How would I go about describing this kind of haircut to a barber (not that it's like rocket science but I don't know )
How would you describe this haircut to a barber?

Ok, first.. take the picture. It really is worth a thousand words. To me, the haircut just looks slightly longer on top than the sides. It appears to be cut with a "Scissor over comb" technique. Different from clippers, as it adds more texture and a more natural, lived in look. Key word being texture. How this exact haircut looks on you is VERY dependent on your hair texture and growth patterns. Short haircuts are heavily influenced by growth patterns. Make sure your stylist examines your hair for growth pattern abnormalities (like cowlicks). That all being said. Texture (added in the cut) and proper use of styling product should produce similar results. Also.. don't skimp on the haircut. The people at Great Clips suck. Period. Go to a decent/nice salon. Saving a bit of money for a possibly HORRIBLE haircut is not worth it. And tip your stylist... Let us know how it goes. =)

Only gaming community where you could post this and a hair stylist would answer. So awesome.

Since you and at least one other guy here seems to know things about hair, I have a question. :D Do you find that people who go to get their hair cut actually know the number system thing (like how you said "3 or 4 blade")? Because I've been to barbers that were like "What number do you want for the length?" and my only response is "... idk dude." Maybe its just me thats dumb but I cant imagine too many would really know wtf they're talking about.

Maybe its just me thats dumb but I cant imagine too many would really know wtf they're talking about. i was thinking the same, until one day i had a bright idea -- after getting a haircut of just the right length, i asked "hey so if i want to get this exact cut again, how do i describe it best? like what # and stuff" the barber was very helpful so then some time later i walk in for another haircut, armed with my new knowledge and feeling confident, plopped down in my seat, said ". . . and number x on the sides". Stylist replies "sorry we dont do numbers here" >.<
