Honestly, some people shouldn't play Starcraft. If it doesn't make you happy, don't play. I hope you do make masters, but as someone happy floating back and forth across the gold/platinum threshold, all I can say is try not to let the game give you rage or anxiety. If getting to masters league is important to making you happy, then suck it up and play until you get there.

Sometimes quitting is the best thing to do. Best of luck.

People don't respect diamond players. I've worked my ass up from silver to where i am right now and I've been close now for 2 seasons and both I've been very very very close then I hit a shitty streak where i can''t win a game at all. I can't imagine EVERYONE is in that same situation where there's the pressure to get promoted.

I take it you are quite young? I'm only 20 but last year and some failures have made me realise that it's too exhausting to live to what you think are others' expectations and it doesn't help you achieve your own goals and objectives.
Seriously, take Toast's advice, you can (and probably will) come back to SC2 later.

youre a shit player and so is pretty much else in the world. diamond or masters or bronze you've all got things youre doing wrong. theres .000001% or something of players that are actually decent. a lot of pros aren't *that* good either. so who cares if you lose or not, it doesn't matter, you're bad, he's bad, so unless you actually want to become ACTUALLY good wins or losses don't matter. if you ACTUALLY want to become good you have to really analyze what you're doing and focus on specific aspects of your play that are bad, and drill them to death. you will lose a LOT if you want to become good, before you can actually play decently. Looking at the minimap, for example, is something a lot of people dont do. Once you start doing it, your macro will slip, your micro will slip, and you'll lose a lot. but eventually youll get better with that and youll be looking at the minimap at the same time. You'll never improve if you think "ugh im losing a lot im so bad". You have to look at what you're doing wrong mechanically first, then what you're doing wrong strategically. Losing is just part of improving, you've got to take losses and learn from them. You learn a lot less from wins than losses (if you're actually looking to learn from games).
Of course, you don't have to be trying to improve, you can just play for fun and competitiveness, without having to be top tier competitively, and you can easily become frustrated in this way. But if you're not trying to improve, then what do you care if you lose anyways? Just have fun and enjoy the game.

So this is all about peer pressure? Really? That has to be the worst reason I've ever heard for someone to play a video game. What are they all going to say when you quit the game?
At some point in your life you are going to have to realize that everyone is better than you at something. Getting into childish competitions to prove you are just as good is just that; childish. Spend your time having fun and doing what you like, don't waste your time trying to prove something to your friends; and especially don't waste your time trying to be something you're not. Life is way way way too short to spend our precious time doing stupid things like that.
Also, this has to be the first time I've ever heard of someone getting peer pressured over a video game. Go smoke some pot or drink some beer or something jeeze...

It's pressure I put on myself to get better because they're better than I am. That's called a competative nature. I played this game just like this even before I met these guys. I've never been okay with not improving in rank the whole time I've played this game.

Of lately I have been seeing an increasing amount of comments revolving around the mentality, "you suck, get used to it." While I understand where this is coming from, and can agree with it to some extent, this seems like a deeply depressing attitude to adopt. In reality, if you have devoted the time required to reach high diamond, you are far from awful at the game. It would be far from encouraging to tell a introductory guitar student (or even one who has a fair degree of experience behind them) that, "you need to realize you suck and should focus on sucking less."
My main point is that the reason most all of us play this game is because we enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and growth. Try not to lose that feeling man, and appreciate how far you have come!

I agree with TheToast. I also agree with the other players who have stated that you should play for fun.
But, if you choose not to play for fun and instead decide that you must get to masters, just keep in mind that all the evidence available to you is that If you continue putting the pressure you put on yourself then it seems like one of the consequences of that pressure is you raging. What's going to happen when you make masters, anyways? Are you then going to give up playing? Give up trying to improve? Or is your entire gaming life going to be a series of painful, rage-filled steps up the ladder -- a ladder that you will never get to the "top" of.
|
I gave up playing competitively like a year ago.... too much stress, and now I just enjoy running LAN's and organizing stuff for the scene. You shouldn't play if you don't enjoy playing
|
1) If you actually want to improve your mindset is completely wrong. Arbitrarily doing builds is bad for improvement - do something standard and repetitive. You should be mad when your macro fails, not when you lose (I feel worst when I win shitty games). You have no right to ego because you aren't pro; you aren't better than the guy who all-ins you because you play a different style, and vice-versa, regardless of who wins.
2) If you aren't enjoying it, stop. This is your free time. No one's telling you to play. If you get satisfaction from improvement, do it. If you get burned out and angry from playing, stop. There will absolutely be times in your life when playing starcraft is counterproductive - for improvement and for your mental state.

LEave the game and do something more worthwhile that suits you better :D Something that actually makes you happy in the long run. Isn't there always been something you've wanted to do?

I'll go ahead and judge you.
raging and breaking stuff when you aren't even a "pro" probably means that you're not really doing anything else big in your life because you put so much. There's truth to the buddhist saying that you should not express constant anger, unlike one time events. If you refrain from expressing it and control it, it will eventually diminish.

It's a matter of personal pride (I'd assume), stop thinking that that (the portion I quoted) is the main reason for him to quit. I'd be frustrated too if I was working hard and still feel like I'm not getting anywhere for 2 seasons. Wanting to improve oneself isn't a childish goal.
