Casting together in the IPL is so great. they have really good synergy and debate interesting obscure things, real or not real. I never see any discussion of how nice they are casting together.

HD is cringe worthy and clueless for the most part, although he does have a nice voice. PainUser is ok I guess.

Painuser is great, HD manages to sound stupid for the most of the time. ( god how many times have he used that star wars mind trick reference?)

Painuser is alright, I don't really care for anyone who came into the game as a caster. Seems like they are all pretty much awful compared to players who transition into casting

i dont like either, HD doesn't know anything that he's talking about (same for husky) they just scream and should to distract people from the fact that they don't have a damn clue what they are doing. and painuser to me isn't a pro gamer, he has done nothing with all the hype he's gotten has gone no where considering every tournament he enters he basically gets dead last (nasl for ex.) either way i'd say a huge no to this and a no to either of them on their own.

I don't like the team for sure. But I guess I must give MASS props to HD because he is the one who made me discover the game. Also, I think *correct me if I'm wrong* he is one of the first "commentators" on Youtube. I can't say he don't know anything but, I watched a lot of his casts and I liked 'em, and it helped me a lot in my learning of SC2.

But PainUser? Bahhhh, boring!

i would like to make the argument that they are shout casters not really analyzing the game at a higher level of play. i would say that they provide some useful tips for players plat and below. personally i like hd and painuser i dont mind the duo

HD doesn't really know what he's talking about, which is not the same as Husky because Husky demonstrates he has some knowledge of the game. Painuser is an okay analyst but there are better ones like Artosis or day[9]. If Painuser was with someone like Wheat or JP or TB I think he would be doing a lot better and be much more respected as a caster.

I can't disrespect HD too much, as he (along with husky) were the ones that got me into SC2 in the first place. However obviously since then i've moved onto better casters etc., and looking back HD just isn't that great of a caster. He makes a lot of mistakes and I feel he's just not a part of the community as much as someone like Day[9], or even TotalBiscuit.

As for PainUser? At least he's a pretty good player himself so he brings some analysis to the table.

Listening to either Painuser or HD by themselves is terrible. Together, the show becomes an abomination. HD is completely clueless and Painuser's "analysis" is just as good as his playing ability (mediocre at best). These two casters plus AskJoshy make me want to kill kittens. Millions of kittens. So short answer: No.

I think HD just had trouble finding good words. He tries to use a lot of comparisons and more often then not, they fall short of what he probably had initially wanted. I like PainUser more than HD. The two aren't perfect and I usually prefer someone else, but I don't mind them too much to not watch a game between two players I like because of their casting.

I hated them since they first cast together on HD's channel. They are seriously the worst casting pair in SC2 right now. I still don't understand how people can listen to it.

Edit: For emphasis...

I would rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my fingernails than listen to either of these two people cast a starcraft 2 match.

I think a lot of it is that he isn't a very high level player. So while people like him initially, they eventually surpass his knowledge then think he's a bad caster

HD is wrong about EVERYTHING and painuser always has to correct him. HD needs to not talk out of his ass so much and they would be a much better duo.

I like them. I think there are alot of fair criticisms for HD, mostly based around his accuracy. Which is weird, he really is a competent player and knowledgeable about the game (Masters Zerg, going to MLG as a player). But he does say some bonehead stuff.

But even considering all that, I still like him. I am generally entertained by him, and I think he has alot of potential to get better. HD is where I was first exposed to Starcraft VOD's and commentary when I first picked up SC2... which was really the beginning of my trip down the rabbit hole of the SC2 scene. I think of him fondly for that.

And sure Painuser hasn't had any success as a pro, but he is knowledgable and I think he strikes a good balance with HD. I agree with the OP.

For the skill that painuser has I feel like he doesn't give as much insight into the game as he should and you can't rely on HD for that.

I'm surprised to see so much dislike for them both. HD is who caused me to gain interest in the game, and I was able to watch HD even before I played Starcraft. Sometimes they tell jokes or lead on with stories which can be lame xD, but the fact that they can do this and are friends is just another reason they are enjoyable imo.

