Help with the "double click" problem

For those who don't know what the "double click" problem is, it is basically when a mouse will register a double click even though you only clicked once. It also won't let you make full boxes across your screen like it's like you're letting go even though you aren't.

The solution is to open the mouse up, and use a very small amount of WD40 on the clicker that your having problems with. However, I have heard that using WD40 is bad for it. Despite seeing positive results, I just want to make sure that I'm don't make any mistakes or if there is an alternative lubricant that can be applied that is less dangerous then WD40.

Link is here
It says "WD40 or contact cleaner". I know what WD40 is but I don't know any other contact cleaner's or what they really are because I've never used them myself so I'm not too comfortable around this subject.

I have trouble getting the labels off of the shafts of new golf clubs... even when you get the paper off the glue stays behind. What should I use for this? I tried nail polish remover (on the steel shafts, not graphite) but it didn't work. Someone told me to try wd40. What do you think?

Screwloose, silicone, or better yet goo gone.

Personally, i wouldnt put any of that on my mouse, if u dont try it perfectly, it becomes a dust magnet. Are u sure lubrication/rust is your problem?

I think someone's trying to tell me something, but is using a silly example that I am supposed to understand?

yes, wd40 was originally designed to be an engine degreaser, that is why it has so many uses. But people are right, the acetone in nail polish remover will work, as will plain old rubbing alcohol.

as far as the double click thing, maybe you just need to turn the sensitivity down on windows. There is a mouse double click thing under control panel. I've never really heard of this problem, so maybe you got a faulty mouse, do a warranty claim on it. (logitech is legit)

Is there ANYTHING other than nail polish remover that might be available? I don't exactly have a good way of getting any

if its plastic-based.. i dunno, my experience is only with lubing rubix cubes (and they're plastic so maybe it's what you're looking for). i know wd40 blows nuts for cubes, everyone always uses a silicone-based spray
maybe try that? =)

lol i wasn't replying to your op here, just to micro. I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol or acetone on a mouse unless I was cleaning it.
Also, wtf? I listed 2 things there.

This.

Some examples? Also I swear i didn't see that rubbing alcohol one That sounds like a better idea though because my overall objective is to clean it. If you looked at the link, basically you take it apart, and "clean it" by putting wd40 but in this case, something else, to get rid of the double click problem.

I know it's not a software problem either no matter how fishy it seems. I also just did a clean install of a Windows 7 OS so it definitly can't be a software problem

I'd support this solution. I know its expensive, but silicone based sprays are the way to go if you really want to solve it.

Use pure alcohol to clear up the glue residue. Any type of cleaning alcohol (ie. ethanol, propanol etc) works as long as it's concentrated.

Um don't you just need to bend the copper contact. Why WD40?

Edit: I've done this to my mice and it hasn't failed me yet. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=594646
