1) buy a van for £???
- prices start at like £250 but these are probably without an MOT, meaning itll cost a lot to get it "up to shape" if you want to drive legally
- you can drive a van with a normal license i think
2) go on the freebie websites and newspaper, and collect or purchase cheap items for resale.
- they have to be resellable
- they have to be profitable
- there has to be some demand for the item in its condition and also via the forum you intend to sell it
items such as fridges, chairs, desks, which people want to get rid of, and which will fit in the van, but also there is some relevant demand (there are lots of free crappy chairs but will anyone want to buy them?)
3) make £30-50/day
the competition
- there are services that claim to pick up unwanted items completely for free
- there are services that offer cheap items (but their hidden cost is that they charge for delivery too)
viable way to make this work is...
- catch super offers by checking online often etc
- only go for items guaranteed to sell fast and at an acceptable margin
issues...
- will need to buy a dolly/transport trolley & a ramp and see if i can shift heavy items like fridges by myself
- although services exist, there seem to be plenty of people who don't know about them and still advertise their cheap or free items online. also, the other services (like the one that will collect any electrical stuff) dont appear to advertise well at all
- my advantage is being able to pick up the phone and acquire an item immediately when it is posted
- i have some limited storage space. i would need to buy say 6 items max then sell before i can get more
- i suppose if i cant sell something then ill easily be able to know how to get rid of it
- i need to buy a van and insure it, my insurance is like £2k/yr but you only have to pay £400 upfront. i know nothing about motor vehicles, ive owned several but never had one break down or any problems..
