MSL Final to be not-quite "live," and fanclub only - Page 9

I'm not gonna get too mad about this since it seems MBC is low on cash. I am disappointed, because "a bunch of people waving flags around" is what elevates a final from everything else. I'm still not upset about the Flash pop-up. We'll just have to see how it goes, hopefully they go for the gusto and put both players in front of green screens so that Jaedong looks like he's in some Zerg building and Flash is in a cattlebruiser.

Sorry man, but I have to say, that seems to me like it is cheesy as fuck and I hope to god they don't do something like that. I like to think of sc as an e-sport and not like e-proffesional wrestling

Ugh, way to make a complete joke of the finals. Like fucking 80% of the energy in the finals come from the presence of the massive, cheering crowd. Putting the players in a different room? Wtf. I can't imagine how it's gonna be for the winner, just coming out of his booth all triumphant only to be greeted by....what, MBC staff members?

So stupid.

I guess MBC doesn't even have enough money for a proper finals. How sad.

Exactly. Everyone is raging out that they didn't rent out a stadium and not charge an entry fee. What do you want them to do? They don't have money and they can't get money (we saw what happened when they charged for a final) so this is the only option.

BTW, I am very curious about this one. Which final was it and what exactly was the result?

I think people may be willing to pay for a Jaedong v.s. Flash final lol, but that wouldn't help Starcraft's popularity in the long term, definitely not in this economy.

Seems ridiculous. Any chance they're going to change their mind?

The whole situation is just sad.

Why couldn't Jaedong and Flash be on different sides of the OSL bracket.
According to Reach, he is the fastest learner he has ever seen. He start bw only like 2/3 years ago. Infact, his bw history knowledge is so limited, he didn't even know what the map Guillotine was.

Sure the pizazz of a final-worthy crowd is nice, but I honestly wouldn't care if they played from their practice houses. I want to watch Flash vs. Jaedong, not a bunch of people waving flags around.

The people waving a bunch of flags around is part of what makes it an event. Without the venue and without the spectacle, it might as well be a game on Battle.net or a replay that you sit by yourself and watch. When it comes to competitions, the atmosphere is most certainly one of the integral elements that makes the difference between an emotional experience and an academic study. If they decided to have the Red Sox and Yankees play out the World Series in a separate stadium without a crowd, it would still be the Red Sox vs. the Yankees, but it wouldn't differentiate the World Series from a regular season game. And if they did decide to do that, baseball would lose a tremendous amount of fans and the sport itself would subsequently suffer, adversely affecting the fans that it didn't lose.

MBC has been catching enough flak from the fans with all the ridiculous stunts they've been pulling from the Flash overlay to the accusations of rigging the tournament. This is something they really don't need and the stupidity in it all is that they knew that it would upset people and they went along with it anyway. Sure, in the short term, it might keep them out of the red, but they need to look a little bit further down the road than that. They would be losing a lot of fan support, their reputation will suffer, it will be harder to find a good sponsor to support them, and in the end they'll be losing more ground to their competition. This doesn't help MBC, it does not help the fans, and it doesn't help the sport.

Having a smaller venue for the final due to lack of finances is fine in itself, but what's up with having the players play the game in a separate room and restricting the seats to people that are members of the players fan clubs rather than opening them up to the public? It's these decisions that really make no sense to me...

Yeah, no money so small venue....fine, can live with that. But for the love of god don't remove the players from the crowd. It's seriously the most fundamental mistake they could possibly make.

kespa with the random terrible decision, that's a shocker *insert sarcasm tone here*

I'd love to see that play in north america. "Oh by the way the Super Bowl will be played in an isolated place and you can come watch it on monitors outside the stadium".

I hope the players get live footage of the crowd so Flash can peek through the 'booth' for hints.

Seriously though, what a fucking horrible decision. I hope they're ready to be broadcasting the Evony MSL next.

Well, if you look at things in retrospect, MBC and OGN don't really make all that much profit from what they do. Commercial breaks seem to be rather short. They probably have to pay royalty or fees to Kespa and participating progaming teams for their work. Even a major tournament has only one sponsor that is willing to spend only limited amount of money. Even in a final, there aren't any commercial products being sold on the scene to generate extra revenue (T-shirts and food would be nice), and I do not remembering seeing any commercial banners/boards in noticeable areas that would serve as extra advertisement revenue.

To top things off, Starcraft games aren't always being played. To fill the rest of the airtime, they do reruns and other far less popular competitive games. A lot of recent leagues are all pretty disappointing, producing uninspiring games. They don't even charge for tickets.

I doubt OGN and MBC are flowing in money. There must be a lot of crap going on behind the scene.

Well i hope they have something special to show be it Jaedong vs Flash in 3D or some state of the art technology or else there is no excuse in blowing the bigest final in SC history .

maybe they can create a computer generated crowd :O

No practice game could ever be as epic as one played in front of thousands of fans on a grand stage. Maybe the games will be cleaner mechanically speaking but so much of the magic will be lost...

FUCK YOU MBCGAME

You want StarCraft to be even more far away from being recognized as a real, competitive sport?

God damn there's so much wrong with this, hang the fuckers who decided on this.

Practice is still very very different

most of the "bad play" is generated by it being the finals and not a worthless practice game, not the crowd.

edit: And what the fuck is the rationale behind doing this when its the most awaited match in YEARS? If you want to test some useless shit do it when there's a match that nobody cares about like mumyung vs pokju ffs.

It's worth mentioning that the pressure of playing in front of a huge audience for a big title is part of what makes finals great. It's all supposed to be on the line and how well the players keep their cool is a big component. So disappointing from every angle.

EDIT: How pissed are Korean netizens?

God damn im so fucking furious about this, how the fuck can you do something like this

I enjoy finals mostly because of not only the high level of game, but also because of the fact that I can see the players live struggling against their nerves and its epic to see them try their best while thousands of people are watching right there "in front of them".

Korean fanclubs should boycott mbcgame and not arrive at the finals imo., better yet burn the whole damn place.

You, and others who feel similarly, should boycott MBCGame all together and not watch the MSL Finals. It looks like you're calling something shyt and eating it at the same time.
