All my characters, and I mean all(Vincent, Cid, Yuffie, etc) are around level 40. Just finished Yuffie's subquest, and got Leviathan.

Just for some clarity, I meant that materia/junctions/(espers for that matter to a large degree)/job system (FF3, 5), made it so that everybody's skillsets overlap. Meaning, all of the characters can be white mages or knights, and their inherent differences are suppressed. This is the part I don't like. Now, I'm a fan of branching skill development and customization to some degree (see my blog reviews of SD3 and DL I guess), but not to the point where everyone can be everything. Instead of picking characters based on combat roles, you pick characters based on who you think is cool. I mean, that probably sounds great to most people, but eh. I guess I'll leave it like that--it's not a huge turn-off for me anyway. But you're right, in FF7 there is some degree of difference between characters. And my favorite was Vincent, yeah. Actually, one of my bigger gripes about the PSX FFs are the battle animations. I mean wtf, can't we skip watching KOTOR again? -_-;; Other games around that time had already allowed you to skip battle animations, so that's no excuse. Well, that and the random encounters. I suppose one of my favorite parts of FF6 compared to most SNES titles is the Moogle Charm. I mean, by the time of FF7+ you already had Romancing Saga 3 released on the Super Famicom which had the "you can see enemies on the dungeon map and they chase you around, initiating combat if they touch you" system seen in most PS2 era RPGs. Hm, you may be convincing me that FF7 is at the level of FF9 as average, despite Limit Breaks, broken summons, bitchslap minigames, Cait Sith 2, and the like. The materia system was pretty interesting and fresh, if not totally balanced or well-implemented.

Plus this speedrun is super super amazing, one of the best I've ever seen. It solves the puzzles so awesomely, luck manipulates bosses, and pretty much pwns everything. Boss strategies are so optimized it's ridiculous. Lufia 2 seems like it'd be a sick game for speed runs, I'll definitely check this out sometime. Is it tool-assisted? edit: lol, they have it in "HQ" h.264, but they resized it to 320x240 so the text is barely legible. =/
