And why wouldn't you chip in...its only a few dollars and is statistically favored. Also the fact that everyone chips in means that there is a higher chance of winning...

In a sense, state-run lotteries and casinos are the perfect method of taxation since they're completely voluntary.

The lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math

Pretty sure people know they're not likely gonna win, they just don't care. It's fun to dream.

If they don't, you could buy every combination for 176 million and win 350 million guaranteed (+ all of the 5 number prizes...) if there are multiple winners, the prize is split i believe

Some people do it just for fun though, and hey if you can get $1 worth of fun out of it then in a way it's providing a service.

no those are the odds of winning but i think there over 20,000,000,000 combinations i mean 1/56 u get one right so then 56*55*54*53*52 then times 46 for the mega thats over 20,000,000,000 diffrent combos so no you would be at like 10% what they mean by the odds is if you were to play it long term thats your chance of winning over a period of time my guess would be around 60 years of playing your odds are 1-176 million

On another note, I'm using my random number generator drawing from a container to pick numbers for me...I don't think that was a great idea.
