So if you're driving while it happens, you've got to pull over. And then thers cataplexy, where you like lose all muscle control and just fall down. Which can apparantly happen while remaining concious? Anyways, it's really nice to read about someone getting diagnosed with a disease [or whatever it is ;P] and having such a positive outlook. I hope everything works out for you, buddy!

Some great comedy based around narcolepsis though, you should feel good about that at least.

Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder which is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Of course daytime sleepiness can be many other things such as insomnia or anxiety/stress related. From what I gather Narcoleptics enter the REM stage of sleep way faster than a regular person does. From my studies I entered REM within 3 minutes of falling asleep during my sleep test, almost every time I fell asleep, whereas most people do not experience REM sleep until after 90 minutes. I've had dreams in 20 minute naps before. There was this couch in my high school math tutor room. Took a nap there, had a dream about a girl on the math team. A sex dream... does that count, or do I have to fall into rem sleep faster more consistently? I've had 1.5 hour naps too where I wake up during the middle of a dream to be induced by sleep paralysis as well. I could do this pretty consistently, so I think I only entered REM around that 90 minute mark. I guess the best thing to do would be to get myself tested, though as you said, at 1/2000, my chances of having narcolepsy are slim. I don't know if this was directed at me, but I only drink coffee during exam season, and even then very rarely, I rarely drink, and I don't smoke weed.

I've read that if you're really tired or sleep deprived, you'll enter REM sleep a lot faster. It's also possible to dream in non-REM sleep, though it's more rare. Even if it isn't narcolepsy, you should probably get to the bottom of it if you feel it's affecting your life too much. Wouldn't hurt to get some tests done. Also, Zedders, on the bright side, if you ever get into lucid dreaming you'll probably have an easy time doing it, as most methods depend on getting into REM sleep quickly.

Some people call it narcolepsy i guess Its hard to say, it doesn't REALLY get in the way, i just sleep a ton at random times and less at night melatonin helps me get a full nights sleep and i need to sleep less in the day

My girlfriend of 2+ years has narcolepsy. I can tell ya all about it our experiences with it. Just shoot me an email, markwirb@gmail.com For relevance, she takes Provigil and Xyrem, along with Ritalin, to stay awake. We're both graduate students in the humanities.

I can't sleep for more than about 10 hours, but I definitely try and definitely wish I could. But I always wake up way more tired than when I went to bed. It makes it hard cause when I'm tired my mood goes up and down like there's no tomorrow. x__x I had blood tests done cause they thought I had diabetes, cause they thought it was anemia, cause they think I have low iron or calcium. Idk. =________='' i saw a chart recently that said we go thru the dif sleep phases every ~40 mins, and it showed the best times to "wake up" because we were in a certain phase at that point. i think it said waking up after exactly 9 hours is ideal (also stuff like 8.2 hours, 7.4 hours or whatever). which is what im now trying to do. i feel soooooooooooo much better with ~9 hours sleep compared to 8.
