Ok. So yeah. Time to legitimately blog for the first time in a while. Firstly, interest in (possibly) teaching korea. I mean, it sorta sucks career wise. Lots of screwups afoot. And it would be quite difficult for me, because i'd have to pay a lot out of pocket if I had any heart/back problems. And I don't really intend to move. I mean, it's possible, but trying to transplant like that would suck.
Oh well, not really a good time to make those decisions. I don't know what to major in. To major in engineering. To major in the social sciences. To go undergrad business. To plan to go to grad school... Sigh.
Also am sucking at learning korean. Nearest place that offers it had all full courses. And I don't want to try to audit at UC berkeley. Can't really get classes anywhere. There is a korean school like 50 minute south, but everything is taught in korean. So that's sorta hard to get to.
I've been looking on talktomeinkorean.com Early information stuff is easy, but I am having a ton of problems getting up to a reasonable level. I get little bits, but I feel like I need some sort of a book, good or not. I have a super dry grammar one, but it's just so dry. Maybe I just need to man up and get through it. But it's so dry when I know too little to read basically ANYTHING. Words sound so foreign, and the learning curve seems steep. I think once I can at least read basic sentences with some reasonable accuracy things will pick up. Any help for getting from a few words and hangul. (and super basic conjugation) to there.
General girl blog. Still not that general.
1) I am a nice person. I hope. 2) I help girls with homework 3) I am quite possibly the most self-inflicted friendzone victim the world has seen. 4) I get uncomfortable about it sometimes. I dunno why. Mom gives me shit about not having a girlfriend. In one sense it makes sense not to, but in another sense there are advantages to it just knowing how to deal with relationships. 5) Sophomore year I chase around girl to ask to homecoming. Really nice. But evidently she's like literally having major hormone issues. And leaves school for a bit. I ask her on facebook. She's like herpderp not interested. Now I'm her study-buddy tt. 6) Last year I get into closer relationship with asian girl. yeah. there aren't any nice, not terribly ugly, intelligent white people at my school. So says I. Well, they exist but they hang out with football team. And act stupid on purpose to have stupid friends. I dunno... Then she starts talking about this guy she knows in hayward. And I start doubting myself. Like if she would really like to go out with this guy blahblahblah. Then she gets asked out, says yes, gets pissed at him for doing something really douchey which I still have no idea what it was, and leaves. 7) This year mom is giving me lots of shit, I am a fairly nice person, know a lot of people, do a lot of things well. Too wimpy to ask anybody out. Worried that if I do and they say know our friendship could get ruined. Sigh.

Protip: face-to-face is the best way to communicate. Protip2: never help girls with homework lol... surefire way to get friend-zoned. Well that explains my problems. I think that nothing happened: just be careful not to read too much into stuff like this.
^ Maybe this is indeed my problem.

about girls:
If you're trying to have a physical relationship(is that the polite way to say it?) with a girl, you need to let her know that's what you're interested in when you first meet her. If you only act friendly and courteous and don't try to be attractive, then you'll only be a courteous friend to her. They might be interested in you, but when you act like you aren't interested in the physical part by being too polite, nice, dorky, study buddy, etc, then they will think you aren't interested. Of course, I don't mean be a pervert or stop being nice. What I mean is that you have to show her you're physically interested.
Having said that, I don't know if any of it is relevant because your mom is batshit crazy and will ruin any chances you have of a girlfriend. still, good luck!

i can't wait for you to get to college. you'll do great, buddy!

Theres a website I used to use I think it was like.... livemocha.com or something that was pretty good for learning new languages.
for girls, don't worry so much about it, maybe you are in the friendzone but in a couple years the friendzone disappears. After that its just being friends and anything goes from there.
Wait til the team shirts are rereleased, that blue one is probably the best TL has in my opinion.

Stop just helping people with their homework and offer tutoring. Good money to be made there if you have a base of people who you know well and their families.

I still think the Winged Horse shirt is by far the best offering in the store. I really should buy one...

