If this is not possible and you would rather keep it an admin-only tool (which I can't understand because it's becoming more widely used on forums these days, most notably on the Blizzard forums), can this feature at least be added so that a user can view his own posting history, and reply to threads in which he is involved more quickly/easily?

I think it will actually help the mods keeping the forums clean, because forum regulars can PM them the name of any poor poster. On the downside, though, this might mean the MODs getting an ass load of PMs about spammers and "bannable" posters, thus making them work really hard to go through all the requested posting histories.

Having access to your own posting history (maybe of the last two weeks?) seems like a good idea though.

What it would do is make people more acutely aware of arbitrary or unfair banning - and this might be a problem. But there is different ways of viewing it. Form a users perspective maybe it helps detect and correct them instead of losing valuable forum members. It would also actually help you to flush out both if they started complaining about each other publicly. Annoying complaints is a good way to identify problems, trouble makers and abusers. That is the job of moderators. Posting a decent front page news sometimes takes hours, answering one complaint or dealing with a trouble maker takes seconds or minutes. The excuse that it is too much work for the moderation team I have heard it before - in many sites - and it is not one that I personally ever accepted in any team I managed. Compare only the large number of active mods, and the time they have to "work" with the time spent by the news posters or coders and you will come to one conclusion: some carry a much heaver burden. Bandwidth? Depends really on how much is available but I agree 100% that if it slows down the site in any way - I rather do without search functions and use only Google. However if it does not kick ass search function with more options just adds to the site. If they did not slow down the site in anyway (and the only way to find out it to put it to the test) I personally would enjoy this forum much more if I had those such functions. Testing is a solution - if it works, makes forum life better, leave, if it does not remove. Nothing is lost!

But your own posts is a very good idea, I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't think that's obvious at all. I would mostly only want to see other people's posts, so that I could follow posters i'm interested in. It wouldn't take much bandwidth, as it definitely would not need to use the search function (it would just be a simple list from 1 MySQL query) and when it's announced you could just make a rule that it's not to be used to single out members with bad posting histories. Just say "if you tell us to ban someone because you think their post history is lame, we'll ban you instead" sort of thing. Nobody wants everyone to go around telling everyone to ban everyone else, but it would still be a great tool that's easy to implement that would let a lot more threads be completed and a lot more people being able to read stuff by good posters.
