Hi guys, this is another one of those SWR (Script-Writing Research) blogs that's littering the forums, raising the ire of Chill and generally being helped/trolled by ILK, so bear that in mind before you read further.
I'm in the process of writing a screenplay that's set in Korea, and as someone who has never been there, I've been having, understandably, some trouble dealing with the basics of Korean culture, society, and popular references. For example: Korean train platforms have guardwalls that prevent accidents from happening, so a fight scene in a subway as trains pass would be implausible at best.
In any case, when I was a kid I was chilling with my Korean extended family, and we watched this really heart-wrenching movie. It was in Korean so I didn't really understand it but this is what it was about:+ Show Spoiler +There are two [EDIT: KOREAN they are KOREAN] dudes, and they're friends. They are living in Korea and civil war is coming. One of them is drafted but somehow they are both in the army, and then one of them ends up fighting for the communists, but defends against a North Korean attack by manning a machine-gun until he can't hold it up any more. Later, in modern day, his friend excavates his remains (he's now a wealthy businessman) and identifies the remains by a memento that the deceased man carried with him to the grave.
So, I really want to know the name of this movie. It's probably on this list: http://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/분류:한국_전쟁_영화 but I can't figure it out, since I don't read Korean at all. In fact, my memory of the movie is so vague that I probably got some of the details in the spoiler wrong. Does anyone have any idea what this movie is? It was very heart-wrenching and I remember crying. ;_; I want to watch it again, and also use it somehow as a cultural reference in Blood and Metal.
Thanks for the help :D and for reading through yet another SWR Blog.
