So this weekend, I was sitting upstairs in my office and started hearing my dog barking indicating someone was pulling up. I assumed it was my wife after feeling the garage door opening, and not soon after I hear a loud SCCCrrraatttccccchhh, and I knew exactly what just happened. (again)
For reference this is where I park my awesome Civic:

And this is what happened:

So the question is now, where should I park? A: + Show Spoiler + B: + Show Spoiler + C: + Show Spoiler + D: + Show Spoiler +
Poll: OptionsA (19) 68% D (6) 21% B (3) 11% C (0) 0% 28 total votes Your vote: Options (Vote): A (Vote): B (Vote): C (Vote): D
Background: Our "Two-Car Garage" is in reality, one car + crap. I would be scared of the results if we tried. Option A is the first option, but unfortunately the neighbors have the tiny cul-de-sac slice, so any of their friends end up parking there.
ps - it's monday so I was bored enough to make this gif!

Have you considered teaching her how to drive as option E? It seems like your car will be in danger no matter where you decide to park it until that issue is resolved.
|
I was going to pick A but after reading your background paragraph I went for D because it seems like D gives you the highest visibility which is good in terms of not being hit by passing traffic as well as theft prevention.
Second option - don't let your wife drive :p

I'm guessing you were being nice and allowing her to park in the garage while you braved the weather each day. Looks like your wife has lost that privilege. She's parking in the driveway, and you are parking in the garage! Yeah baby!
|
Failing A, D. Failing D, ask her if she would let you park in the garage. micronesia!
edit: don't ask just park

I've tried, usually results in her driving worse.

I didn't even make than an option since this is what would happen:

So far A is in the lead :-D

Why not park further up like this?
![[image loading]](http://entusgalleries.com/temp/carpark.gif)
It's nearly impossible for the same situation to happen, given the wider turning radius.
(Unless the pic you provided was hugely out of proportion and your driveway is actually not that long)
|
Or better yet, park on the left side, assuming that the problem is your wife's inability to judge the space on the right side of the car. It's a lot easier to judge space on the left since that's where she's sitting.

Lol...it's a civic bro.....a CIVIC!!!!
Personally i'd park as close to the garage door as possible, leaving a gap for it to open of course. That what she should be going as slow as possible in time. (Like shown by Razorsuke)
Or...take away her god damn keys bro ;_;
Take a picture of your car so i can laugh at it please? :D:D:D

1) clean your crap out of the garage 2) where you were parked was ideal, given that you have not completed step 1.
My garage is 19 feet wide, and I own a truck. If I can park 2 cars in the garage, so can you.

I agree with razorsuKe. Pull up into your driveway. This will give your wife (or whoever else is driving) more time to straighten out the vehicle. Why would you park so far away anyway? You're making yourself walk farther and you're increasing the risk of getting hit by someone driving into your driveway or around the circle. Seems like a pretty simple fix.

I'd just lock her in the house, OP. What does she need to leave for anyway??

I think all of those solutions are dangerous for the safety of your vehicle. Wherever you park it, someone might run into it. What you should do, is add a hell of a lot of armored plating to your car, so the damage goes onto the vehicle that runs into you, not vice versa!

How does she hit your car in a dual lane driveway on a wiiiiide as hell cul de sac to do a wide turn on.
Or is the driveway 1.5 car widths like the garage? in which case whoever is home first parks in the garage.
Live in Canada? Is it winterpeg? -- Plug the blockheater in. Is it never more than -30 celsius where you live? She can deal with it.

I made a more accurate layout of the situation like so, and the ideal situation if we were both awesome drivers. ( its a cul de sac, but excel doesn't like curved cells )
![[image loading]](http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag119/Davlok/image_zps44d087fc.jpg)
The actual situation: We have too much crap. The civic is a coupe (sweet sweet riced up with not one, but two stickers) the SUV is a Honda Pilot. Sorry U_G_L_Y, we are bad at organization. I will get a shed to put the excess crap in someday.
![[image loading]](http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag119/Davlok/image_zpsb71d3429.jpg)
What I suspect would happen if I parked close to the garage: A new garage door sensor.
![[image loading]](http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag119/Davlok/image_zpsccfcea02.jpg)
What I suspect would happen if I parked on the left: Matching side mirror ouchies and a new mailbox.
![[image loading]](http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag119/Davlok/image_zps750c3b24.jpg)
What I suspect would happen if I parked on the left further up: A new headlight.
![[image loading]](http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag119/Davlok/image_zps8b28e18e.jpg)
So while I was walking our dog around the neighborhood, I came upon the realization that this exact situation has probably occured countless times throughout the years and the solution was starring me right in the face everytime I walked the dog: side parking space of inevitability!

Should be Solution E I guess! :-D

A concrete parking strip/RV pad will cost you about the same as a shed...
Again, based on your diagrams, you were parked in the best place you could have been

These diagrams are great!

Oh my god. Please diagram everything from now on.
I love this haha.

Yep, I was pretty sure I was parked in the best location if I were the one driving the SUV, but then again I am right handed (wife is left), I slow down for speed bumps, she doesn't, I like diet coke, she like pepsi, etc etc. But if we want to put down some more driveway will need to ask for permission from the ALL-POWERFUL home-owner-association. Or .... get a really big shed to park my car and all the extra crap!

Hehe thanks, I still love my animated gifs from back from the 90s. Surprised they haven't added sound by now XD
But as a minor update, our garage door torsion spring broke last week, and had to wait a few days for the not-super-expensive repairman to come fix it, and had to risk parking next to the wife on the driveway... and it actually went without incident!
Here was the layout: I'd park in the upper left corner and told her to park anywhere on the right. Since we dirty americans drive on the right side of the road and sit on the left, it let her have a bit better vision and not have to judge the right side at all.
