500 new pokemon since then, with various new moves, 2 additional types, introduction of items and abilities, the physical/special split... yeah, a lot of stuff happened since the good old RB days.
Zapdos was pretty damn good as of the 4th Gen, I don't know how Zapdos stands in the 5th generation, however. So I'm assuming he's still awesome. Excellent, that means I don't have to step in and fuck shit up. You may carry on with your quest for Pokemon website dominance

Haha, sorry, I had no idea how to respond to it since I didn't play Pokemon Platinum. I did finish the Pokedex in my Pearl version though, although it involved trading with people who did glitches in the early DP versions to get darkrai and shaymin. I don't think I had arceus though.

Thanks Milkis for replying so quickly

That's another problem lol, I don't control my home router's settings, it's WPA passworded atm and the regular DS requires WEP :\.
Read somewhere that you can use WPA with DSi? If that's the case I might go get one of those soonish, want to do online stuff with Black and White, couple of friends are hyped to play it

I played the games when I was young, never competitively. I find this (like most other competitive video games) to be quite interesting. I've probably spent a combined 10 hours over the past two years looking at this stuff(smogon/comentated youtube battles/ect). From an outsider prospective, it is significantly easier to navigate, and put together quite nicely. (I don't like the fact that there are a lot of pokemon with no entries, but considering how many there are, its not surprising that there is no strategy for using a pidgeot)
I find it funny that almost every entry talk about how that moveset will counter either Ferrothorn or skarmory. Those two must be the shit.

I ran two variants -- a specially defensive variant, and a Sword Dance Quick Attack version. Bullet Punch apparently made him super awesome though :O Show nested quote +edit: Holy shit you were Tangerine? I remember reading some of your stuff and going ...damn one day... One day what D: i never ran him before plat . one day i'd be awesome and do something productive for my community LOL.

This looks so interesting... I never knew such things existed. I'd love to play those pokémon tournaments.
However, if I did not misread, aren't the tournaments in that site only for Nintendo DS pokémon generations? I have this retro thing with pokémon and will never be using pokémon from further generations than the R/S/E one...

When americans think of koreans they think of starcraft when koreans think of americans they think of pokemon. And by koreans I mean koreans who grew up in Korea. I just find it funny because I was talking with a friend and he was telling me how he thought his roommate was nice but he just found it weird he played pokemon lol. And he was telling me how it seems pokemon is really popular in America. Its funny too because koreans do a lot more things that I would consider more "immature" than pokemon.

Not trying to be offensive at all; just curious...
How much politics can be involved with a Pokemon website (Smogon)? I'm not understanding exactly what you are saying by this, since you are making it seem like it's the Cold War all over again. Do you mean politics within the actual website organizational structure or some outside influential issues (sponsorships, litigation, etc.)?
As a member of many forums, I don't think I've ever encountered this type of politics, even amongst the most relevant forum types (i.e. I'm a member of a few firearms forums). I apologize as you answering this question probably won't ever be fruitful as my Pokemon days are far behind me but I think some others would be curious to know as well.

You know that invite-only SC2 strategy forum that has been suggested multiple times? Think that, and that the only way to be heard at all in the community is to post in there, and the only way to post in there is to be friends with half the mods and enemies with none.

I remember competitive pokemon...it was based around a lot of luck. The only battles that were "fun" were in UU/NU tier

I remember you tangerine!
I like the idea of this site, but some of the current sets are really bad, and having ANYONE up vote or down vote a set seems like a sketchy idea seeing as there are tons of really bad players who made really bad sets really popular.

don't borrow smogon's tier list and you're set imo

Oh god, finally a new pokemon community. Will definitely check this out.

You take such a long time to form a strategy or make a common prediction only to be ruined by a critical hit, that's not very effective in the first place, or the chance of paralysis happening 3 times in a row. Poker is a different story if you play for money, whether it's worthwhile is a matter of opinion.

Weren't you banned on Smogon?

I understand competitive pokemon ^^
But I suck, and I can't make good teams that aren't cookie cutter. I'll check out your site.

Once I get B/W I'll be all over this! but I was never any good, I always liked gimmicky teams or something based around Dunsparce

I'm currently banned on Smogon because I got fed up with the site owner and had a skirmish with him. Basically, the site owner was the only one with root access on the server, except the site owner stopped doing anything for the site about, 3+ years ago. Few of the admins who were doing coding related work got into a lot of bottlenecks with it because they need full access to do certain things (in fact they didn't even have write access into some of the directories related to the site), which meant waiting for the owner every time in order to get things done. Few of the admins got really annoyed with it and mentioned this to the owner and asked for access many times and he would just change the subject and pretend he never heard the request.
So basically I told him to stop being a paranoid idiot and give them root access and I pretty much told him that if he wants to be gone then he should just be gone for good instead of always hovering around claiming that "anything that changes in the site must go through me" and trying to be the final authority on the matter -- an attitude that stressed the staff a lot cause there would be lots of discussions about what happens in the site and you would get to the end of the matter but no one would be able to do it because the owner never made up his mind about it on the issue.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The sets may not be perfect now but as time goes by and more people join and voice their opinion, it will reach efficiency. The site literally opened like 3+ days ago -- we're actually surprised that there are this many sets to begin with.

You can start an RSE tournament if you want. There are quite a number of people like you, actually, and I believe Pokemon Online supports RSE.

Pokemon Online supports all generations, it's very good and well made.
I just don't have the willpower to build teams
