Bisu should really win this OSL.

He should've won a couple of the OSLs he didn't. By the time he does it's gonna be way too far apart from his MSLs to give him any kind of reign over an era, sadly. Would've been nice to have a real Protoss king.

If everything goes according to plan, then by the Ro16 there should only be two toss left ((P)BeSt and (P)Bisu) And (T)Casy can have a fun time till he reaches either one.

Interesting facts:

* MBCGame HERO is the only team that didn't qualify a Zerg.
* This is the first OSL since So1 2005 that Zergs are the most-represented race.
* (P)IrOn doesn't have an English translation of his name in TLPD
* This is the first OSL since Shinhan 3 2006 that every team has qualified players for.

Stork should make it too, but yeah it would be epic if Casy makes it to the quarterfinals.

I'm hoping to do all the LR threads, as I'm making an attempt to watch the entire Bacchus OSL live this season. Only thing standing in my way is not knowing my exact summer work schedule (overnights or closing shift. Overnights defeats me, closing shift is no problem).

It is, but it's really not all that hard actually.

I've only stayed up for one where I had classes the next morning (Group A) and then my classes ended. Now I'm at the point where I don't have a final tomorrow or next wednesday, then I'm home and I'm working a late shift for work hopefully (4:00 PM-11:30 PM).

EDIT: On an OSL related note, we're down to a maximum of 5 Protoss onto the next round and with Shuttle in Flash's group, I'm more inclined to think it will be 4 - Bisu, BeSt (should beat Pure/type-b), BackHo and Stork (could possibly lose though **UPSET ALERT**).

I just realized that I had been using the ridiculously fail map to keep track of which OSL is which:
Ever 2007 - Persona
Bacchus 2008 - Demon's Forest
Ever 2008 - Hwarangdo
Incruit - Plasma
Batoo - Tears of the Moon

Hopefully Holy World will break the trend; the map stats so far already make it look more balanced than any of those maps, hopefully that will hold true for PvT.

Thanks for all of your work on this, GI! Just thought I'd contribute some extra info after the Week 2-1 (Day 3) results.

Possible clinching scenarios for Week 2-2:

Group A:
(Z)YellOw[ArnC] and (Z)Jaedong clinch with a win by (Z)YellOw[ArnC].
(Both (T)Flash and (Z)EffOrt would be eliminated.)

Group B:
(Z)type-b clinches with a win.
((P)BackHo would be eliminated.)

Group C:
(T)go.go clinches with a win.
((T)Hwasin would be eliminated.)

Group D: (thanks Crunchums)
(T)Leta clinches with a win by (Z)by.hero.
((Z)Kwanro would be eliminated.)

Also, here are the full scenarios for the 0-2 players to force a tiebreak:

(T)Flash:
(Z)EffOrt > (Z)YellOw[ArnC]
(Z)Jaedong > (Z)YellOw[ArnC]
(T)Flash > (Z)EffOrt

(P)BackHo:
(T)fantasy > (Z)type-b
(P)BackHo > (Z)type-b
(T)fantasy > (P)Stork

(T)Hwasin:
(Z)ZerO > (T)go.go
(Z)ZerO > (P)Bisu
(T)Hwasin > (T)go.go

Looks like Flash is going to get knocked out. Yarnc needs one more win (or Effort 2) and Flash can't make it out. The only way that he could is if Yarnc and Effort both end up 1-2, which isn't likely.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

Last OSL ro16, Leta needed by.hero to lose (to fantasy) to guarantee advancing. This OSL, Leta needs by.hero to win (vs Kwanro) to guarantee advancing. by.hero and Leta also met in the MSL at one point (Leta won, they both advanced). Rivalry?

Wow, all four Hite players could clinch in 2-2. Extremely unlikely though. But still exciting! (At least for me...)

If effort beats yellow, Jaedong could just lose to yellow auto eliminating flash O_o.

Clinch = make it impossible to not advance. If a player is guaranteed to advance but the group is still going on they haven't technically advanced yet (because the round/group isn't over), they've just clinched.

This could very well happen since Jaedong probably wouldn't practice for a match that means nothing to him. However I still see JD taking this round 3-0 as he seems to win ZvZs in his sleep.

Ya but knowing that if he throws the game he will eliminate a possible obstacle down the road might make playing shitty one game worthwhile.

I wouldn't doubt that JD will be Yarnc. The question is will Effort beat Flash?

If they match the seeds for the ro8 in the same way they did in the Batoo OSL it will look something like this

A1 vs C2 ((Z)Jaedong vs (P)Bisu is possible)
B1 vs D2 ((T)fantasy vs (T)Canata/(Z)by.hero)
C1 vs B2 ((P)Bisu vs (P)Stork?)
D1 vs A2 ((T)Leta vs ???)

The outcome is still very unclear

There was no fixed bracket for Batoo OSL. There was a drawing after the last tie breaker where a coach or a player (I forgot who) just picked lottery tickets out of boxes with the players names on it. As far as I remember, it was not fixed but random. With the exception of course that a group winner plays against a second place, and that you cannot play against the other player advancing from your group.

I think Flash really will force a tiebreaker. Flash can beat Effort (won't be easy), as long as he doesn't go for another absurd 1 fact into CC build vs a 2 hatchery build. As for Yarnc vs Jaedong, eliminating Flash by throwing the game would be the smartest idea, since JD will not lose to either zerg player in a Bo3. However, I think his competitive nature will not allow him to take a game off, and JD is likely quite confident he'll crush anyone he has to play next round, regardless of whom it may be.

