I'm becoming more and more disappointed with the quality of my Canon Eos 400D's kit lens. It is absolute garbage for any decent landscape photograph
Sadly I cannot even dream of affording a better lens, well at least not until Autumn.
I'm becoming more and more lazy, and my senior highschool year is almost over. I should be working and studying harder than ever really, but I'm actually quite demotivated for some reason, I spend my whole fucking day on Team Liquid and I've become aware than I'm currently playing Starcraft better than ever. I should get to work, I have a ton of shit to prepare if I'm going to the College I want to (architecture)
Wish me luck, and sorry about the crappy photos this time.

I felt so uninspired to create a proper title, sorry for that.

what's the point of the title
|
Damn I'm on a laptop with touchpad atm, do you have any idea how much trouble I had with that title?! DO YOU!?
Jokes aside, nice pictures, I like the forest one. I've always liked that kinda forest

great pics as always
I have devised this wonderful scheme to halp you study moar:
Study ->>> College ->>> Job ->>> Money ->>>> Hookers new lens/new camera
I'll do a drawing for that if you really need one.

I just clicked on the title because it was so enticing Don't worry about high school, enjoy your last year! None of your troubles there will have any impact on college (except poor study habits haha).

Nice pics, as usual. What did you do to the water in the first one? It seems a tad bit overdone

LOL those are exactly my problems. I don't really care about high school, I feel the need to move on for a long time now, I feel that I am psychically ready and all that. It's just that this should be a crucial moment in my life, and I find myself disgustingly relaxed about it. I have to study for an exam, separate from any high school graduation ones, to be able to get into college.

It seems that way probably because this image is a HDR at it's heart. The water looks overexposed and has the weirdest purple hue, I have no idea why. It's all streamy because this was a long exposure shot

Oh, so it's like how you get the streams of lights on a busy highway?
What's HDR??

Yes its sorta like that. But the post processing probably hurt also.
HDR or HDRi stand for high dynamic range image. This means that you see more detail than would seem natural in a photo, because said photo is actually a merge of different shots of the exact same scene, but with varying exposure times.
So for example I have a dark tree line and a cloudy bright sky above. I make two or more photos, and in one of them I have the sky exposed correctly, while all the detail in the forest is lost to shadows. In another photo I'll have the trees exposed correctly, while the sky will probably look bright as hell, most likely all white from being overexposed. Combining these images into a HDR lets you keep the good parts from both, basically, and it creates some awesome colors and lighting effects.

I think the first pic looks very nice

Second photo is great. I love the tones, shadow and vignetting.
If you want a new lens, I'd recommend the 50mm f/1.4. It's only around $350 right now, I think, and its image quality is right up there with the f/1.2L version from Canon...which costs about four times more. Actually, I think tests reported that at f/1.4 until around 2.0, it's sharper than the L 50mm version.
If you can live with it being a prime, that's definitely a great choice.
Otherwise, for zoom lenses, Tamron's 17-40 f/2.8 is a good lens. Their 24-70 is good too, and was my main lens for a couple years before it was stolen with the rest of my equipment when my car was broken into last year. -____-;;
They're both pretty cheap...also in the $200-400 range, I believe. I think the 17-40 is generally known for having slightly better IQ than the 24-70.

50 f/1.8 is pretty good as well and pretty cheap.
I use the 28-135 IS f/3.5-5.6. Its a great lens.
|
f/1.8 is not worth it when the f/1.4 is available. It feels like a cheap toy, and its IQ is considerably lower than the 1.4 and 1.2. I don't think the 1.8 is worth it if you're serious about photography.

I find I'm really demotivated at the moment too - even when it comes to some of my Esports photography I find myself complaining or getting a headache and having to do my final photo shoots (the special ones.) when I'm feeling like crap. I think it's because it's so hot here in Seoul recently -_- I've found that going out and photographing something from a genre you've never tried before can be quite inspiring though - I did this with flowers recently and it really refreshed me for a while.
