Hey guys!
I realise that I was laid off, using the word fired was just lack of vocabulary from my side.
As the title clearly says, I just got fired. I am 15 years old and I have worked there right since I turned 13. You might think, what's the big deal? But for me it is hell of a deal, on my school, probably 40% of those my age, have a job. And out of those I probably had the best. All of the others had paper routes or some shitty job sweeping in a warehouse, or cleaning in a bakery. Where againts, my job is in a store that sells kitchen stuff mostly. What I think is great is that I can take a coffee break, others at my school cant. I work indoor, most of my mates dont.
Today I got a message from my boss that said I should come to work if I could today. Right as I got this message I started thinking, and I began thinking of the what the posibilities for what she wanted me to come for was. One of the first things were being fired. I was pretty sure of this because of 2 things. 1. One of my coworkers got fired, but then the budget allowed her to be rehired. 2. She didnt ask for me to come work today or anything, she asked if I could stop by, so that made me pretty nervous.
So I got there, and me and my boss went into the office and we got some coffee and a piece of cake. She told me how much she appreciated me and what a difference I had done around this place. She told me that it was her boss that had told her to fire me, since the budget wasnt high enough for me to be in it. She had fighted for me and sent alot of emails to him, and had gotten pretty pissed at him. She had tried to tell him how big a difference I made, thinking of how cheap I am to have working. But he didnt want to listen and just told her that she should just stop. But my boss is right. When I think about I am damn cheap to have working in the back. While the adults are in the store taking care of the customers, I am in the back, opening goods, restocking the store and doing other stuff. And I do this faster than the others do, to half price even. I appreciate my bosses effort, but the big guys wont listen, too bad for me....
Now, I have 3 moths left of working, and then I have to stop (I stop May 1st). There is one teeny bitty chance that I can stay, but if that has to happen, we have to sell for the same numbes or more, as we did in december (And we sell a hell of a lot in december cuz of christmas) the next 3 months. So all in all, my chances arent good. But my boss told me that the instant she hears they have money to hire someone like me again, she will call me. Also, I am saving up for a new PC, I did the numbers and I will ecxactly have money for it when I stop, so that is one good thing.
And now.....soon I will have over 11 more hours per week of freetime. What the hell should I spend all this time on? I guess the best thing I can think of is DotA, atm I am playing DotA 1, but by the time I stop, I would hope DotA 2 is either released, or that I finally get my beta key. Since I will have a lot of time to spend, I think I will make it my goal to become very good at DotA. I would say I am a pretty good player, with okay much experience. So that will be what my time is dedicated too if I aint mega lucky to keep my job.
Thanks for reading if you got through it all

I think you mean you got laid off. Being fired would mean they were firing you cause you did a bad job. Laid off meaning that cant afford to keep you or your position is no longer needed. Also your only 15, the money is only for spending not for actually living so its not a huge deal if you cant find a replacement job right away. If the only things you really liked about the job is working inside and having coffee breaks I think you will happy anywheres lol. There are plenty of decent minimum wage jobs that allow this and usually at these jobs its not really about the work you do but the people you work with that make the job enjoyable or not. Anyways hope this helps and I hope you figure out your "situation" lol

Ugh that sucks man, at least you get three months notice, which is way better then anything you would get here in the States. Hopefully you can find a backup job in the time you have. Good luck man! If I come across a spare Dota2 key il hook you up

And yeah, ofc, my coworkers were also great, I enjoyed the job itself and everything there was great. Just forgot to mention it. I dont think there is anything in my town that will be near as good at all.

Laid off, not fired. Don't worry Your boss was clearly on your side.
It sounds like your job ended in a professional manner, which is always a good thing. Never burn bridges with employers or co-workers. You never know what opportunities will arise down the road.
You can always look for a new job if you have so much free time, or take a little while to relax.

Sorry to hear it, but as others have mentioned it's important to differentiate laid off from fired. Even though they might feel the same. Definitely keep on good terms with everyone you've worked with, also. You have no idea what they could bring.
If you cherish your emplyment so much, I would recommend looking for another place to work after May 1st. Ask your boss if it's ok to have them call her as a reference, and make sure you put down your employment on your resume. Already having experience is a big plus in a lot of places.
All the best, good luck!

Hey man, you're 15 and in school, you have plenty of time before losing your job is a huge deal. I admire your work ethic though. I also worked from the age of 13 and also had jobs much better than my peers (in America, I was pretty much the only one with a job in my grade, save for a few). Because of our young age, time restrictions, and lack of experience, we are usually not the best candidates for jobs, especially if there are applicants who are more qualified/more flexible willing to work for same or similar work. We're often seen as undependable, and I don't think it's an unfair assumption to make about young teens, even if your particular behavior hasn't shown anything of the like. When it comes time for lay-offs, it's always more beneficial to lay-off the young, inexperienced, short-hour workers. So, keep your chin up, and enjoy the additional freedom for a bit!

yeah, laid off, not fired. fired is usually because you did something bad.
good luck, dude. i hope they'll hire you again (at least before you turn too old to want to work there).

I read the title a was prepared to ask who you sexually harassed XD. Crabby situation for you. Perhaps you could ask your boss' boss in person if it is absolutely set in stone that you will need to be laid off.
|
If your boss was fighting for you to keep the job then that's atleast moderately good news. She's a supportive reference in that case for your next job. There's a huge difference between laid off and fired.
|
As others said above, you were laid off and not fired. Don't take it too hard on yourself, stuff like this happens - business is business, business as usual.

Not a big deal Sounds like you'll be able to get a great recommendation from your boss, which is always important. ^^

you sound like a hardworking mature individual. reading your blog post really makes me feel spoiled...

Yeah like others have said, you got laid off but that's better than being fired. You ended on good terms so who knows what may pop up later down the line, and at the very least you'll get a good referance for the next job you go for. Best of luck to you though .

You people start working early
Good luck keeping your job, but having more free time until someone turns up isn't that bad at your age.

Wow, no wonder Denmark & co. are doing so well. 40% of high school kids have jobs? That's absolutely amazing.
Take a break, enjoy some games

If only all bosses are as nice as yours when they lay you off, you even got cake! Losing your job starts to suck when you have to pay for food and a roof over your head, it's nice to see that you care about work already at your age.

Make a good resume and started handing them out... imho best advice. More experience and at a young age is so good. I don't think you will have trouble finding another job, possible a better one. Not until you try!

And now.....soon I will have over 11 more hours per week of freetime. What the hell should I spend all this time on?
Go and have sex?
