Today at Chicago it was one of the warmest days in a while -- hitting 83 F -- as opposed to the 40~ F weather we've been having for a while. The day is also clear (despite being forecasted as thunderstorms, they never happened). I spent most of the day downtown and came back, and when I went out for a moment I noticed how night it was. It reminded me of those warm summer nights. It was also sad that I couldnt just take a walk outside without the fear of getting mugged, but I guess that is the perk of living in a rather shady city.
I do remember some summer nights at Chicago, mostly from when I went to concerts in Millennium Park, but I never really had time to wander around afterwards. Plus -- Chicago is rather deserted at night from what I can tell -- everything closes really early. There's not much to do past lets say, 8 PM other than to go to bars or the oddly opened starbucks or maybe a movie.
It's not really what I would like to imagine warm summer nights to be -- I want to imagine crowded cafes, sitting out underneath a parasol in a restaurant with someone and eating a meal, and perhaps even stargazing afterwards.
Dunno. I kind of want to experience those kinds of warm summer nights to be. Maybe a festival would be nice too. Or a stream. Or something.
Anyone have any nice experiences with summer nights? D:
Shanghai, China is awesome during the evening. It's very warm there, but you don't have the sun beating on you, so it feels nice. The streets are still busy, but not completely packed like it is during the day, and a lot of stores/venders are still open.
I live in the western suburbs right outside of Chicago, holy shit dude was it nice out. I walked around and smoked pot in a neighborhood around here, I would recommend doing the same except driving somewhere else =p. You live on the South Side?
During summer in Melbourne you can experience a nice summer night, it's not always pleasant though in summer as some nights are so humid it's unbearable, but from time to time you'll catch one of those nights where it's a nice warm temp and theres a gentle cool breeze. You're able to take a stroll down in the city or near the beach and there's a lot of people. Cafe's/restaurants are open too. Apparently Melbourne had a really cool summer this year but I was overseas :/
There are a lot of warm summer nights in San Diego. There are a couple of places here that are great during warm summer nights. One is called Mount Soledad, where you basically drive up to the top and can witness one of the most beautiful scenery in the city.
Another place is a beach we have here, but we don't actually go down into the sand. It's located in a very nice place and you can just walk along the road with a soft breeze blowing at you while you can peer down at a bunch of otters on the rocks. Both are pretty romantic but I've never actually been to either on a date; I usually go with friends.
Sometimes I just like to go for a drive as well. Drive from one end of the city to the other, or drive to the bay and just have both windows and my sunroof down. It feels great and is incredibly relaxing.
Other than that, my summers are usually filled with going to 7-11, grabbing a slushie and junkfood and LANing it up with my friends or watching movies with them. I haven't experienced "sitting underneath a parasol in a restaurant." As far as festivals go the closest it gets here are the fireworks during summer. Sea World has lots of fireworks come summer time.
I live near a pretty big city. One of the best nights I've had so far in life was a few years ago during our annual "river festival" in May. It's basically where everyone goes downtown and there's a parade, shops, people everywhere, etc. I went with a girl to see the parade and we just walked around downtown for the rest of the night. I have a huge thing for city lights at night so it was just a pretty amazing experience. Probably not what you're looking for but I think everyone can appreciate those summer nights in different ways
I just love the feeling of being warm and free to do whatever you want. I love being in places where there's people everywhere; perhaps due to the fact that I've grown up in a small suburb outside of the city and there's not really too many people out here. I went to Chicago last summer actually and thought it was pretty amazing, especially cruising around at night.. and some day I hope to move to a really big city.
Haha sounds like you would enjoy the city of Los Angeles and also Taipei >< I totally agree with you though, it's all about the night life. Especially in the summer hehe
