Lol, Kiett, thanks for that post, it's interesting to hear from someone who actually goes to the games.

Nowadays, cute Korean boys are a dime a plenty, thanks to all the K-pop boy groups that began to spring up in the latter half of the decade. In some ways, SC became less mainstream due to the loss of mass fangirls to these boy groups. The current fangirls that still remain are here because they chose Starcraft progamers over K-pop (or are into both at the same time), which is pretty significant. I stood next to 4 Bisu fangirls during PL on Saturday, and every one of them were deeply absorbed in the games, even more so than I was (I admit, I spent a lot of time taking stalker pics of Bisu sitting at the bench). They cursed SoO for his poor performance, "YAH! YOONSOO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP LETTING VULTURES OWN YOU, AH FUCK," and debated among each other PvT tactics during Sun's game. It was far more than just, "oh my god Bisu let me have your babies you are so qt." They may show up on certain days to see Bisu, but they know and love this game just as much as any of you. Yeah, you're right. Fuck Starcraft, all we need is Bisu.

This question doesn't really make sense because they weren't seriously considering putting SC2 in proleague, The only thing confirmed was that teams were trying out SC2 in their practice houses.
You guys just the news halfway, got excited, jumped to conclusions, and made a thread in the SC2 forum about how everything was awesome because all the BW people were coming over to SC2 next season.

The article states that KeSPA underwent some internal restructuring earlier this month, and though they have not talked to Blizzard or Gretech about the details, they are considering an option to play both Starcraft 1 and 2 in the upcoming season. If Starcraft 2 does happen to be introduced into the Proleague, it may be introduced towards the middle of the 2011-2012 season.
Doesn't the OP explicitly state that KESPA is considering SC2 in proleague?

Doesn't the OP explicitly state that KESPA is considering SC2 in proleague? They could consider going to the Mars, it all boils down to reality of this goal. GOM TV has 2 or 3 years exclusive broadcasting rights of SC2 in Korea, starting from launch of SC2. It's pretty resonable to assume that the contract for broadcasting goes both ways, so Blizzard can't just turn to the next guy, sell him TV rights and blow GOM TV off. KESPA simply could not have done it, period.

Fuck, why is this bumped? No sc2 in this PL season. Done. And fuck yeah~BW proleague is back again!

It's pretty resonable to assume that the contract for broadcasting goes both ways, so Blizzard can't just turn to the next guy, sell him TV rights and blow GOM TV off. KESPA simply could not have done it, period. This doesn't really matter. I don't understand why some of you guys put so much emphasis on this exclusivity thing. All it really does is make anyone who wants a sub license to broadcast SC2 go through GOM instead of Blizzard. They'd have to go through someone either way for SC2, it's just GOM who takes care of that now for big daddy Blizzard. OGN had no problem getting a sublicense to broadcast SC2 for WCG and if KeSPA does plan on incorporating it somehow the groundwork is already there. Don't forget it's also OGN broadcasting the PL.
Anyway, the OP still isn't wrong, and really none of us have any details about the 2nd half of the PL season or even why they split it in halves in the first place. (Unless I missed the reasoning in the other thread) The article in the OP came out before we even knew the PL season was being split in half, and seeing as it already mentioned possible changes mid-season combined with all the team houses upgrading their gear despite BW playing better on CRT monitors, one can't possibly rule out the option of having 2 games for 2 halves of the PL season.
Yet still, there hasn't been any new information regarding SC2 in PL and there probably won't be until the very last minute if indeed they decide to incorporate it. KeSPA always waits until the very last minute regardless of any rumors to announce things.
As a final thought I think this needs to be re-emphasized since so many people are missing it. From the OP:
The article states that KeSPA underwent some internal restructuring earlier this month, and though they have not talked to Blizzard or Gretech about the details, they are considering an option to play both Starcraft 1 and 2 in the upcoming season. If Starcraft 2 does happen to be introduced into the Proleague, it may be introduced towards the middle of the 2011-2012 season.
The article also states Pro-gaming teams are starting to think more realistically about Starcraft II, upgrading their computers to be more suitable for Starcraft II, and also testing Starcraft II internally.

I wished people looked at this subject more objectively. Kespa is considering SC2 for Proleague. Stop saying they aren't. Whether it comes to fruition is another story.
|
Let this thread die.
Half year from now we come back to this, until then Proleague continues sacred and free of bad games.

