Portugal. The Man is an American band from Alaska. If you want to know their bio just wikipedia them, but what I can sum up for you is:
Their music is very folk-y but not really. I really think they have a very original style. The lyrics are rather mind blowing and are like nothing else I have heard so far.
They distributed their music themselves for a very long time and are very much against "the man", "record companies", etc. They are still immensely successful.
I really love this band, and I feel like most people don't listen to them except weird people or hipsters. Here are a few of their acoustics.
The reason I post this is just so some of you can enjoy this awesome band that I think gets covered by the terrible mainstream music we have here in the US today. If it wasn't for my hipster friends I would never have heard of them
In my vast collection of kpop and jpop, portugal the man is one of the few western bands on the playlist.
I really hate the vintage indie washed out 70's film look, but their music is exceptionally wonderful and original. Definitely recommend everyone to give them a chance, but I'll personally minimize myself away from their videos :p
If you like portugal the man, circa survive is another good band to check out.
I love Portugal. The Man! The singer's last band, Anatomy of a Ghost was terrible and I am surprised at how much of the opposite can be said about ptm~
