First of all you should post this in the Broodwar section but a mod will move it for you right now.
He is called Mantoss for his style of play, particularly PvT if I remember correctly (although he used Mantoss-esque tricks in PvZ as well). He would charge in with seemingly suicidal numbers without fear and would break contains and pushes perfectly when others would be too scared to move out. He has also always been the more handsome progamer, with a manly physique/face.

Sashin means Death God, a nickname that got latched onto him after his match against Yellow on R-Point* where he did a zealot/DT rush strategy against Zerg and made it work due to his micro. Because of the unexpected brutality of the strategy, and how effective the Dark Templar were (had many many kills), he was nicknamed Death God Toss.

Or at least that's what I think it is.
I believe that game took place on R-Point.
I didn't see the game itself but I saw the highlight of it, and Yellow's natural seemed like an LT or Python natural at 6. Don't remember R-Point that well so you might be right.
Oh young man, I could write a book on this topic but for your sake I will be concise.
Take a look back at past OSL starting groups and tell me, when there were entire tournaments with only one qualified Protoss player, who was the one holding it down?

this was in 2002 or 2001.
it all started when in OSL Reach and Garimto were the only protoss players against the then sick field of Terrans and Zergs, including yellow, boxer, jinnam, hot, chojja, sync, the marine, etc....
Garimto was a huge thing, and Reach was well ,,, some toss.... basically nobody knew who he was. at least I didn't.
The field of Ts and Zs was so powerful Garimto got clobbered 0-3 in the 1st round, leaving Reach as the only protoss in the entire tournament against 14 T and Z. Reach being well, the underdog, the who the hell is this guy, this guy is gonna get his ass handed to him, etc....
So Reach stormed all of them including Yellow (the 2nd huge favorite to win) in the Semifinals and in the finals he basically kicked Boxer's ass so badly in the finals, even winning against him in two island maps that were heavely T favored ...... I don't remember the name, was it Forbidden zone ?....anyway that was unthinkable at that time.... a P winning vs a T in an island map that is.
so well, Reach became The Man, hence Mantoss.
a bit less known, for accomplishing all of this he was also nicknamed as Herotoss.

Assuming "ridicilous" is a mix of ridiculous and delicious?

Just saying "fail" in a post is not humorous. Period. I'm not a moderator or anything, I was just giving you advice on how to lengthen your stay at TL by practicing good posting. I'm not going to kick you or whatever, and I doubt anyone else will.

The series came down to 3-2 iirc in favor of Reach, last game being on Neo Forbidden Zone. Great game.
I'm quite sure that Reach won that OSL 3-1, not 3-2. with two games on that island map.
btw just curious are you really from Angola ?
Garimto was a huge thing, and Reach was well ,,, some toss.... basically nobody knew who he was. at least I didn't.
to put it in todays context, imagine that if the OSL today would have a bunch of flash, jaedongs, fantasys, yellow amc, ....... and there were only 2 protoss: Bisu and some other guy you've never heard before.
as the OSL progresses, Bisu gets his ass handed to him 0-3, leaving the unknown guy as the only P. and he defeats Jaedong and Flash in the semifinals and finals. in Z and T heavly favoured maps.
that's pretty much what Reach did back in the day.

It's possible, I just remember the series being VERY intense so I assumed the pressure came from the fact that it was the last match. It in fact is 3-1 as you said.

Yeah, it seems like most people have forgotten the original reason he was called Mantoss and that was due to his muscular build, which is rather uncommon among progamers. His nicknames related to his gameplay are Spirit Toss (beacuse of the mass suiciding Zealots) and Shaman Toss (due to his impeccable use of Storms).

Reach also has a quote along the lines of "A true man's pride is in his Zealots" or something. Too lazy to look it up, someone will probably post it soon.

For tournaments, why are the phrases "Pride of War," "Overcome All," and "Victory after Victory" used for T, Z, and P players respectively? Are these based off Korean reporting or are they a TL tradition?

Terran take great pride in the way they turtle and use their imbalanced tanks and irradiate to win games. They have pride in their gay effective war strats.
Bisu coined the victory after victory. When he or any protoss loses its map imbalance so it can't count as a fair loss. When he wins its a victory based on how good he is therefore he never losses.
Overcome all talks about all the gay things the other 2 races have to overcome just to have a chance of beating zergs.

What are you, a moderator? You're spamming more than those posters......
Manly face, manly plays = Mantoss. And yes, muscular body (though, only relative to other progamers) helps too.
Its also because he played so manly for example of Oove domination of his macro mod nobody was able to play straight game again him because he streamed rolled everyone and Reach chalenge him in Macro games. and beated him... also because he was only P who was able to win something and also because of his MANLY storm which destroyed everything Sashin toss also because of popular Anime series Death note... this dt in game vs yellow were exactly like death god
Are you *FREAKING* kidding me? No one posted *THIS* yet?
Most epic Reach moment in my opinion.
Once I actually had a dream that Reach came to my city and gave me some cool korean iphone-like device. I know, abstract, but that was kinda cool. And yeah, it's kinda weird that I'm having dreams about progamers.
Yeah, that latter is pretty manly. I mean your playing against Oov, bomb the shit out of him, then drop 2 templars right on his army and storm it and the only thing that survives is the archon o_O

It was first used used in the 2005 SO1 OSL Opening.

That's by Garimto I think.
no it was reach im pretty sure
garimto is more like oh you disgraces to protoss hahaha
Guys - I'm pretty sure the question is referring to the origin/coinage of the nickname. The post blitzkrieg mentions is the earliest I've ever seen.

At MBC Trials I raped some terran round one. I was feeling pumped and ready for round 2 vs. Reach.
I was then walking towards him and he was walking towards me and we made eye contact, he didn't look away, neither did I. I felt the power of the mantoss. There was nothing I could do. He was Reach. I was the first one to break the eye contact. I knew what was coming.
Mother fucker raped me twice with ease.
This is one of my favorite TL posts. Yes he is a great player, but I think the nickname arose from this post.
Eugh. The stuff about zealot pride is from the 2004 EVER 3rd/4th place interview; Reach is commenting on his win on Requiem with 2gate [game 2, I think?]
a) he's not a nerd and he looks like he could break a nerd in half b) He stuck with protoss at a time when the race was considered weak c) He was famous for massing tier 1 units (zeals / goons) and neglecting higher tech units, and just rolling over his opponent with a mass of zealots and dragoons. Somehow he'd always seem to break a terran push by just 1a2a3a. I guess they consider the screw this shit lets attack anything we can find style manly, and thus the name mantoss