Fuck yeah BW proleague.
That said an SC2 Proleague with the current BW teams playing would be awful. Perhaps in KeSPA and GOM could come to an agreement (if that is even possible considering I think Blizzard has the true final say) that the current SC2 teams would make up the SC2 proleague instead. THAT would be amazing. I could watch CJ vs Ace and then IM vs OGs, with proper proleauge format (well, perhaps not this seasons format T_T) yes that is something I would get behind. However almost forcing the established teams to all switch over to SC2 would hurt both games; BW players would not be able to give the 100% focus needed to stay at the highest level of play and almost instantly, SC2 Korean teams would become absolutely irrelevant and probably end up disbanding with the exception of one or two.
But tis only rumours and KeSPA never has been one to properly inform foreign fans on what the hell is going on, so speculation is all we can do.

Well no SC2 proleague means the current batch of SC1 pros get to keep their jobs :p
In any case, I do like the decision to keep proleague BW, at least for this year. SC2 is gonna get a lot more volatile with the expansion, and I have my doubts on the overall changes in HoTS.
With that said, the new format for proleague (or should I say reversion?) is somewhat disappointing, but it does sound like it was a "player's association" decision, i.e. Kespa finally living up to its name. Or maybe it's Kespa's way of stopping KT's dominance.

That doesn't make sense to me. The teams would probably go where the money is rather then let the team die for some fan biased reason. If SC2 proved stable enough financially and in a metagame sense, they would at least host a branch team.
Having a branch team isn't the same as SC2 proleague. WeMade Fox had a counter strike team. A lot of the other teams had Warcraft 3 players. That didn't mean that there was a counter strike or warcraft 3 proleague. However the proleague site has Special Forces, Brood War, and another game which is still unknown. http://www.e-sports.or.kr/ I was talking about Ribbon's response about how BW players playing SC2 means BW teams won't change. The teams may form a branch to play in the GSL or abroad if the money is right. The money isn't right, because none of it's in Korea. The BW sponsors would be getting into a field where the vast majority of their audience is literally incapable of buying their product. Show nested quote +And purely from a logistical stand point, KeSPA has a huge BW history and Starcraft experience in general, so again...if the money is there, SC2 would make more sense and probably cost them less then changing to a completely different game/genre. Cutting through the fan-bias, this organizations do not care about the SC2 vs BW essays that fans write. Only if it makes business sense to incorporate it given their current resources. Also, legalities with Gretech and KeSPA apply. The thing is, BW makes a lot of fucking money in Korea. A lot more than SC2 does or will in the near future. Compare the crowd of the Proleague opening to the crowd of, say, the GSL Semifinals. BW fans vastly outnumber SC2 fans in Korea. And while it's true that an uncomfortably large number of them are fangirls who just like Bisu cause he's cute, then that's all the more reason to not fix what isn't broken, and BW isn't broken. It boomed. And then it shrank back a little. That just happens. It doesn't mean BW is dead. It will happen, and I guarantee you, that sooner or later the rapid growth of SC2 will stop and fall back a bit to a "normal" state, which'll cause some teams to fail because they weren't prepared. 100% guarantee. And then everyone will freak out that SC2 is dying and a lot of BW fans will feel smug, but saying SC2 is dying then will be just as silly as saying BW is dying now. It's not.
I think you are being a bit overly defensive and jumping to conclusions.
I never said KeSPA will drop BW, burn the hard drives and sacrifice the bonjwas to light of SC2. I am saying that they may see growth opportunities at home and abroad that BW can not fulfill for them right now. So allowing or attempting to support an SC2 initiative to bring these staple BW teams in some form to the SC2 front to try and expand the audience for KeSPA related content is possible. And perhaps they would piggy back some kind of BW support or advertising along with the SC2 push in order to bring attention back on what they are known for.
KeSPA is a business with a LOT of SC experience. They are also in some financial trouble in terms of stability as well as in terms of public mind share. It would NOT be unreasonable to think they would try to supplement their business by tapping into the current SC2 popularity and success. And pending SC2's development, could end up running a kind of dual-game organization, with two separate tournaments for BW and SC2. Thus, they could transition forward or backward between the games later on pending the relative success or decline of either one.