But will Flash win said tiebreaker? I predict not so.

sorry if this was mentioned somewhere (I don't think in this thread though), but what will be the format for Ro8 matchups?

last OSL was

A1 vs C2
B1 vs D2
C1 vs B2
D1 vs A2

If applied here, we could potentially have...

Jaedong vs Bisu
Fantasy vs by.hero
Zero vs type-b
Leta vs Effort

The OSL Ro8 format is always decided by a random drawing. The only stipulation is that a player cannot play someone in his Ro16 group and the first place seeds cannot play themselves and the same for the second place seeds.

It makes absolutely no sense for Hwasin to lose intentionally, considering that he gets into a tiebreaker with a win.

Actually he's been doing awesome lately, just sucked in his OSL group and lost to Calm and Kal in PL. Other than that he's been steamrolling kids left and right the past 1.5 months.

Saying "probably gonna advance" is just so inexact. It's way more complicated than that. Besides, Kwanro is and has been eliminated for a while now.

(Z)ZerO and (T)Leta are locks.
(Z)Jaedong, (Z)YarnC, (T)fantasy, and (Z)type-b are guaranteed a spot in a tiebreaker at least.
(Z)hero and (T)Canata duke it out for the second place spot in their group.
(T)go.go can advance with a win, is in tiebreaker with a loss.
(T)Hwasin, (P)Stork, and (Z)EffOrt are playing for a tiebreaker spot if they win.
(P)Bisu's fate is out of his control (hoping for Hwasin to win - IRONY )
(T)Flash, (P)BackHo, and (Z)Kwanro are all eliminated, but Flash could decide if there's a tiebreaker or not.

jd yarnc and effort is not in tie breaker yet

canata and by.hero is not fighting for tie breakers, they're fighting for advance
leta qualified already

i hope bisu's insurance policy is up to date.

All his opponents played the "bo1 surprise!" card and even though Zero played really well anyway it's still a crappy way to go out.

Yeah, I can totally see Hwasin deciding that he should eliminate himself from the OSL, and letting the guy who called him Insurance during the Group Selections advance. Makes perfect sense.

(Z)YellOw[ArnC] vs (T)go.go
(T)Leta vs (Z)type-b
(T)fantasy vs (T)Canata
(Z)ZerO vs (Z)Jaedong

3 Teammate battles. Hite gauranteed for Final spot.
Alot of good potential match-ups.
Yarnc vs Leta and JD Vs Fantasy Ro4 would be awesome. Then again Flash instead of Yarnc and Bisu instead of go.go, Stork instead of type-b and Hero instead of Canata would of made this the best OSL Ro8 ever.

Looks like there could be an underdog victor here. As long as the top half of the Ro8 bring their absolute best, this could end up with a great finals rather than the victor from the bottom half 3-0ing a Hite guy.

Take out BeSt and you make it sound 100x scarier.

Edit: Jaedong's ZvZ, Bisu's PvP, and Fantasy's TvT are strong enough. Now let these 3 players practice with each other and allow them to share each other's workload (*cough* Jaedong Oz *cough*) then that would be one imbalanced team.

poor Protoss... well I don't think there will be too many mirrors. I yellows lucky OSL though, he will very likely fighting terrans the first two round, hes great at vT...and his zvz is not that bad. Expecting JD, Leta, Yellow, Fantasy... And I cant imagine a zvz final with this

Seriously Sparkyz will need outside help to practice. Not only are most of their top players in but they're all facing each other.

For anyone making crazy predictions about matchups they should/want to see, brackets for the Ro8 should look thusly:

Yarnc <> Type-b

Fantasy <> Jaedong

Zero <> Canata

Leta <> go.go

So Ro8 is Hite deathmatch central, and past that is fairly unclear with 2 teammate matchups and JD/Fantasy and Canata/Zero both being fairly close (depending on which Zero shows up). I'd say ZvZ finals are fairly unlikely, but TvT is possible if Fantasy beats Jaedong. One of Leta or Canata could certainly take down Zero, it would surprise me a little if he makes it to the finals. I'd project JD/Leta as the most likely finals scenario, but tons of things could happen.

Well they don't need Protoss practice partners for OSL, and I hear KT has a few decent Terrans and Zergs and doesn't have playoffs to worry about.

You can't even blame it on the maps, RotK is a bit T>P but that's basically it.

Fuck yeah, Leta. He's not likely to win though - he won't ever beat fantasy or Jaedong - but he should break semis at least

fantasy got this osl ezymode.
But would be awesome 1upmanship for yarnc to outdo his twin by winning osl right after luxury wins msl.

Well I actually think that no protoss will be a good thing. I personallly love watching TvZ, a huge ball of marines and medics with tons of vessels. on the other hand zerg uses just about every unit in a decent TvZ. You gotta love the battles where the Zerg uses swarm, and plague... And brings a huge army of Ultras and Lurkers. And well TvT... not the favorite match up, but I dont see why there couldnt be some epic ghosts and Battlecruisers, starcraft is good as it gets when you see 12 Battlecruisers using Yamato, right after getting locked and nuked. And well for the ZvZs, there wont be many if you ask me, but for the ones there are, hope for the best... The players got this far, they wont bring their mediocre game.

Leta just does not beat fantasy, Bisu, Jaedong, or Jangbi. He is a combined 2-13 against those players (1 win against Jangbi, 1 win against Bisu).

The ro4 bracket makes me so mad. Jaedong vs fantasy is a semifinal that was actually a final if there ever was one.
It makes the MSL's decision to have the brackets based on Kespa rankings look that much smarter. I wish the OSL had had that in place at the ro8

If SKT1 beats Oz in PL, I don't see fantasy beating Jaedong. It doesn't matter how hungry you are for revenge after a humiliating loss last OSL; Jaedong's wrath cannot be surpassed.
