Currently I'm living at my parents house. I have a teenage sister, who is in high school. We have a good relationship although we aren't siblings who play or chat with eachother often.
This afternoon she came home from, with a slightly pink nose, and I asked if she had a cold. She just went to her room. It hadn't occured to me at all that she had been crying.
Later when my dad returned, she said she had something to tell him, before immediately breaking into tears. He said quickly said sure and went into her room to talk with her. I was shocked because my sister had always been a snotty kid at home.
I respected that she wanted to talk to our dad first; while I was sitting outside, I was considering possibilities. I suspected she was either raped or had gotten herself pregnant. They were having a pretty long conversation, which lasted about 3 hours. I was already making plans to find out anyone who mistreated her and teach them a lesson.
It turns out what happened was that she failed her economics test, with a score of 6/30. I now feel like a jackass.
That's a definite relief given the alternatives you were considering, but I've always been a straight-A student and I remember the first time I failed a test too... pretty much the same reaction as your sister.
It's funny how encouraged men are to think of that as the most likely possibility, to always think of women (even family) in terms of their sexuality. If it were a boy who came home like that, you'd think maybe he got beat up or something, emphasizing the stereotypical male role in conflicts.

Obviously I'm joking , but my parents did whoop my ass so hard that for the next few days I had to walk with my feet 2ft apart. She got a light scolding from our mom.
OP, glad to hear that she was ok in the end. I started wondering if her heart got broken or something which is why she was crying. Glad that it was only a failed test though those things (rather failing a course) hurt like a bitch T.T

Teaching young people to not get tricked by glorified fairy tales is in fact a very real profession, and a very efficient way to make them successfully pass their tests.

econ's just one of those classes where you memorize facts/formulas. Just turns out that the facts/formulas are made up and can't be applied where the axioms of "econ world" don't hold.
And when you have axioms such as "people are rational" yeah, gl finding those people
