So I just bought an Archos 605 (4 gb version) and I'm extremely excited to try it out. It's coming on Tuesday. I was looking for a good video player and this seems to be the best around. Other considerations were one of the Cowons or iPod touch. The iPod Touch has such poor resolution, though. I ended up with the Archos because the Cowon is so expensive.
Hopefully 4 gb will be good enough since each set of VODs usually take at most around 1 gb. I can always add a 16 gb SD card later on if I need it. Now I'll have something to do during those one hour gaps between my classes instead of going to the arcade (Street Fighter II wins).
Other good things about this player: - plays most formats - wifi and flash support for youtubing - can act as TiVo if you buy the add-on
I'll admit I'm no expert in this area however. Anyone else have other video players? This looks great, but it's almost $500.

kool i just bought this one recently. Its the 605 30gb. I think it was early january and I love watching vods on it. The biggest problem with the player is the charge time. Since the player only comes with a usb plug, you have to charge through your computer which can take up to 8 hours for a full charge.

I wanna have iPod Touch / iPhone or such a player 8< Can you apply headphones on it? ;O

I'm actually in the market for a portable video player myself. How do VODs play on it? Screen big enough and resolution ok? How is the battery life?

I have the 605 80GB and love it. I've been a big fan of Archos players and every year I pick up a new model.
The AV420 got me started, then AV500, 604, now the 605. Archos is the gold standard of portable video players.
