14 weeks ago I started playing Starcraft 2. Now I'm 14 weeks closer to becoming a pro gamer. Each week I'm going to put together statistics of my ladder games using Sc2gears, a replay analysis program.
101 games played, giving 14 games per day on average.
40 ZvZ, 33 ZvP, 25 ZvT - this shows the zerg race is most popular on diamond european ladder. I'm not exactly happy about that, as zvz is the least macro-oriented matchup. Zvz is a great practice of ling battles micro, but I would love to play more macro-oriented zvp and zvt on the ladder. Maybe its time to practice in custom games with terran and protoss friends?
ZvZ - 57% win ratio. I have a style that works out pretty well. I open 13 gas 13 pool, make 15 drones and constantly pressure my enemy with speedlings. Expand on 21. My goal is to win ling battles and keep him in base, making just enough lings to challenge him, but droning as much as I can squeeze out. If I see banelings, I immediately transition to roaches. If I have an economic advantage, I transition into +1 glial roach timing attack or into mutas. Works rly well. I lost a lot to 6-pools so the ratio should be even higher than 57%. If my MMR rating grows and I get better opponents, this ratio might drop, as more and more of my games will go past that +1 timing attack point. I dont have that much experience in zvz long, macro games.
ZvP - 40% win ratio. That's the matchup I'm currently most confused about. I was dieing to DTs and 4-gates. I was being straight-out outmacroed. I lost all my army for free due to bad engagements. I'm having trouble engaging protoss deathball the right way. Its getting better, but still feels like my weakest matchup. Motherships are worst, Im losing entire armies for free, just trying to snipe that thing. I'm getting better and expect the ratio of this matchup much higher next week.
ZvT - 52% win ratio. I'm feeling very strong in long, macro-games. I often outplay and outmacro terrans in big battles. However I die 95% of the time to mech composition - mass hellion thor and tank. No idea how to respond to that. Also dieing a lot to early bunker pressure, as it requires crapload of skill for the zerg to hold it. I'm getting better, but its still really hard. I'll keep opening hatch first until I learn to micro properly and hold.
Interestingly, my average APM is higher in ZvT than in two other matchups. It takes a lot of skill and speed from the zerg to beat the terran.
Today I beat my first master league player, so my promotion is getting closer and closer ;-) More stats next week!
What other statistics would you like to see? Let me know in the comment!

Nice read and good luck getting promotion! Better work on your zvp

I feel you against protoss, this season I actually have 100% winrate against Z and T but I'm ¬30% against Toss. High Diamond Z as well.

GL! Are you spending full time playing sc2? Because 14 games a day while spending your entire time playing sc2 would be kind of low if you ask me.

There's also time off calculated into that. Thats why its so low. There are days i don't play at all.
And obviously, I eat, watch replays, take breaks between games, all that good stuff. After a few weeks of playing full-time it was obvious to me that I need a lot of time off to survive a tight practice schedule long-term.
Sure I could play 40 games per day for 3-4 days. But then I'd start forgetting to build spawning pool and stuff (I once rly forgot to build pool when I was tired. I noticed right when first attack came.)
If I wanna keep at it for a few years, I need a smart and balanced schedule. The games played will go up to 20 / day in the nearest weeks I think.

Interesting, there's probably a pattern. I think that zerg has to macro nearly perfectly to hold off protoss timing pushes. Even for diamonds, it might be hard to keep injecting and spending all money and gas WHILE the 4-gate is killing you. So an equally skilled zerg should lose to an equally skilled protoss.
But its OK, cause I feel like I'm breaking through and getting skilled enough to beat diamond toss players.

Don't know if zerg has to macro perfectly to hold off a protoss timing push. You can just scout for a timing push. If you take fast third, even before the 5 minute mark a timing push from a protoss will most likely not work since you'll lhave more larvae which will result in more units and then you can hold off the timing push really easily. So my advice would be to always take a fast third when you see the protoss doing a FFE and then just getting used to it and being able to defend it.

Yeah, if I learn to do that properly, I'll most likely hold. But what you said is exactly what I mean by "perfect zerg macro". Quick 3rd with constant droning, never missing overlords or injects or upgrades, scouting at right times. Just getting all the macro stuff right. Supplyblock or missed inject = not enough units and loss.
I get better at it, but still its challenging to get it all right...
