already did that when i started with bw so its definitely not so hard T_T btw muhweli, ur way is obviously slower, because the second scv is the one that counts (all other scvs depend on that one) and therefore the 7th load of mins counts ==> it is really important, to move ur scvs as fast as possible! as long as your first scv is finished when u get 50mins, it doesnt matter at all how late that one comes (well, not really, but the difference is irrelevant ^^). btw i cant remember a single game that ended before the first buildings were being built where i didnt have the highest score ~~

8 e-sports filled years since i learned of TL from gg.net I somehow vaguely remember this thread and back then i was lurking TL when someone on gg.net linked something here. Thank you sooo much for the bump, since i have horrible memory i always wondered when i started my interest with SC and TL, so i suppose it was around 2002-2003 so awesome

Assume that splitting takes 2 seconds, and making a worker takes 1 second. (It's less, but bear with me for simplification) If you make a worker first, your four workers are not mining for an extra second each. So assuming you split them well enough that you don't have to wait for 50 minerals for a 7th worker, you lose four seconds of mining time. However, if you split them first, your first worker is delayed by 2 seconds. So is your second. And third. So essentially, every worker you make has 2 seconds less time mining than it should, which very quickly adds up to be more than 4 seconds of mining time lost. Yeah, I probably think too much.

Not quite, if you are playing Zerg, the second worker does not depend on when the first finished but on whether you have 50 minerals or not, so if you are playing zerg it is better to start mining, then make a worker

No only zerg can make multiple workers simultaneously at the start -_-

Jinro's 2003 approach (grab-->send-->build-->split) seems clearly superior to me.

Jinro's 2003 approach (grab-->send-->build-->split) seems clearly superior to me. the sixth scv is help up by minerals while the 7th and 8th by production. I'm not arguing for or against either method, it's hard to say, also need to account for the fact that with Jinro's method you lose splitting time, hence the split will be a bit worse.

The first worker isn't the most crucial one. What the people here are talking about is the second worker. Usually you should be able to make a 7th one before the 6th one comes out because with proper splitting, the you should have gathered 50 minerals before the 6th one comes out
