My point is, your PvP doesn't have to be expansive. Just figure out one build (a short one if PvP isn't "fun," do the build), get the 8 starcraft minutes out of the way.

one thing tho, when people say "go play custom games" i dont think they mean random custom games, but customs with practice partners, which are pretty easy to find. Also I've actually found PvP to be really fun now tho, the whole dynamic for example in blink vs robo wars is very intense and makes for cool games to play. Unfortunately yesterday I only got matched up vs protosses on tal darim.. T_T So yeah if you dont enjoy a matchup, become good at it, then it will be more fun ^^ race picking would be amazing though of course

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=299837 Ideally PvT should be there instead of TvT, but that doesn't seem to be the case yet. edit: Funny to note is that replacing ZvP with TvP would - in the moment - also work well, so... just playing Terran is pretty close to optimal race-picking vs each race. Interesting.

PvP is almost only about 4 gate but ZvZ at the very least has some different variations of openings and style. (I would totally veto out zvp through, god, the amount of x-gate all-in is unbelievably high, at least 80% of the toss I face are doing it)

'Oh. OH. I have to play this match up! Shit!' I lost 2 without having any idea what to do, then I googled it and watched Destiny's 'Unbeatable ZvZ Build'. Tried it once and it won easily, and ever since then I've just gone with that. Works pretty fucking well to be fair.

Strangely enough though as opposed to you I actually really enjoy pvp and only really lose if I go 1 gate robo and they do a phoenix build or if they just have godly blink micro. That said I also really like tvp so my racepick would probably be 50/50 tvp/pvp, tvz, and pvt.

That being said, I can understand your disdain. ... it is Protoss afterall <: Yea I wish you could race-pick in SCII too, then I'd baneling bust T every game (:

I play protoss as well, and i hate pvp as hell. I've played 2250 ladder games or something, and i'm always 4-gating in pvp and have done it for almost a year. It's a bit time-wasting, but for some reason find it very good for practicing micro, and 4gate still works in mid masters so why not? Another thing i did to have more fun with improving at starcraft 2, was to join a Clan. Here you get practice partners (if the clan is big enough to have players at your level), and therefore very efficient improvements on the game can be made. I do think, that practice partners alone is not a solution alone, since a balance between playing people you know, and people who does a lot of different stuff (cheese included) would be the best imo. - so yeah: BLIZZARD, PLEASE GIVE US A RACE PREFERENCES BUTTON! - to make laddering more fun and efficient for learning as well.

Actually 2 gate proxy (which i believe you mentioned you already do) is very very successful on large maps where your opponent doesn't scout until late (>12gate). It's a garuanteed win if your micro is decent If you really do want to play standard though, then just play reactively. If you see high energy on their nexus, assume its a 4gate and do your own defensive 4 gate, if you see double gassing get a robo quick and if you see them expand go kill it and teach them why you NEVER EVER expand in PvP. EZ PZ And to answer your question OP... if I could racepick I would be tempted to go PvT every game... But I wouldn't because it wouldn't help me become a better playe.

looooooooooooool He switched back to T last time I checked however! I would probably play ZvP instead of TvP or just outright ban the matchup. I don't truly struggle with it, its just a really dumb matchup which shows the most glaring flaws of SC2 in it. Love my TvZ and TvT though!
