So after some inspiration from one of TL.net’s shining lights, I have decided to compose this blog post..
Where To From Here?
So basically, after viewing close to the cutest picture I’ve seen in a long time.. + Show Spoiler [cute!] +and no I don’t mean the older looking shaved head guy! I got to thinking – holy crap the real world is catching up; where the hell does Starcraft fit in?
To put this all into perspective; I spend a significant time on this website – I love the streams, the tournaments, the discussion and even at times I find the strategy forum bearable! I average around 17 posts a day and live for the kind of Starcraft related stuff that this incredible site produces. Coupled with laddering and other computer games that I enjoy – I find myself wandering, when the real world catches up; where the hell does all this fit in!?
I am nearing the end of my studying at university – that means real job! 9am – 5pm (most likely 7am – 7pm knowing the industry I want to go into) of non-Starcraft related materials for 5 days of the week! This also means exhaustion from working long hours and thereby diminishing my capabilities to enjoy the game we all love! How am I going to watch the GCPL, SGL, GSL, NASL or any of that when I have real world shit to deal with?
The next thing is – I just got engaged; I found the love of my life and we are getting married next January (so epic!) It is incredible! But I got to thinking – with marriage, comes responsibility and eventually children This is awesome – I am really excited, but where on Earth does TL.net and Starcraft fit in between full time job, rent/mortgage, wife, kids, soccer practice, community work and all the other real world shit?
I am 21 years old and the real world is coming up right behind me – so after realizing that there are staff that dedicate countless hours of time and effort to this site while being married/having kids I kind of figured there was a little bit of hope..
So to round it out – if you made it to the end of this post; well done haha but basically, how do you find time to contribute to this community, enjoy the game itself and progress in the real world? When it comes down to it; real world priorities > Starcraft but at this point in time, I don’t feel it has to be one or the other.
I'm hoping to continue this as i make my way through all of the above

this is why i would love a job in esports, sadly though a "normal" corporate job would pay significantly better and be more stable over time >.<

What field are you looking to go into bkrow?
|
bkrow your lr's and contributions to the tournament threads are always awesome, especially for someone like me who usually is still working at the start of a few of the scl tournaments
I think the most important thing is that you recognize the responsibility you're getting in to, so that's a good sign that you can "make it work" -- obviously it'll be hard to roll the time back down from hours of streams to a couple or less a day, BUT if you're responsible, then you can find the happy medium. It's all about the compromise, plus, there's always the weekends? I personally like to dedicate specific night(s) to "catch up" where I won't be stepping on anyone's toes.
Congrats on your engagement too btw

Pretty much being someone's slave while i work my way up.. i imagine that is how things work - it's pretty much a decision between my finance major or my law major.. either way corporate world here i come

Get into entertainment law, and when esports has something like KESPA in the west you can be the agent/lawyer of all the players?

most people can only really dedicate themselves to these internet communities for some years at a time. you recently discovered why.

well I wouldn't blame my wife on my lack of time spent on sc/tl related activities, but real life definitely caught up with me sometime during the past 4 years.

I don't think it's about cutting one out entirely, just find a balance that works. If during these coming months your time is 10% TL, 90% RL, then so be it.
