Well, first of all, what they are involved with is "illegal gambling." Whether or not they threw games to make money is a different and more touchy matter.
If they bet on themselves or were involved with side betting on players other than themselves, then my understanding is that they were still breaking the law, but on the level of whether I personally think that doing such a thing is right or wrong I have nothing against it. Certainly if you bet money on yourself then you must be confident.
However throwing games to guarantee you turn a profit is something else. Words like despicable and dastardly come to mind.
It's easily possible that most of those gamers might have been involved in side betting. I'd like to think that they weren't throwing games. For certain particular players it definitely seems like they probably did throw games.
