The Xel'Nagas are engineers, inventors, seers, and a symbol of civilization in the universe. In peaceful times, this brilliant civilization flourished throughout all the sectors of the universe. They are a peaceful race that cooperated well with other civilizations.
However, either through the engineering of Xel'Naga or some spontaneousness event, an evil spawned in the universe. I'll call it the "Bad Guy" from now on. The Xel'Naga was taken by surprise by the Bad Guy and most of the Xel'Nagas' cities and legacies fell into ruins. In order to preserve themselves, the Xel'Naga moved planets to planets, evading the wrath of the Bad Guy. Upon arriving at one sector, they decided to create the Protoss and the Zerg, equipped with different abilities and intelligence,to stay there hoping that they can develop, flourish, and one day overcome the Bad Guy while the Xel'Naga goes into hiding (or completely disappeared).
This did not go well, unfortunately, as the Bad Guy was not unaware of the Xel'Naga's plan. The Bad Guy sent agents to the sector as well (Duran?) to make P-Z hybrids, making the Xel'Naga's weapon of revenge against themselves.
What the Bad Guy was not aware was Sarah Kerrigan, a human who has great psionic powers, is going to play a major role in their destruction. I can't imagine any further what kind of role she will play, except I am fairly sure Blizzard won't claim humans were also created by the Xel'Naga, because churches will omgwtfpwn them otherwise.

Here we go. I think this is a good way to tell the story because it expands the Starcraft universe considerably. This will allow them to make Starcraft 3 or World of Starcraft. Also, given the recent trends with WC3, it's likely that Blizzard will make the seemingly bad guy (Orc, Zerg) into the good guy by defending against some sort of greater evil (Burning Legion, "Bad Guy"?).