Edit: some were insulting Painuser's skill, but he did place 3rd in MLG Dallas 2010!
So everything sucks, but thats okay; I can just turn the music up.

I think they're pretty good, though HD needs to stop with the stupid pop culture references.

And at the very least, they're both better than Gretorp.
You should not have to pay to watch the GSL, Proleague, or OSL at a reasonable time. That is not "fine" and it's BS to say otherwise. My sig since 2011. http://www.youtube.com/user/dabom88

I find the friendship the two have create great synergy in their casting ability. Needless to say improvements can be made, such as I would prefer to see HD just be somewhat more accurate when he analyses but his shoutcasting is still pretty good while I do enjoy the analysis of Painuser, as well as some of the descriptive words he uses, but I think that that they are fairly good now, but have the potential to be a great casting duo with time.

For some reason I cannot stand listening to Painuser. Even when I really want to watch IPL, I have to turn it off when he is casting. He seems to completely suck the life out of even the best matchups; I cannot put my finger on why. Maybe because he doesn't ever seem truly exited about anything and his 'analysis' doesn't even come close to making up for it. I respect him for trying (he had to give it a shot after realizing he was hopeless at becoming a progamer), but I think, when it comes down to it, he sounds like he's trying too hard. The frustrating thing is I cannot think of any way for him to improve.

HD is lacking in the analysis department, but I think he would be the first to admit it. However, he sounds like he truly enjoys watching and casting starcraft, and I think that goes along way in making up for his other weaknesses. I would prefer to listen to him alone, I think.

TL;DR

Making all kinds of mistakes like telling the fans that the 1.4 BFH will still 2 shot workers, over dramatising, lack of positivity, no robo counters to 111...

Other way around. They both make mistakes, but Painuser actually knows the game whereas HD doesn't, really.

Neither of them are actually that good at commentating IMO, but Painuser makes up for it by knowing the game. The fact that HD achieved a certain level popularity is mindblowing to me. He goes off on ridiculous tangents that make no sense, says untrue things all the time, brings up random BS.

I usually mute any stream or VOD commentated by HD but for IPL, I just lower the volume to catch the insightful things Painuser has in store. Artosis once said that he hates when shoutcasters pretend to know things when they clearly don't. I don't know that he would agree, but HD pisses me off because he can make stuff up absurdly well.

The world needs more tastosis and day9 and less silver players who appeal to the official battle.net forum posters. HD is like a freaking apple product.

I don't see why there so much hate. Cut these guys some slack, they are doing a decent job and promoting e-sports. That is never bad.

I tune in to IPL during work hours and it keeps me quite entertained and never had any complains.

They're "promoting e-sports"? Sure, they're also getting an actual salary. You know, money. It's not some great act of self-sacrifice for the community. I appreciate what they're trying to do, but I would bet that HD mostly appeals to people in the low leagues. (I'm sure some pros like to watch for the comical relief)

TL is packed to the brim with commentators who do it for free, some of them are much better than the bigshot youtubers but don't get the same recognition. Some of them are the selfless folks who promote "e-sports"

I think it's sad when fairly big names get super excited and shout things like "THE SCVS GET A FULL SURROUND ON THE MARINE" at the 4 minutes mark when it's actually 2 SCVs and the marine ran away. It doesn't matter if you sold your house to run a 200k tournament - it doesn't make you a good commentator.

I was initially negative about Painuser's casting, but lately he's seemed to have grown on me. HD is good as well. They're not the greatest casting duo in the history of ESPORTS but they're pretty damn good.

I love HD. He's the one who introduced me to Starcraft through Youtube. Always get a bit nostalgic when I see his casts. Fantastic radio voice too. Despite all you casuals claiming he doesn't know what he's talking about...perhaps it's the other way around. HD's made an impressive effort to improve his knowledge of the game and he's a mid-top level masters player who's competed at several MLGs. How many of you can say the same? So get off your bronze ponies and stfu.

Competing at MLG is easy. You pay and you play even if you're bronze.

Last time he tried to compete he lost 0-2 and dropped into lower bracket and then lost 0-2 and dropped out of the tournament. Well spent $50 (or whatever it costs).

He truly doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time.