Damn booze.
Yeah, I guess I could tutor. Would actually need to not be lazy. I tutor math for free. And everyone is asking me for econ help tt But yeah, if I advertised people would take advantage of me. (Yes, that sounds wrong, but they would take advantage of my services.... wait that's not exactly right either..)
And thanks intrigue :D

You can't get a legal job in Korea teaching English unless you have a uni degree.
|
Alright I am no expert but I used to be in the same situation with girls as you.
However I have had some success recently.
Try letting them know you are interested from near the start. Once you get to the point of hanging out that is. Ask them on DATES. Doing homework together does not count! Take them places, Show them you are interested without saying it. I don't mean casually getting fast food, Try and make it seem like you planned it as opposed to it being a last minute thing. Be creative. Don't move too quickly either.
Once you get friend zoned, There is no turning back...
good luck man!

What book are you using? Although some books are 'dry', they can be good if you actually put the effort into going through them every day. If you don't live in Korea and you don't want to learn from a dry book, then I don't really see any way you would get a strong command of the basics...

While that's true, there is always that "TALK" government program (Teach and Learn in Korea) that enables college students to teach in Korea for 6 months, a year or etc. It gives a good break for people on their career path and gives time to think and decide their future during this time. It's actually a good program and you will definitely be in Korea (rural areas) finding lots of experience. So perhaps you should look into that!

You're gonna be stuck in the friend zone often if you constantly give in to what a girl wants or if it's a one way relationship where you get nothing and she gets everything she wants. You have to stop it. Tell her you can't help her do hw tonight because you are busy, if you are in the middle of texting (hopefully not for multiple hours :p) say you have to go and you'll talk to her later. I say that last part because I have a feeling most of the time when the conversation ends it's on her end and she has to practically start giving one word answers or just stop altogether. From the little I actually know of the situation it sounds like you smother the hell out of girls so just back it off some.
Note: I'm not saying don't talk or approach girls you like or that you shouldn't talk to them but save the 5 hour long texting conversations for later on in the relationship and stand up for yourself, you won't find a girl worth having if you let her walk all over you constantly. Oh and one more thing - maybe it's just because I'm old but use texting for short messages and short conversations and call (or meet up) when you want to talk for an extended period of time.

Yeah but you also have to be at least a 2nd year student and from the blog it seems that he isn't at all.

You asked a girl to a dance on facebook... we have a problem.
I am the victim of quite a bit of friendzones, but have had girlfriends. When you get FZed, that isn't much to do about it. Talk to other girls. The worst thing you can do is invest everything into a FZ relationship... If you start connecting with other girls, sometimes they realize they want you as more of a friend. Girls actually want what they don't have, so don't give them all your attention.
As for learning Korean, do you know any Koreans that can speak Korean?

Help with homework once or twice. Past that you get used, and friend zoned.

Maybe you should preemptively friend zone them, and employ reverse psychology!~

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of awkwardness. It is an area which we call "The Friend Zone"

The real problem is that you care if your relationship with these girls comes to an end. You have to think that women are walking vaginas, not people. This is the attitude that the popular guys getting lots of pussy have already realized.
Meet a girl, hit on her, don't care if she rejects you or not. Meet another girl, repeat. There are a lot of fish in the sea. Hit on every girl you meet; joke around a lot. If she acts offended, tell yourself she was a stuck up bitch and move on.
Women should not be your friends, unless they have hot friends that you want to hook up with. Once you already have a girlfriend, it's fine to have female friends, because you will be perceived as desirable due to already having a girlfriend. But always remember to joke around with them in a sexual way. You don't want them becoming comfortable with you as a friend. Let me repeat that: you do not want them to be comfortable with you as a friend. You need to keep the sexual tension alive by saying or doing things that they might not like initially, but they will become excited about when thinking about it later. Women like to be conquered by force. I'm not advocating rape here, but deferring to a girl never got you anywhere.
Look, I don't mean to come off as callous. But I had the same problems as you are having now, before I stopped giving a shit about women. I literally got so burned out on them that I just stopped caring. I started being a lot more straightforward, saying no, and putting my own priorities ahead of girls. And guess what? I was immediately more successful. I think women are hardwired to be attracted to a man that can "protect them in the wild" if you will, and will elevate them to alpha female status in the clan. And a man who spends his time trying to be nice to her is not that guy.
Personal Note: Fuck helping girls with their homework. If a girl is too stupid to learn by herself, I don't want anything to do with her. I don't do stupid girls. And it wastes time that could be spent with a smarter girl.

Lol. I guess it's better put as a study group.
