I really think this will affect BW negatively if it were to happen. It can't do anything but divert more attention and fans from BW to SC2. I just hope that its affect on the BW scene will be minimal if it goes through. Broodwar had its time. The game lived much longer than anyone could imagine. If the Kespa cares about business, it is only logical to transistion eventually. Hi in case you noticed SC2 is not doing well in Korea. Not yet, which is understandable as most top pro gamers still play Broodwar. It's the players who bring the skill and excitement.
BW pro gamers have no reason to switch yet and it's not because they switch that the fans will follow them.

Or something like that.

is it not possible for GSL and the new proleague to coexist? I mean, as it is, GSL is not a huge time commitment anyway.

I honestly think BarCraft is a bad move for Blizzard. Sponsor will become wary when you tries to associate their image to alcohol drinking. Yes I know there are non alcoholic drinks in bars, but when you see a bunch of young people shouting and cheering in a bar, I doubt many people will think: "hmm, maybe they are drinking orange juice".

Yeah cause its not like you mix drinks with orange juice/coke and what ever.. And beverage sponsors are kinda small in general..
I agree!

Lol, so you're saying you dont see it becoming an entertaining sport cuz you dont like the design of some units? Well i must say, i think the scout on bw sucked ass, same with queen and valky, and that didnt stop bw from becoming huge. Your point is ridiculous. I doubt SC2 will be huge in Korea. BW takes 10x more skill than SC2 and people are use to watching high level play. Its troll-bait posts like these that get SC2 fanboys making their own troll posts. If you don't want to deal with SC2 crap, don't go throwing out fighting words like this. Part of me thinks there is a part of BW forum community that actually likes these kinds of fights.....
Probably.
It's a shame some of us BW guys go and post crap like that. Oh well, seems like some people on both sides just can't spot this awful flaming and trolling nonsense.
Really hope we eventually reach a point where everyone from the BW community stops feeling so threatened by SC2 and the sc2 fanboys also stop feeling the need to throw random jibes at the BW community.
I really do believe these games can co-exist side by side with each one benefiting the other.

Why should sponsors bother, if the fans of a sport are drinking alcohol while watching or not. You might not get sponsored by companies that condemn alcohol, but if you look at other major sports, like soccer in Europe or Formula 1, you can see that they are getting sponsored by every company possible, no matter if alcohol is involved or not. The whole Barcraft thing is oriented towards a comparison to Sports Bars. Starcraft 2 is designed as a eSport and fans of sports are usually drinking a beer or two while shouting at the screen to cheer on their favorite player.
On the whole SC2 in PL thing, nobody ever said, that BW would be replaced by SC2. PL could just become a mixed game format, where teams are competing in BW and SC2. That would keep BW present and alive and expose SC2 to a bigger crowd.

Exactly, BW is not as visually appealing as SC2, just from a modern graphical standpoint, it just looks old, awesome but old. SC2 can draw in people wiht fancy explosions, show them how awesome and hard strategy and multitasking is and then push them into BW where their jaw will just melt :D

Not yet, which is understandable as most top pro gamers still play Broodwar. It's the players who bring the skill and excitement. You definitely got a point; good players make the game more exciting. But many of the flaws of SC2 exist due to the game design itself. Obviously, we haven’t seen what amazing players can do in SC2 yet and I’m positive that the game play will become more exiting in the future. But given the design of the game, I find it hard to believe that a S-class BW player somehow would improve the game to a whole new level. Trough the many limitations of BW, there is an endless amount of tasks that a progamer can excel in. Paradoxically, the streamlined design of SC2 acts more like a limit for the truly skilled players. I mean, it wouldn’t be that exciting to see Jangbi filling a screen with clutch storm when pretty much any progamer can do the same.
The game may or may not be improved with the expansions but the fact that Blizzard is hell-bent on removing techniques that “was not intended in the game” doesn’t bode well. I much prefer a game that evolves trough innovative play, rather than by patches.

I'm pretty sure that adults drinking alcohol is socially acceptable, and non controversial. I don't think sponsors care, it isn't like anti alcohol activists have any interest in gaming at all.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand this correctly. By e-Sports you mean Brood War only right? And why do you write e-Sports then? He's defining KeSPA. He means e-Sports, and he's correct. How do they govern SC2 if it's Gretech (gom) who run SC2? KeSPA is an agency that governs eSports in Korea through progamer licences and through the tournaments it organizes. Kart Rider, Special Forces and Brood War are the most popular ones that KeSPA is responsible for. SC2 players don't have progamer licences, and are not associated with KeSPA yet. You are confusing the phenomenon of SC2 with a more national approach towards gaming that Korea has taken. They are different, but might be merged, such as this thread suggests.
Thank you!
Finally a clear answer.

Meh so long as the games are shown either before or after the bw, I'm not too fussed about it.
I will rage if they thread games between games of bw though, that would be like an extra long ad break, except with less interesting ads ><

I hope Bisu, Flash and JaeDong switching to SC2 soon, they'd make so much money with their skill

I expect a lot of them will disband. As teams, the current practice methods simply cannot match the Koreans. I wouldn't say that would be the case, since now, there is an actual scene with alot of money on the line outside Korea, so it still may be profitable for them. That's because most sc2 fans are foreign fans. Sponsor always follow the fans. Only time can tell how loyal they will be.
I guess fans probably would follow the top-level SC2 leagues, but if e-sports actually picks up a bit more steam, it's possible that casual interest will be in domestic leagues, a bit like what is happening with soccer: fans watch local leagues religiously, but hardcore fans (and the betting community) follow every major European match.
