haven't played bw since like 2001 i still like to watch it and i allso like watching sc2 but i don't think those 2 should be mixed. would love separate sc2 league tho. definetly understand why those who only watch/play bw don't like sc2 but there is no need to shit on the game.
|
I actually would love that. It would kind of educate both fans on the other game. I think BW currently is more fun to watch, but I still like SC2. I'd totally watch that.

Let's be honest, there are only a dozen or so dedicated SC2 players that I'd rather watch than a top tier BW player like Flash, Jaedong, Bisu, etc...
|
What the,,, is there anybody who things this is a good idea? Have they bothered asking the fans before starting to plan something like this (talking about both sc and sc2 fans)
