I have been playing BW and SC2 for about 1.5 years now, on about a 10-12 hour per week basis. I really, really really, love the game. In fact, I have never done anything in my life life that I like so much. The issue is I feel like I am giving all my time and effort to something that has been giving me nothing in return. I can't control the amount of time I play because there is nothing else I would like to do better than watch or play SC. I have played Chess and having a 1800 USCF rating but I really rarely play anymore, because its just not as interesting as SC nor as good of a game. But with Chess, it actually gives you something in return. I have won about $1200 playing chess over the last three years and I got my picture in the Washington Post. SC hasn't done that for me, but I still chose SC over Chess. I am asking this question to you all, because you all have played and watched SC. What can I do that is just as fun, if not more fun, than SC, that can actually give me something, like Chess does? Here are somethings I already do or have tried that are not as interesting to me as SC instruments music composition Chess Go foreign languages computer programming computer exploitation reading competitive math Academic Quiz bowl graphical design paintball stock trading stealing vandalism drugs friends soccer biking running science How can I make these things more interesting, or is there anything else that is worthwhile doing?

Star Wars: The Old Republic early release starts in 2 days
A lot of people are anti-MMORPG though so maybe that's not what you're after...
Rock climbing is fun, maybe try that.

So anyone else wondering what kind of vandalism and stealing you have done besides me??? lolol

Maybe people would be able to make more accurate recommendations if you could tell us why you like SC so much. Like, what aspect of it is so intriguing.

Snooker. Love it. Only thing that beats SCBW for me.

I'd suggest going to a strip club

I'd say get back into the music composition, but I don't know for how long you've been doing it, and how frustrated you are with the patience aspect of it. I try to make sure I do something composition-related at least once a day, but I have my droughts like anyone who hasn't made it yet. I can't be passionate about it yet because I haven't had the patience to finish many things worthwhile to me, which isn't saying much... I'm pretty picky.
You could try writing, painting, or meditation. The latter is pretty in demand these days if you can teach other people how to do it and actually know what you're talking about.

gf, but beware, much like sc, a lot of them don't give anything back at amateur level

@hp.Shell thanks for the advice. I really like music comp but I try to do classical stuff and it just ends up sounding like pop. Very discouraging. Painting and writing are actually in my interests, maybe I should have included them on the list but I can never seem to get so into them @SnetteL yeah I was kind of including gf under the "friends" list. A lot of work for someone like me but maybe I'll give it another try. @MrDudeman Something with strategy, that is very competitive, and rewards quick thinking? I also just the excitiment of the risks and how it takes your complete attention.

If you have the discipline, force yourself to do something productive. If you don't, then you'll simply have to wait until you're a bit older and you get the feeling you've wasted a chunk of your life doing things like playing Starcraft. At that point, you'll feel a greater drive to be productive.
Once you start doing something really productive in your life, it's hard to spend all your time playing Starcraft anymore because you just won't enjoy it as much.
