Poll: Do you use Return Cargo? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No
Something that always irritate me when watching starleague vods is all the pros, such as rA, never uses the return cargo command. It's very convenient for when you are maynarding peons to a new expansion or defending against lings.
For those that doesn't use it or know what it is, return cargo is a command for peons that can be used when your peons is doing anything else but mining.
Given a situation such as 3 lings is in your base, trying hit-and-run tactics and taking shots at your Probes. You'd would do the typical clump in mineral/gas and attack command.
Once the lings retreat, it's a lot more efficient to drag a box over those probes and hit "C", than just right-click them on a clump of mineral. The Probes that has a mineral clump on their hands will return it to the your closest Nexus first, before going back to the mineral line. The probes without one simply head back to the mineral line without making a trip to your local Nexus.

i don't even know wtf it is.

wow, let me hightlight why it's a good command then.

Always. Whenever I'm maynarding and nexus/cc/hatch isn't done yet and peons are coming back to main, always use C

I use it occasionally. but not particulary often.

Thanks for bringing this up, I'd like to add a little tip, when you are like protoss on 6 and it's wicked hard to get the probe to the mineral because you end up grabbing like 2 or 3 bc they are bringing back to nexus, you can make a box aeround the probe (and geto thero nes too), and then shift click on mineral, and tha'tll make only that one go to the mineral.
I'll have to try that return cargo thing, it sounds really intersting and helpful. The only time I really use return cargo is when I am floating down a cc to my expo and i send my scvs too early and many of them are on route back to the cc and I highlight those ones and press c, making them see that the cc has landed and return minerals.
Also I use it in 13/15/21 trix ^^

doesn't SEEM too useful to me
|
everytime i used return cargo it would lag my peons momentarily so i just stopped using it all together
|
yep.. whenever someone tries to peon harass a worker of mine with minerals
|
I prolly use it more often than most people I know. Most people don't even know about this command. H_Paul_WII was telling me at lan that he just learned about it the week prior. Imagine that...
but ya it is useful for when probes return monies before nex is done and I use it in timing with my first pylon too because the way I split my end probes return money around the time I get my first 100 mins.

Use it ALL the time.
Mostly when I'm maynarding drones to natural early game when it just finishes, if it didn't finish yet, and drones are moving towards my main hatch, Í'll keep them around my natural exp, when it finishes, I select the drones and press C ;O
Oh and when fending of scv harassing my drones early game, and I select a drone that just got a mineral block, I'll tell it to return cargo when the scv backs off.
|
i use it in most of my games. i like to use it when i select 2 scvs (and one has minerals) on accident to build something, when i only meant to select one, then i'll hit C and then i'll click the scv with no minerals to go build something. maybe that sounds long but it rly only takes a second.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is "maynarding"?
|
Solar, its when you have an expo just finishing, and in order to make ur macro more efficeint, you transfer peons to the expo, most of the top players, go ahead and split them while their on their way, like 2 a clump or so. Its just 'to transfer'. Named after Maynard, who posts here occasionally, guess he was the first big player to think of it, i dunno.

oh, and no i never heard of this command
|
it is amazing how you people have never heard of it.... its a button on the command console havent any of you been curious about what it is?
|
6yrs playing bw, and i never once looked. Ive still never mc'ed a peon and used it as toss and ive never used feedback, ever Thats prolly the only possible down size with bw, there is only so far you can venture from the 'norm' and still be in contention for winning. Unless you course you do crazy cool stuff that slows ur opponent down alot. Like the medic blind/wraith builds.

How is it one say: Curiosity killed the cat?
Hence never take chances by pressing buttons with unknown function, one day that button will trigger a nuke... in your base.
